Even for Nintendo it's a weird decision, though. Will even Nintendo fans want to pay $10 for a digital tutorial?
We live in a weird world now, things making sense is long in the past.
The sad thing is yeah, I do think people will buy it, everytime a gaming company does something stupid like this I used to think "nah people won't buy it" and then everyone buys it, so yeah, they will earn a bit of money from this and then they all will do it.

You can spend about the same amount for a Steam Deck, and you can play Aperture Desk Job for free. Speaks volumes how Nintendo views their fans.
You can play way more than just Aperture Desk Job for free, a lot of games on Steam these days are Free, and I'm not talking about free to play. I'm not sure but I don't remember there being any full free games on the eshop, F2P yes but developers there never opted to make their games just free. Some devs on Steam absolutely have.
Absolutely. I was just pointing out that the tutorial game is free, in contrast to Nintendo.
The competition of piracy keeps PC game prices more reasonable. I know Nintendo games get pirated as well, but not nearly on the level of PC games.
Beauty of actual competition, I have around 100 games I got from epic games store for free. Beauty of open systems, I can play 99% of them on my deck.
And for that reason and just the amount of care and work that the team put into it, I think it was decided that, 'Yeah, this feels like $9.99 is not an exorbitant price. It feels like a good value for what you're getting out of the product

Nothing out of the ordinary for Nintendo, unfortunately. Even the blockbuster Wii Sports was an aberration that they had to be convinced about.
[Reggie] Fils-Aimé pushed for [Wii Sports to be bundled free with the Wii], and initially company President Satoru Iwata turned the proposal down: "Nintendo does not give away precious content for free."
This game doesn't even seem like it will have the same replay value of Wii sports. I don't know who would want to open this game just to re read some descriptions of features.
Lol paying for a demo disc and you don't even get a magazine or a pizza along with it
It's a big gamble on the demand of customers. If it pays off, Nintendo will reap enormous profits. If it doesn't, they can always walk back on it and will probably be celebrated for it. They can't really loose here.
Needless to say, I won't touch Nintendo products with a stick. It's a ridiculously greedy and aggressive company.
The best way to touch Nintendo products is with a soldering iron - to install a modchip.

The Wii U had Nintendo Land, which was the 5th top selling game for the console.
The Switch had 1 2 Switch, which was the 40th top selling game for the console. 40th might sound low, but that's about the same as Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, Pikmin 4 or Paper Mario Origami King.
Now this "game" looks to be terrible so far, but that can always throw it as a pack in after a year or two and suddenly the total sales bump right up. No downside.
Yeah, I figured 12 switch must have sold well enough that they know they'll make the money. Honestly I think it sold because there were no other launch titles and people were starved for games.
Theyve set things up the same way again (literally only Mario Kart on release), but the marketing on the game and market in general aren't as good.
They know that loyal fans will buy it. They will also buy Switch 2 day-one and Switch 2 OLED after 2 years. They do not care for the average costumer and user really.
Nintendo wouldn't give something away for free to save a life.
In 2006 they bundled Wii Sports with the Wii, which seemed to benefit them considering the Wii's success. Though, the Switch 1 had a the demo "1, 2, Switch" for 60 USD and sold better than the Wii, though culturally, more people probably know about Wii Sports compared to 1, 2, Switch.
And Reggie had to fight hard to get them to do it.

With every piece of news it feels like Nintendo are back on the WiiU/GameCube part of the cycle.

Switch 2 Backward Compatibility Fees: Charging €10–20 to play old games on new hardware (with minor upgrades) is a consumer-hostile move. The €10 demo is purely a joke.
True, but it was already established as precedent by Sony and Microsoft. Paying for a tutorial isn't, though!
Well the more mainstream gaming got, the more idiots are buying games and stuff, the more gaming companies exploit us. I did not know about that for Sony and Microsoft. I knew other shitty things they did, but as i only play on PC and having a Switch (only console after PS1), i miss some details about how really bad gaming exploit has gotten.
