  • If you like the lore but watching it makes you want to stab your eyes out, look into the Target novelisations. They are mostly faithful to what was on the TV, and you get to use your imagination instead of BBC's production values. They were usually written by the same person who wrote the script. I actually prefer the novels for several stories and was really, really disappointed when I finally had a chance to see them. A big bonus is the Target books are pretty cheap and easy to find used.

  • It's definitely something that you have to grow up with. I was lucky to have an uncle who was obsessed with The Fourth Doctor when I was a child, and my love of the show comes from that. I wish some of the older stuff could be redone: it's unwatchable for many because it was made for an audience who had tiny black and white TVs and a great deal more patience.

  • Yes! Totally. Exact same energy. Must be a predator thing, and why I love cats and owls so much. That kind of vigilance definitely speaks to me: "Shall I kill you? No. Not now. I shall conserve my energy until I must kill."

  • He looks sleepy, but it is probably just how his face is... kind of like I'm not bitchy, that's just how my face is. But he looks so snuggly and stuff. I think the kids today are calling it... eepy?

  • I get it: I have been called a "Debbie Downer" for spitting facts and trivia after a joke... I'm sorry, I thought it was interesting, sorry they didn't. I think some people just have a different relationship with learning and knowledge. They seem to find it a negative grind, and that sucks. At least to me.

I am always delighted to get both a laugh and some knowledge. I remember when you first discussed owls' eating habits and water consumption, but getting a refresher is great. I don't understand people who get mad about reposts, unless they are hideously egregious. Furthermore, there are always new people, like you say, who haven't had the pleasure of learning about it the first time.

Keep up the great work, anon! It is always a pleasure when you come across my feed. I hope to contribute more to the community as I can. It is really hard to get out of the habit of lurking.

  • We cannot eliminate it: we can only learn how to best live with it. Completely denying the primate part of ourselves only makes it more likely to lash out in ways we don't want it to, and it can be kind and loving and good if properly cared for. I completely get where you are coming from, and for a long time I tried to deny the primal part of myself, but I just got sick.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if we want to live with conflict, lust, and overcoming terrible odds, trying to eliminate the primate within us isn't going to accomplish that.

  • Just like the primate you are, always jumping the gun!

But, yes, so much in the world today can be understood as our technological ability outstripping evolution. Our brains will look at a picture and feel the same feeling as if it was actually there. It is actually kind of amazing there isn't more insanity around when you think about it.

  • That's a really good Sam Jack! It's like you figured out the magic spell that makes him and can do it on command. This one does seem to have more of the energy of the work I saw you do before SJ, so I think that is what you mean by stylized? It's still a faithful rendition of the original, but it has more of its own personality. His shirt is where I see it the most. Thanks for posting; I hope people with actual artistic skill can give you actual feedback.
