Yeah, don't really envy them, but to say that they never tried to grow the site is pretty obviously false. There was a lot of trying to grow the community back in the day (was one of the biggest arguments for federation with the rest of the lemmyverse as well) and more recently in trying to grow the community in certain directions.
The biggest drama was when we were hosted as a lifeboat for vegancirclejerk. Looking back at those dramawaves makes the most recent ones seem pedestrian.
I specifically remember the mods and admins straight up inviting entire
communities separate from the r/CTH diaspora early on in order to grow the site leading to a lot of drama. The recent bouts of struggle sessions of admins attemting to clamp down on the chauvinism which is apparently keeping people away could be construed as not attempting to grow the site but to change the userbase I guess.
Getting a new manager in who, while we were talking about how property owners post bullshit numbers to greenwash and that it will likely blow up in their faces, hit us with the ‘plants need CO2 so we can’t just remove it all, if anything we need more’. We were all in awe of the power of yer da thought at display.
On his end, the argument was that Putin is a maniac and that nato should not appease him in his crusade to restore the Soviet Union.
Debate is a lot less effective than you'd think. Poke holes in their arguments and get them to look things up on their own time, you're not going to be able to convince someone who is just ranting at you.
Good thing that Biden did so much to curtail them so they didn’t start demolishing the entirety of the Gaza Strip with bombs the US provided before Trump emboldens them.
Some people get off on the drama of it, like this writer seems to. The husband, if we are to judge by the story, is used to her throwing a tantrum and then cooling off, which will likely be the case here again. His entire demeanour which she describes throughout the text is just waiting for her to calm down like she is a sulking child, which she sees as deep empathy. The only concession he made was not forcing her to go to the Christmas celebration (for now), bringing her a cup of coffee and saying sorry (while not doing the actual thing she asked).
My point is that he doesn't have any serious belief in anything that you're describing, just that he is incredibly racist. They also tend to hate jews, only slightly less than muslims.
Trying to see it through scripture at all is already giving him too much credit.
He has a Kingdom of Jerusalem tattoo and a load of crusader stuff on him though, which is a different flavour to the other evangelicals at least in my experience. But maybe that is just outside of the US.
The crossover between crusade guys and zionists is kind of interesting in a way. You'd think they would aim to make it a christian state again, but maybe that is stage 2 of the plan.
These dorks aren't the ones running stuff, they are just there to look like fools while keeping the charade going. They'll be rewarded with some cushy consultant jobs for the rest of their careers.
I do kind of enjoy the overlap between dem spokesman and UK policeman talking patterns though.
They parading around the apparently massive support that Trump has among Muslims as opposed to Jews when they are very similar numbers (both in the low 20% range), the difference being that Muslims have consistently been told to fuck off and that Arabs deserve to die so they didn't vote Democrat either. The argument then being that of course the democrats are going to listen to Jews and Black voters as they voted for them to the highest degree.
The argument that overwhelmingly voting for democrats would get their voices heard is contradicted by the clear evidence of supporting a genocide that is incredibly unpopular amongst the demographic after they voted 86% for Biden. This was a repudiation of Trump policies that Biden immediately ratified once he entered office. Even if you follow your wonk hat bullshit, what amount of muslims would have to vote for the dems in order to not have their extended families butchered for the glory of greater Israel? 150%?
