NZ Lemmy Communities

Not all NZ content is on this instance, so I thought it would be helpful to create a list of NZ focused communities (with some level of filtering) to help people find what they are looking for.

Links are handled a bit weird at the moment in Lemmy. These communities will be linked to the Lemmy.nz page for the community, to make it easier for our users to subscribe. If you’re on another instance, the page will give you a community address to copy to the search bar of your instance, e.g. “!support@lemmy.nz”. Copy this to the search form, click search, and wait 5-10 seconds for it to show up (quicker if someone else has searched before you).

Communities marked as (new) may not have much content yet.

  • Thanks! I'm on kbin and we have one (kbin.social/m/NewZealand) but no one is posting there yet.

    • Until we have a reasonable way of joining things together, I'd like to avoid duplicates. There are at least 5 other !newzealand communities on other instances, and I just don't think it's helpful to list them since none of them have posts from anyone other than the person who set them up.

If a community starts to gain some traction, we can add them to the list, but until then it probably makes sense to point people to the one that others are using.

There have been proposals to implement some way of showing the communities in a joint feed, if that gets implemented one day then that will make things easier.

      • I have to agree, even though one of them is on my instance. lemmy.nz has the current traction for a New Zealand community, the next nearest is the one on lemmy.ml and that one had fallen quiet / died.

      • I just don't think it's helpful to list them

Sure, just to clarify, I wasn't trying to suggest you list it.

Just mentioning that we have one but no one is using it so it's nice to know about the lemmy ones.

For some reason it won't let me comment over on lemmy yet, when I follow your links, it says I have to login or register so I must be doing something wrong.
