2010s: Increasing scarcity increases wealth!

2020s: We can't decarbonise without oil!
2000's: Invading them will make the world more peaceful.

2010's: Venture capital will never run out.
2020s: We have to cancel elections to save democracy.

  Most definitely. This was a justification for destroying whole villages that the Viet Cong were using as cover to attack from / move supplies / etc. People in these villages were essentially fucked because either the Viet Cong or the Americans were going to destroy their homes.

- This makes me feel quite old. They really deserve a second life, though. They hold up really well.
