  • Taiwan has been independent from the mainland since 1949. That's 74 years. Were people in the US in 1850 ethnically British? Largely yes, and that's with the US recieving massive migration from other countries, which Taiwan has not had.

    The Taiwanese people speak Chinese, practice Chinese cultural traditions, call themselves the Republic of China many even to this day support reconciliation.

  • It's rampant in certain ML communities. A lot of people are so caught up in their reasonable opposition to the US, it's foreign policy and the military industrial complex that they start to see any US enemy in a positive light, despite many of those enemies being significantly worse.

  • It seems unlikely that the people of Donbass do want to be a part of Russia now that they've had a taste of occupation.

    Being conscripted, given third rate equipment or no equipment at all and being send to die is not generally an endearing act.

  • You have trillions of dollars worth of military equipment from the cold war mothballed or in storage.
    Most of it will never see use because it's outdated technology. There are thousands of planes, tanks and miscellaneous vehicles just sitting out in the desert waiting to be scrapped or reactivated.

  • Generations are generally ~20 years. It's been 3-4 generations since the first nuclear power plant, and less since the first commercial one. It'll certainly be at least one more before commercial fusion even being optimistic
