In contrast to other countries occupied by the [Fascists], a local puppet regime of collaboration was not installed in Poland. A Polish government-in-exile, pro-West and anti-Nazi, was established in London, and a Polish underground initiated operations against the Germans in occupied Poland. The exception in this context was the Polish police, which was reconstituted by the Germans in the autumn of 1939, immediately after the conquest of the country.
