Which horror/scary movies do you recommend for today? Here's a tier list of everything I watched
Of course I also watched the new FnaF movie, it's a must watch obviously along with new Saw. Idk why they included JP in the list but remembering the original script I can see why lol.
Also just wanna say that Nightmare on Elm Street is THE best premise for a horror movie I can think of off the top of my head. Think of it: the villain kills you IN YOUR NIGHTMARES! That means that if you are a kid and watch the movie AND you go to sleep and have a nightmare about Freddy, then the movie has fulfilled its purpose multiple times over. I speak from experience, it makes the movie a lot spookier because as a kid you think that Freddy is not only REAL, but that heโs chosen YOU as a target. Man, those movies were great, especially Dream Warriors
They don't bother me at all now, but my brother used to hide in my closet or under the bed with a Freddy mask on when I was a young child. I was deathly afraid of the Nightmare movies as a result until much later in my life.
I will admit the historically realistic dialogue for the Lighthouse and the Vvitch is half the reason I love those films so much, I'm a sucker for immersion.
DEEP RED!!!! If you havenโt seen it yet, go into it with ZERO SPOILERS!!! I fancy myself a Horror movie aficionado and my 3 favorite horror movies ever are kinda obscure and Iโm kinda glad they werenโt mentioned in this so far because I think everyone should watch it without having a score to give them a preconceived notion. 1.) Deep Red (a 70s Giallo Film Classic) 2.) Trick r Treat (a newer, modern classic. Worth a revisit once a year around October. Features a cute but deadly Pumpkin-headed mascot, Sam, named after Samhain. Definitely in my top 20 movies.) 3.) House (Hausu, a Japanese โhorrorโ film where nothing is as it seems, as those of us less familiar with Japanese movies, like me, will find some of this movie quite humorous during scenes where they want to convey important shit. The whole movie is very odd but leaves you wanting to see more and more) I HIGHLY recommend these. Also, not in my top movies but The Witch (The VVitch is how it is spelled I think, basically it was released late 2010s and is a very very good movie. The whole time you feel not scared but on edge and just wary of the consequences for every single little act committed by the actors in the film. Really good symbolism for the Puritanical perspective of the day as it takes place in the 1600s.) I really like writing movie reviews if you havenโt noticed.
I actually never liked horror movies or video games or anything. Gonna sound a bit odd but for experiencing horror my favourite method is to play something Dark Souls or Elden Ring. I am always on edge and my heart is pumping when I do that especially during boss fights. Bloodborne is a similar game as well. But despite it having superior gameplay to Dark Souls, I like it less because thematically it is closer to horror. I think I just find horror stuff too scary.
I forgot halloween was coming up otherwise I would have grabbed a used copy of RE4 Remake.
I could never get into any of the souls games, but as a horror fan I always really liked their aesthetics, especially Bloodborne. From has generally really good art direction.
I love Hausu, although it's been a while so I can't recount the plot very well. Not sure how scary it is. My friend loves Martin, and I like it too although I don't really find it scary at all. Maybe somewhat thrilling. Recently I saw Donnie Darko and that was a bit scary and certainly thrilling.
The only slasher horror film I think I've ever enjoyed was Scream which was itself a kind of send-up of the genre. The original Halloween I guess counts too, I'm a sucker for that score though I like Scream a lot more and think it's a better film.
I like horror mainly for atmosphere, Vincent Price movies, that kind of thing.
Shocker is not a genuinely good film, but it is the most enjoyable horror that Iโve watched because of its interesting premise and how it is both intentionally and unintentionally funny. Itโs a shame that they never made it into a series; I would have been curious to see that, but its box office performance was inadequate.
I watch way too much horror, including trashy B-movie stuff. They don't necessarily scare me, only horror video games really do that, but I like the aesthetics a lot. I could go on for hours on horror movies if you let me.
The only thing that never clicked for me are most of the "found footage" genre. Things like Paranormal Activity bored me to tears.
My favourite is probably Alien; and I like [most of] the sequels for different reasons. I really like a lot of Thai horror too, I strongly recommend Shutter if you can find it. Audition is Japanese, but perhaps the only horror movie that disturbed me so much I don't want to watch it again.
We have Bone and All scheduled for tonight and gonna play catch up with Scream 6 and Final Destination 5 later this week since our marathon got screwed up after we bought Borderlands 3 lol.
If you haven't watched it, Bones and All is a pretty original take on cannibalism, as a metaphor for addiction.
