  • Do you know if any of your admins are active on Reddit?

    I don't, but I can try tagging the two I know of: @aasatru @jwr1
Sadly I don't think Mbin currently shows a list of admins anywhere, so not sure if that's everyone.

  • If you believe this was a mistake, please contact the moderators of the community.

    Did you do that?

I don't really agree with that removal reason if it's real, but I do think your post was clearly trolling and bad faith arguing and so it's a good thing it was removed. That said, the rules also don't currently prohibit that.

  • have been automatically deleted in the past

I really doubt this is correct. Looking at the domain page for lemmy.world, the earliest post is from a few days before the API protest, and there's been posts every month since. I don't see a hole anywhere.
The posts starting just before the protests (when Lemmy is older) could mean they were removed prior to that, but it seems weird to me that Reddit would change their policy on that just when people want to boycott them.
Either way, if they were removed before the protest, that's a long time ago and not relevant to today.

  • Does Mbin or Piefed have the same issues? I know you guys prefer Lemmy, but if Lemmy keeps alienating people because signups don't work, then maybe it's time to recommend one of those two instead of bleeding potential newcomers.

  • one of my memes just got removed for being "nsfw", and it was just a dildo gag.

What's the problem here? A dildo is nsfw, so this makes sense. Also that thing in the clip looks too much like a real dick anyway. You couldn't have found a better one?

  • Reddit mods aren't a monolith. There's good and bad ones. And we already have both kinds here too, I have seen bad mods on Lemmy. So I don't see the issue with Reddit mods coming here. It's actually a good idea, since they have prior modding experience.

  • Why would it get deleted? Does /r/50501 have a history on that like /r/technology does? I don't really expect the mods of an anti-Trump protest sub to be sucking Spez's dick. And Reddit doesn't remove Lemmy mentions itself, it's all the doing of overzealous mods.

  • Sounds like a torrent

Because it is torrenting. I clicked on the "More information" link in the popup and:

PeerTube uses the BitTorrent protocol to share bandwidth between users by default to help lower the load on the server. The main threat to your privacy induced by BitTorrent lies in your IP address being stored in the instance's BitTorrent tracker as long as you download or watch the video.

    Source

No idea about copyright though, but I also don't quite understand the issue there that doesn't apply to ActivityPub itself too.

  • Well, it's different meanings of "posting to your profile". I get it you're using the technical/backend/AP meaning of the post being posted to the user's account and then the community just announces it iirc. At least that's how it works on Lemmy, never looked into how Mbin does this exactly, iirc there's differences to how Lemmy and Mbin communities look from Mastodon.

But in this thread's context, it means that you make a post, and it's only visible on your profile, nowhere else. Not in any magazine. New Reddit has this feature, where you can choose to make a post to /u/username instead of any specific subreddit, and then the post is only visible on your user page.

It's unclear what exact meaning the person I replied to meant, but it's definitely not the technical one, considering their wording. So with "Mbin doesn't actually support posting things to your profile yet" I meant it in the context established by OP.

  • Mbin doesn't actually support posting things to your profile yet. Microblog posts still need to be posted to a particular community. They do plan to stop with that eventually and allow you to post outside of communities (recently mentioned on their Matrix), but that's not a thing yet.

  • Reddit didn't remove it, the moderators did. On Shreddit, there's a note:

Sorry, this post has been removed by the moderators of r/YouShouldKnow.

It's still available on your profile, I can still see it there. So clearly Reddit didn't do shit.

Edit: While I'm looking at shreddit, looking at the rules in the sidebar, I think it was removed due to rule 3:

YSKs regarding Reddit, Facebook, Twitter or any other social media are NOT ALLOWED.

You should always look at a community's rules first before posting, imo this removal is justified.

  • They are changing this as part of getting rid of PMs:

    • Old Reddit will receive small UI updates to allow users to access all information previously provided via PMs
    • New button to access the notifications inbox, which will badge if notifications are received
    • Chat button will badge if new chats are received
    • The PM UI on Old Reddit will be discontinued within the same timeframe from other platforms once the migration has been completed.
