Too fast on an ATV. Swerved to doge a car, got clipped, then tossed down a 350ft cliff and landed on a previously crashed car.
My dad said a long time ago that ATVs and snowmobiles are really dangerous because they're relatively easy to drive, so many people who have no business riding them get into accidents, and you're kind of screwed in a crash in either vehicle. I think he had a point, critical support to the ATV in this case.
ken block died on a snowmobile, it's not just dangerous for john q public.
Yeah, that definitely contributed to my thoughts re: snowmobiles.
Where I live, a car driver's license allows you to drive small scooters and mopeds. I have ridden those, as well as bigger motorcycles illegally. Let me tell you, nothing you learn driving a car works for when you're on two wheels, even if they're small. Now imagine a much larger engine on a top-heavy piece of machinery and you have an ATV. Even if it has 4 wheels it's not all that stable.
I always hated ATVs, since they fuck up forests so bad. I guess I should have thought about the positives.
I'm old enough to remember when they came on three wheels instead of four.
Neighborhood next door used to have a bunch of far too young kids on Chinese atvs when they were booming in popularity like a decade ago, kids were always riding around without helmets and unsupervised. It stopped when one child died after running into a telephone pole at full speed without any safety gear on. Still can't believe the negligence of all the parents letting their tiny kids ride those things without helmets or supervision, and I say that as a motorcycle rider.
Nowadays the same thing is happening with e-bikes. I've seen kids riding those things all over the place in the most dangerous way possible. Now the trend seems to be the new "off-road" e-bikes. I see groups of them doing wheelies on the streets regularly. No adult in sight. Only a matter of time.
