  • Probably even with dry statistics you can't really compare the two that much. I also wonder how much it is because people don't want to or feel the need to travel outside of the EU/USA, versus them not being able financially. Beside culture and climate the financial means of people within the US and EU differs a lot.

  • Business Insider has a long running series called World Wide Waste, with some very interesting videos. One of them about this woman in Nigeria (!) who started a business recycling tires because her community literally got sick of the tires that where left behind everywhere around her. It really makes me sad rich western countries can make their trash disappear and have people in much worse conditions deal with the consequences. I really enjoy those videos by Business Insider because they shed a light on the people who do the right thing despite of the shit the worlds pulls on them.

  • In The Netherlands you can get an X in your passport if you identify as non-binary / 3rd gender person. Nobody knows how border security will treat you if you don't have an F or M in your passport, guess aren't many people willing to go find out either. Really wonder how this is gonna go in the following years when US hosts important diplomatic/technological/sports events. Also some scientists are calling out to boycott scientific conventions in support of lgbtqi+ persons.

  • Endorsing is a strong word, but it is crazy there isn't basically any leader of instute in Europe calling for Israel to stop killing civilians. Also barely anyone speaking up against US 'plans' for Gaza after ceasefire. Israel does things very similar to Russia, but officials don't call Netanyahu out when he talks about ethic cleansing. It's sad.

  • The link and title of the webpage talk about water quality, but further down they argue only about the safety of water: "According to the DALY scale, a score of 100 indicates countries with the purest and least-contaminated water", but to be honest I rather drink slightly unsafe water that tastes natural over supersafe water that taste like thinned bleach lol

  • "On Sunday, the Gaza Health Ministry said the death toll from Israel's 535-day assault on Gaza surpassed 50,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. ...

The ministry said that more than 113,000 others have been wounded since October 2023, and at least 14,000 more Palestinians are missing and presumed dead and buried beneath the rubble of hundreds of thousands of bombed-out buildings.

However, experts—including the authors of two peer-reviewed articles in the prestigious British medical journal The Lancet—say the actual death toll is likely much higher."

Where is the international community? United Nations? They need to be stopped.
