Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem - Lemmy.World

lemmy.world Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem - Lemmy.World

I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy’s massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml [http://lemmy.ml]. It’s been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let’s say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, t...

Everything I hate is now tankie. We must stop this by getting them to censor what we think is tankie

  • I looked up the OP in the modlog and saw:

Nice to see our mods aren't the only ones with a sense of humor

  • Holy shit the lack of self awareness.

LemmyWorld did this EXACT thing to absolutely everyone posting a view left of the US State Dept. It's what got Hexbear defederated, it's what got me banned despite the fact I broke NO rules besides supporting Lenin/USSR and posting about those things.

They are ridiculous. They do this exact thing to everyone to their left and then they can't fucking take it if anyone else does it to them. Even when in this case it's just literally cracking down on the mindless misinformation and bullshit libs peddle about this event.

When they unban lenins2ndcat so I can go back to the massive amount of effective posting I was doing on their instance then they can start whining about censorship elsewhere. They do it themselves if a communist is effective enough to get upvotes there. There were a dozen subreddits ready to migrate too and they killed that shit stonedead and put the brakes on the entire movement to swap from reddit to lemmy with their bullshit. Literally everyone saw what lemmyworld was doing and said nahhhh fuck that in the backrooms at the peak of everyone being motivated to move.

  • They're used to being able to silence anyone to their left. Turns out they can't take what they were dishing out.

  • People are naive if they think the .ml admins and devs don’t intend to keep their thumb on the Lemmy scale. More instances need to take this threat seriously and defederate from .ml, and possibly even fork the Lemmy repos for when the devs inevitably decide they want to start building quiet exploits into the code. There are serious cyber security implications here that people are sleeping on

    Honestly unhinged.

That’s the most frustrating part. These “leftists” are the stupid kind who seem to care more about relitigating idiotic cold war drama than evolving or pushing forward leftist philosophy. It’s straight up brain rot, mixed with obvious right wing agitprop disguised as leftist ideology.

What cold war drama? What right wing agitprop?

A hexbear in that thread is literally claiming that “the soldiers did everything they could to avoid hurting him” when there’s a photo of him lying dead on the street after the tanks have gone through. They don’t think it’s fine, they’re saying it didn’t happen (curious) [47]

Doesn't post the proof, unfortunately. Fortunately, a bunch of other people are correcting them.

The threat is bigger than that though. These people control the code base and can easily just start running modified code to fuck with various aspects of federation to generally keep their finger on the scale of any instance which federates with them. At best they have shown they have no shame and cannot be trusted. If there is any means of abusing their power, it must be assumed that they will embrace it.

Again literally no evidence that .ml has abused the federation algorithm or whatever.

    • Also it's open source so if you want to see what's in the code base just go fuckin look?

And if you don't know how to read the code then shut the fuck up?

      Libs are deeply unserious

      • Yup, it would be so easy to show if something malicious was in the code. But for all the fear mongering they do, I haven't seen anyone show even a snippet of code.

      • He wanted to sound smart while knowing nothing about coding, open source and cybersecurity.

    • At best they have shown they have no shame and cannot be trusted. If there is any means of abusing their power, it must be assumed that they will embrace it.

Love it when they start feeling themselves and just end up talking like a Netflix show character.

      Like what does this mean

      • we have no shame (true) and that means we're untrustworthy for some reason

also commies powerhungry and that's why...checks notes...we constantly fight for the powerless instead of selling out to a capitalist?

we really need to study these tadpoles

  • This is so obviously just going the same way as the British labour parties own purge of the tankies. Like they started with Corbyn and stuff and now they're kicking people out for liking a single tweet by Jon Stewart.

  • They incuded my satirical comment in the modlog screenshot.

Also that comment got 20 upvotes, so I'm not entirely sure the lemmitors realised it was a joke.

    • they even staged non-violent interactions

lmao, that's pretty good. probably there is some fash out there thinking the event was a 12 day sidewalk-to-sidewalk street brawl, therefor any pic of people just standing around not yelling or bleeding is inauthentic.

  • i posted a decently sourced comment in the thread and had 16 downvotes from cowards too scared to comment

is this the tankie censorship that the libs constantly whine about?

i am very glad we got rid of that shit on

  • The anti communist orthodoxy strikes again. If we let libs do whatever they want, it’s because we’re weak and cannot stand against their “ideological superiority”. If we engage with them and promptly ban them when they’re racist, it’s because we’re authoritarian and love censorship.

  • Literally only worldnews is properly moderated out of major communities on .ml, communities like memes are full of turbolibs. The cause of this malding is that they went way too fucking far even for usually hands off Dessalines in their latest Tiananmen post on memes and he removed some more orientalist posts and closed the thread.

EDIT: Lmao and they are at it again.

  • I wonder if Lemmy.world's Red Scare will result in more leftists leaving .world, and more Liberals from Reddit replacing them, creating a schism between Lemmy.world and related instances, and Grad/Hexbear/.ml. a sort of Multipolar Lemmy.
