  • This is temporary as the world adjusts to omit the US. It takes time to reorient your economy away from a consumer economy, and the US. I expect it will happen faster than many expect, as the US will no longer be a desirable supplier or consumer of your goods.

    They are isolating themselves.

  • No choices left now. After decades of watching Americans jerk off to "Democracy", "Free market" and the "End of History" hubris only to watch them run and jump off a cliff willingly into full blown fascism, I'm hoping for once they shut the fuck up and find some way to fix their shit.

  • It's the neoliberal fever dream that unregulated market mechanisms can build a better world. It's the socioeconomic theory that unfettered psychopathy is a guiding light, and the high priests of this religion pray the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train. (Or that they died wealthy of old age before things ever got too bad for them.)

  • Ah yes, my comment clearly indicated Starlink was the sole cause an no additional satelites in various orbits will ever be needed, desired or will ever be launched by any other country because we are done and have all we need, forever.

You are clearly very smart. I am so happy you are here to protect us from saying something stupid. That would be embarassing.

  • I'm not keen on a society dominated by resource exhaustion, grossly exceeded planetary boundaries leading to ecological overshoot and collapse and billions of early deaths due to climate change, pollution and conflict as everyone fights for whatever is left.

An againg society is a necessary step towards a sustainable population. Anything other than a sustainable population (number of people x consumption amount) will, by definition, not be sustained. A collapse will be chaotic and devastating. A managed descent of degrowth will have difficulties but could save humanity and the biosphere as we know it.
