Hmmph. It's why I gave up on the horror and fantasy genre long ago. Nowadays no one can think of a plot that doesn't involve the hero/heroine shooting their way out of trouble using suddenly-found guns. I wish there could be a movie where there's a dilemma that gun violence doesn't solve and in fact, where guns are not even in the picture (like "Alien," For example - no guns, some cobbled-together weapons which proved useless. Or the movie "Cube," no guns needed to provide a suspenseful plot).
I tend to agree. It's part of the reason that I really enjoy the mystery genre. Good ones have suspense and clever problem solving and don't rely on weapons.
(I'm also resisting the urge to bring up Star Trek again in a non-Trek thread)
I like mysteries also, I loved "Glass Onion." There was gun violence in it but it wasn't as a means to a solution. I just think it takes more brain power to come up with a situation where characters are in great danger and actually have to use their own minds to figure out a way out. Instead of just shooting at everything, like in recent movies about dinosaurs and time travel. Surely there must be a cleverer way to deliver the main characters out of danger.
Definitely. I actually had Knives Out and Glass Onion in mind.
Both good movies - I liked Glass Onion a smidge better. I hope they'll continue to make those movies.
