I'll probably get some downvotes here for my criticism of the video, but anyway...
I understand that she can't or doesn't want to try out all the products, but in my opinion, she should then simply leave those products out.
Why does she review GOG when she only looks at the website and compares the price of one game with Steam? At least she mentions that GOG is DRM-free.
In her Linux Mint review, she only explains why she doesn't try it ("sustainability") and looks at the website. Then she says that Linux Mint offers many Big Tech tools and that "they should work on that." This shows a fundamental misunderstanding on her part of what an operating system is. One of her reasons against Mint is that she relies on a glitch-free workflow. Which also shows her bias against Linux.
Likewise with her OpenStreetMap review. She goes to the website, looks at the map, enters a few routes, and then explains why she's sticking with Google Maps. She either doesn't know or at least doesn't mention that the actual goal of OSM is to make map data freely available so that others can work with it. She doesn't say that there are some user-friendly apps that use OSM data.
I could go into many more reviews from the video, but then my comment will just be too long.
What I also don't like about the video is that she tries to find all products good, even though you can tell that she doesn't like some of them. I would find honest opinions much more authentic. You don't have to like everything just because it's European.
And the title of the video is simply a lie.
You forget that it's all surface level performative. When looked at in that light the poor quality video makes a lot more sense 😜.
Thanks for the review of it!
This comment should probably be left on their video as feedback. Not here.
Why not? It's good to put things into context a little bit, we shouldn't just post whatever poor quality stuff and leave it uncommented just because it's "pro EU"
Dailymotion doesn't seem to have a comment function and I don't have an account to comment on YouTube. But feel free to quote my comment there.
I wish she brought up the alternative mobile operating systems:
Props on the video for mentioning Lemmy, Element, Openstreetmap and Linux.
Can Linux still be considered an EU project, though?
Depends on which distro you use. Zorin, Mint and OpenSUSE are developed by European companies, if that matters. Of those, only Zorin is (optionally) paid.
Its important to know that ultimately software is complex, and often its a concentrated effort between people of different countries. Especially the colossal project that is Linux.
In any case, the main thing with Linux is you stop giving Microsoft money, either by not buying licences or not giving them data to feed their AI. By using European distros, you can contribute either through bug reporting, donations, or just by giving them a reason to continue existing. Some distros have full time employees working on them also, so its a nice and cheap (or free) way to contribute to the EU economy.
I, for one, would love if either started using SUSE as their enterprise software of choice. Its the one I use and it's amazing. I'm very happy with OpenSUSE as a distro.
Is all open project, and it isn't paid. The origin no longer matters (to me). Is probably best described as a global project.
Dailymotion is a french site, good to know!
Without sound the video wasn't very interesting (no subtitles) but the description mentions lemmy so that's fun. :)
IIRC, Dailymotion has ownership ties to Vincent Bolloré, a French billionaire who supports the far-right. Perhaps the better option would be PeerTube, for video hosting, which is also French. We don't need our own Broligarchs to gain more traction.
Dailymotion is indeed a french site, but it's also owned by far-right billionaires (the Bolloré familly) currently doing their best tipping the country into fascism. Peertube is Also french by the way!
There's a segment for Lemmy starting around 9:30.
