Then imagine how bad Americans must be.
Amsterdam is a massive destination for people from the UK. Not so much people from the USA.
Nah what? Are you kidding? The culture is absolutely as I said.
Is this sub full of salty Americans or something?
There is a clear and obvious difference between American drinking culture and UK drinking culture that ANYONE that has lived in both countries can clearly see. I mean it's super obvious in the first month or so.
And obviously it has to be anecdotal, this isn't a study lmao. Feel free to check other anecdotes online however and they will confirm what I say.
It's a famous image because it encapsulates UK binge drinking culture so well.
The man on the floor with the implication that he fell but saved his beer. The man getting arrested. The woman bitching at police to stop. The people in the background not giving a shit because it's an average Saturday night.
I think the photo even won awards haha
Firstly, it's not a city, it's a town.
Secondly, definition of fortress:
"1) A fortified place, especially a large, permanent military stronghold that often includes a town.
- A fortified town or position; a fort; a castle; a stronghold; hence, any place of defense or security"
It literally comes from the word fortification, which means making something more defendable using walls, fortifying it etc. What did people need to fortify? Towns.
MSM? No idea what that is. If it's what is shown in the image, it's not "ugly" and nobody ever said it was, it's just underwhelming. The USA doesn't have a long history compared to countries in Europe, and they didn't have to defend against invaders and therefore never fortified their towns and cities. As a result, there's no impressive fortresses in the USA.
Are you from the USA?
Did you only visit London?
Don't you know the point of this sub?
They already blew up my car! What else can they do?
Ehhh as a Scot I disagree. Have you travelled Europe? I have. And I'd love to do it again. The UK is quite nice to live in, but it has many flaws and definitely isn't the best. Suck it Brit.
Americans more often get obnoxious and angry when they are drunk, Brits usually get funny and silly. I've lived in both (USA for 2 years, visited New York, Miami, etc). Granted people from each country can be chill or assholes, but drinking culture is much different. In the UK, drinking until you puke is looked down upon, the aim is to get as drunk as possible without puking. In the USA, people brag about drinking till they puke.
I'd say that Britain is the Japan of Europe, when it comes to binge drinking culture. If you're curious:

Excluding the UK, they refuse to speak other languages and will tell you proudly that they can't speak another language. They won't even attempt to say they speak it well.
Yeah, people are aware, we have all heard of it. That's what makes this joke funny, it's a misdirection.
I don't think that our prime minister, Ricky Sushi, is a TERF, because that would require him to be a feminist.
But honestly he's from the right wing party, what do you expect? If I judged all Americans based off what the GOP does or says, America would be 100x worse.
So as a Scot, fuck your nonsense
Agreed, it's incredible and perfectly encapsulates UK night-out culture
Glad you liked it haha
This is genius.
Especially because italics indicates a change in how the words are spoken
And mama mia Italians are the gods of doing that.
Can we add flairs or is that not a thing on Lemmy?
What makes the 2x4u subs work is that people's flairs tell you where they're from so banter is possible.
