Typical right wing authoritarians. Can't believe reality if it hurts them. They support a guy who rapes pre-pubescent girls and they don't want to say what he did was bad enough to stop him. The right is showing they don't actually care about children. They don't mind pedophiles. They are okay with sacrificing their children. The right hates children so this lines up perfectly with their belief.

It is so entertaining to see how americans eat up every "pedophilia"-bone that is thrown to them.
Like do not get me wrong, powerful people get away with literal murder so of course there are powerful pedos getting away. The Epstein-Story however has been shut down when they offed that guy. Now it is only a smokescreen to rile up the people and divert from other matters and like always it is working like a god damn charm. For the Dems its nice because they can feel like winners without doing anything. Nice. Repubes right now are fumbling a bit because they played the whole "wE gOnNa rElEaSe tHe FiLeS" one to many times but i would bet all my belongings on absolutely nothing happening. At this point i am not even sure they have left any evidence for people to find or whistleblow.

I'm hopeful that maybe some of the MAGAts wake up and start thinking. They were arguing completely opposite of this just last year. How could you not feel confused and angry and lied to? I also kind of feel foolish for still hoping.

As much as its likely that there are multiple sex criminals presently in politics this was a ploy to make the other party look bad and give the news something to write.
Even when you don't believe personal self interests are involved the information is far more useful for intelligence if its not public.
The people absolutely deserve to know but i never had any expectations they would freely give it up.

Of course the Dems are on the files. They are “making an effort” because it’s a political no brainer. They now GOP will block it and look bad doing it, and they can campaign on that they wanted it released.
Those files are the reason we only have 5 frames of whatever impacted the pentagon, why Trump was never held accountable for any of his serious crimes, and how the entire cabal works.
If you can keep them quiet with kompromat, you control the entire state. How is this not bleeding obvious for anyone with half a brain?

There's a handful of accounts I see repeatedly going to bat for centrist (or extreme right or antiwest) positions and they universally have thousands or tens of thousands of comments in less than a year or two. I will sometimes still engage because it's important people don't think it was just left at their comment, but they are clearly not average people. They are either astroturfing or some kind of unwell sycophants. No one posts that much regularly brown nosing to people who actively do not care about you. The platform I use allows tagging of users. I've found that helpful so I at least can recognize them without having to remember their names. I try not to bring too much attention to the fact I'm aware of who is likely engaging in bad faith because it encourages them to change tactics, but I'm sure they know their tells already, but we are not at the point where enough average Lemmy users care or notice. Once more people start to notice hopefully we see them shut down more often. You're not alone in noticing this.
Id rather discuss that later after the current guy who is actively covering it up many steps beyond just not doing anything, is dealt with.
Then we can go back to the Dems. Right now all it's doing is playing directly into what benefits the Republicans, distraction and blaming other people

This is not whataboutism. It’s pointing out hypocrisy of a party that is over the last 8 years have first failed at holding DJT accountable and now are actively collaborating on enabling his authoritarian state by first confirming his incompetent cabinet, then by voting for his bills and now trying to placate voters by “doing an effort” to release the files.
Not to mention railing against democratic candidates who have popular support in their own party.
