Religious shia young man who attends all the rituals, but is kinda openly gay and styles himself in a way that signals that. Very poor always.
The old man who goes "damn I wish that Saddam is still alive"
Most would be quite positive actually. Communists have an incredible reputation in Iraq as the most educated well-read people in the country. Older communists have the "drunkard" reputation, but younger communists have a good reputation and the most common response is "damn this nerd reads books"
Main dish: grilled iraqi shish kebab with a fuck load of tandoor bread
Side dish: I love those iraqi "muqabillat" plates that have like 6 sections and are filled with random side dishes. You'll find everything there and every place you go to are different
Dessert: the Kurdish areas produce something that Iraqis call "minn al simma". I have no idea what it's called in English, but it's some sort of paste with pistachios in it. Heavenly sweet
I watched all the political shows possible before the 2018 election, because her dad is one of those old newspaper dudes who loves arguing about an obscure Arabist party that died out in 1967 or something. So I remember a much younger me sitting with him one day and I was almost an expert on Muqtada Al Sadr's alliance with the communists and the rebranding of the Supreme Islamic Council to Al Hikma. I kept rambling on about seat totals and possible government formations, after a few mins he looked at me and basically said "how do you know this you Lebanese freak", which confirmed that he respected me.
One traditions that I really respect in the older generations is their borderline obsession with hot tea or more specifically, Iraqi Chai. It's 50 fucking Celsius in the summer, but you'll always find an old dude sitting outside downing "istakans" of blazing hot tea with like a ton of sugar. This tradition is slowly getting carried over to zoomers, because the largest growing chain in Iraq now is Ridha Alwan, an old style coffee and tea house where the menu is an old style newspaper.
Iraq COTW? Let's GO!
Free Iraq AMA for the news mega today. My wife is Iraqi and I've spent more time there than in Syria and Lebanon in the last 5 years. I pretty much know about the situation there more than Syria, I had to impress her dad.
I don't know a single thing about Bangladesh. Is the CIA on team government or team protests here? What about China, Russia?
What a speech by Hassan Nasrallah.
He confirmed that the "support front" in South Lebanon and Northern occupied Palestine is no longer a singular support front, but a front in a wider war in Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and Iran. He also confirmed that the normal pace of operations in the north will accelerate from tomorrow, but also that a direct response to the assassination of Fuad Shukr will be delivered independently and it will be a strong response. He directly threatened Netanyahu and his western backers in the end of the speech. Very energetic and strong speech, that was truly Sayyid Hassan in his prime.
Abdul Malik Al Houthi speaking at 16:00 Jerusalem time, so 4 hours left until the speech. He needs to be quick, because Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah is speaking one hour later, at 17:00 Jerusalem time.
Remember the official news mega rule when it comes to speeches, nothing will happen because no "underdog" will ever announce a war on live TV without the surprise factor. Well of course except Ukraine who made a commercial for their counter offensive. I recommend listening to the Nasrallah speech, fantastic speaker and he shines in these situations.
No political death has ever hit me as hard as the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh did today. What a catastrophe. I have been legitimately feeling paralysed today, could barely eat the whole day. I have much to say about this, but we all need to process this tragedy first. God give us all strength and power, these last two days have been draining emotionally and it will only get worse and worse. As for the man himself, our history when we're victorious will be very kind on him, may Allah grant him the highest ranks of Paradise. They killed his children, his grandchildren and then killed him.
I'd like to leave this here, the Martyr Ismail Haniyeh leading friday prayers in Qatar:
Israel bombed my hometown Beirut. Very strange feeling, because I'm not sad nor angry. The feeling in shia and revolutionary circles is more "thank you Israel", because we want this war. We want to have a direct reason to hit Tel Aviv, we want our troops to burn the occupied Golan, we want our missiles to fill the settlers with fear and panic. Alhamdullilah and may Allah accept the martyrs. My eyes will not be filled with the sight of Beirut for a long time, which really pains my heart, but if our collective sacrifices result in even one hour of pain for the zionists, then it was worth it.

"Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke"
Quran - Surat Al Dukhan - 10
First sleepless night with three weeks old lil Hassan yesterday, stayed up until 6 am with him crying in my lap while I was focusing on nuking America in my Civ 6 game. That mf Roosevelt had better progress on his science victory, so I had to do it.
To keep it news-mega related, lots of movement on the Ukrainian front recently. Russians have crossed the canal into the real parts of Chasov Yar, captured the main part of Krasnogorovka, and they've also initiated a mini-collapse west of Prohres in Avdeevka - Pokrovsk front. Away from the Donbass, they've also broken through the Oskil stalement front that has been dead since September 2022, with a big push beyond the village of Pishchane. Lots of new names for us village name-enjoyers, they're finally moving fast enough for a healthy learning pace. Gone are the days where of being stuck in fucking Opytne, Marinka and Yahidne. I'm personally waiting for a real push on Ugledar, hate that place so much. The Ukrainian strategy on the Avdeevka - Pokrovsk front is completely incomprehensible to me, they keep trying to set up makeshift defences in every village as they keep getting pushed back, which has resulted in full brigades getting chewed up in indefensible locations. Like what's the damn point, the Russians proved in Robotyne and Svatove that a fixed line is way more defensible and saves so many lives, and even Ukraine themselves proved this recently in Kharkov and in Ugledar before that. Instead they're doing this strategy where they're losing both lives and ground, when they could've saved some lives that are desperately needed with the manpower issues.

hopefully in the same way
Nah killing himself in a bunker isn't enough, only through the hands of an orphaned Gazan live on Al Jazeera would be enough to extinguish the fire in our hearts.

I'm on a little comment run here but fuck it.
Gotta say that we on the left have a lot to learn from the sheer impressive power that the DNC have when it comes to consolidation when the serious shit happens. Any issue on the left is debated and derailed by loser energy, while the DNC machine can just snap into overdrive mode where literally every single voice all fall in line when there is a serious lib matter. Remember how hard they consolidated for Biden pre-Super Tuesday in 2020, or how the discussion around Kamala went from "can she do it" to "I'll die for her" in literal hours in the last three days. Yeah of course we don't have the media tools for that, but it just pains me to see how hard the "ackshually" loser energy derails any leftist momentum these days, while libs all deeply know that their candidate is a loser but still delude themselves into actually fully believing.

Honestly just thinking on maxxing out Middle East trips for the dude. He'll grow up in a much healthier family-oriented atmosphere where sharing stuff and caring about other people is normal instead of this individualistic hellhole. Me and my wife both have family here and we're thinking about just doing the good old "it takes a village to raise a child" thing to give him a good non-western upbringing, but it's not enough without some extra pushing these days.

I don't get why people are so shocked about the Satanyahu congress speech circlejerk. This is the face of the West that everyone that pays attention fully knows. The imperialists in the US, Israel, UK, Germany, France, whatever are all one team and have the same donors and come from the same evil ass institutions. Expecting a drop of justice or conscience from these freaks is delusional. Stop paying attention to what Senator David Deportlatinowitz has to say or which congress seat Lisa Loveisraelson is stealing with AIPAC money, this is all worthless. The internal politics of the blob isn't important, the most evil and depraved scenario will happen and expecting anything different will just lead to constant disappointment.
