Seems like Khazan is joining Lies of P with (more) difficulty options!

I like that it comes with a hardcore option too. It gives to both sides and takes nothing away.
I do wish more games would add difficulty with more than just stats increase. Enemies that are more aggressive, use different moves, or even just adding an extra enemy to groupings would be a start. I would also appreciate getting challenge related rewards again instead of "achievements". Anyone remember doing a no kills run on metal gear? You basically unlock cheat mode for doing it.
In essence, it wouldn't take anything away from anyone since more options is just that: more options. People can pick and choose whatever difficulty they feel comfortable with, and it won't impede the enjoyment of their game if someone else chooses a different difficulty. But I get what you mean: both sides get something out of this.
Definitely! I guess the question is how worth it it is for devs to go a step further for other difficulties if they don't know how many people would use them. Like, a stat increase or respective decrease for a lower setting is easier to implement than adding new moves to a kit. It's definitely not impossible but more difficult for sure. It's definitely something people would appreciate, I imagine, since most players can agree on damage sponges not being the way to go for higher difficulties.
And yea, I agree, other incentives than trophies would be nice
I think I said that reflexively as a preemptive defense. So used to people getting bent about these easy modes. I prefer a challenge myself, but dont understand the hate for easy modes, especially in a single player game.
I think Hollow Knight did this sort of thing with the boss arena at the end, all the bosses had extra challenging move sets. Dark Souls 2 comes to mind too, I think certain spots had extra enemies in ng+ or something like that. Been a long long time since I played either but I remember being surprised and happy about it.
tldr: name of difficulty setting "easy" is changed to "normal" and is now the default, current "normal" is now "challenge" and a new difficulty setting is added called "beginner".
"Beginner" is aimed at players new to soulslikes in general, intended for a less stressful experience overall
new "hardcore" difficulty setting is even more difficult than "challenge" and removes health bars and stamina bars for enemies and features a different camera angle for a new experience. support systems like Spirits of Advocacy are removed
