a surface-level “win” that doesn’t actually cost Canada anything.
Except for billions of dollars of tax revenue.
- Which would be, in practice, very difficult to enforce. These companies excel in lowering overhead and avoiding taxes. The very fact that brands ike facebook and google are available in nearly every country should tell you the level of coercive power and wealth they actually have.
  I'm not happy about it either, but it is entirely possible that this was a tactic or diversion.
- It was never enforced since 2022. It was a diversion tactic.
I was mad at first but on reflection I think you may be right, and hope this is subtle jiu-jitsu, so to speak. We'll see.
Carney sure seems like he's in a hurry to use any excuse to cut a tax. Letting Trump dictate Canada's internal policy is one hell of a win to give away.
- Y'all are remembering that it's us Canadians that will be paying this tax, right? It's not going to affect any company's bottom line in the slightest.
We already know Trump's bluster isn't about the DST or illegal border crossing or fentynal or any of the other things he's been whining about.
It's about him throwing his (considerable) weight around and making himself feel more important.
And about finding new ways to scam his followers by showing off how super important he is.

Manufactured chaos over a nothing tax that wasn’t even enforced for years.it was a throw away deal to distract Donald cuz he’s so dumb and easily distracted. ‘I won!’ Meanwhile the export market and Canada stocks took a sweet uptick. We expected this. If he actually took on Big Tech, it would scare the hell out of Canadian big tech companies too, and kiss that corporate funding goodbye.
