There's also altruistic surrogacy without a financial incentive for the surrogate, and there's cis lesbian couples where one woman is the surrogate for the other. In my country, both of these options are illegal and that situation actually requires that queer people interested have the procedure done abroad. Framing the issue as "queer rights checklists include uncritically supporting commercial surrogacy", in a thread about a post making clear homophobic dog whistles about "gay people having to rely on others to produce babies", comes off as more than a little bit sus.
Oh sorry about that. You're right, in the context of the post this is not really an appropriate place to entertain the topic. But let me be clear that I support altruistic surrogacy and think the redditor should be beaten to death with a stick. Well, figuratively at least.
The most fucked up version of this is where the surrogate mother (i.e. the mother) decides to keep her child in the end and the rich Westoids have a cry on the local news about how hard done they are.
Even non-exploitative gestational surrogacy weirds me out. Is it queer men trying to seem more "valid" in a heteronormative world that sees the idea of children as more genetic than sociological? If I marry the same sex when I'm older I'm adopting without question, fuck bougie white gays and their fashy bloodline obsession (cough )
Not having a blood connection with your kid does not make you any less their "real" parent. If you feel any different or think sharing their blood will strengthen your bond pls don't have kids because it's giving eugenics
