  • This is working too. The marching orders are in and conservative sites are saying there is proof that Obama was trying to form a coup and stop Trumps election.

It is amazing how fast this narrative has stuck and become the new discussion.

  • Wow. You missed my points, and called me a scab for no reason.

You FOR spreading TIKTOK bullshit? Or can you see that it is a sad day to have to work for that company?

Maybe you should look a little deeper and not be such a prick.

  • Wait, it has a quick blurb on by default but actually interacting with it requires an opt in. That seems like a good balance.

In fact doing a search now (duck is my default) it doesn't even offer an ai answer unless I click it first.

  • I use a system to remember passwords, it works quite well and they all are unique.

But your comment reminds me of my latest annoyance: email addresses. It isn't enough to use different passwords for every account, I now am using different emails for every account. Because companies should be encrypting my password AND my email address. Basically once a breach occurs that email is now garbage because it is a target.

So now password managers are a requirement because I want something more obtuse than email+website@mydomain. rotating domain names, rotating emails, its all a pain in the ass.

  • Well we could say that anything wet is water. But we know that isnt true. This is similar. The definition, even to a layman, of what herbaceous means is not that much of a stretch compared to a notion of a tree.

The point being is we could call them all plants. But we like to break things into categories, and in the case our science has categorized a banana as an herb. Definitively as far as I can tell, and when they are observed you can see why.

  • You seem to be making two points here:

    1. That people colloquially call it a tree, so don't "correct" it. We know what they are talking about.

    That seems fair enough.

But then you seem to say that:

    1. There is no definition of what a tree or herb is so you can't separate the two. The term is used to describe non woody growth that dies back (among other things). How can you say the word herbaceous is not a testable definition?

I don't think it is pedantic at all. I have a banana patch, and I certainly consider them bushes instead of trees. I think people are interested in finding out the trivia that a banana tree is not a tree, but an herb.

  • It amazes me people use this crap. I guess people just don't give a fuck about their life.

Yes I know it is extraordinarily popular in many places of the world. Mine included. The hardest part isnt friends, it is businesses.

Friends/family have been easy enough: we are going to use signal for example. They go ok, whatever. But business got complacent. We always work it out in the end anyways. Or I wont give them my business.

  • I liked the internet better when there wasn't a business model.

Even this stupid article wants to sell me something.

I am still hosting websites, for free, with no ads. These are few and far between. All this technology and it only has gotten worse while hosting has only gotten easier.

  • The rude part is judging people.

Not wanting to engage in small talk or banter in a situation that they would not be in unless they were paid is completely understandable. Everyone is different. Nothing on that list is rude. And you are validating why people do the things they do. Because some asshole is going to call you rude.

  • Postgres is cursed for only allowing 65535 parameters in a single query?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that is a fairly large number (I think Microsoft SQL is limited to 2000 or something like that) AND this seems like a terrible design pattern.

  • W.XP

    Jump
  • Left because of XP. Win 2000 was fine. XP started all of the crap. It was when you needed to have a corporate key to actually control the computer and have all the features that win 2000 did. The colors were awful and the design was piss poor of course, but I could have dealt with that.

This was when Microsoft began introducing online accounts. They started trying to really wedge explorer into everything. You could buy music online with them, but ONLY with explorer. There were three programs that were forced on everyone (I forget what they are now). People didn't like it so they gave people a "remover", and was supposed to remove those programs. Except they lied, and all it did was hid the icons.

The writing was on the wall. Win XP was when MS jumped the shark and began the decline. I could see it in real time and wanted nothing more to do with them. So Linux it was.
