Spotify quietly moves lyrics behind a paywall
Spotify didn't offer any more detail about why it's now paywalling lyrics, but clearly, it's a bid to push more people to its paid tier.
Same energy as YouTube putting background play behind a paywall.
Simply anti-consumer.

No-one on this thread has used the word "enshittification" yet, so first, I guess.

11 0 ReplyThey started this move almost a year ago. It has broken lyrics on many songs even if you pay for premium service.
8 0 ReplyMost of the time there is no lyrics ,or it is simply broken
8 0 ReplyYeah who tf even looks at lyrics while on Spotify anyways

I moved to Tidal after watching this video about a month ago, haven't looked back, can still use Spotify ad free when it comes to podcasts, win win!
7 0 ReplyI don't have 45 mins to waste - tl;dw: for the video?
5 0 ReplyWell it's certainly not a waste, Some More News is top notch YouTube, funny and well researched. I almost guarantee you'll enjoy it (put it on 1.5x speed or so).
But I guess the deciding point for me is that Tidal pays the artist around 5x more than Spotify - tidal pays the most of any streaming service. But the video goes into detail about how Spotify is owned by the record companies, why Taylor Swift fought against Apple Music, how Apple Music tried to screw musicians out of streaming revenue, it's all a mess, and Tidal comes out consistently on top.

I don't know if the video calls it out but Tidal also integrates into Plex, which is amazing

Most of the stuff I listen to never had lyrics support or had incorrect lyrics anyway.
