Bulletins and News Discussion from May 5th to May 11th, 2025 - Fuck Fascists Friday

Image is the famous photograph Raising a Flag Over the Reichstag, taken during the Battle of Berlin.

On Friday is May 9th, which is the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, which Russia, among other places, celebrates as the day when the Soviets defeated the Nazis. Naturally, one of the current hotspots of fascism in the world today, Ukraine, is essentially threatening that they might strike Russia or even Moscow itself during that timeframe. Any such strike would almost certainly be symbolic and not aimed at anything too important, as I doubt even Zelensky and his American handlers would actually want to kill a world leader, not least somebody like Xi Jinping. But I would not be surprised if they tried something nonetheless, if only to disrupt the event in some way and not actually kill anybody.

And, as we're on this topic, @EllenKelly@hexbear.net has reminded me that Tuesday is the anniversary of the Nazis burning the Institut für Sexualwissenschaf in 1933, an early institute advocating for the rights of LGBT people, and which also provided early forms of gender-affirming surgeries, as well as hormone therapies. We are currently seeing a crackdown on LGBT rights throughout swathes of the imperial core (as well as countries in the periphery, to the extent that those rights existed there already), and this Nazi-inspired movement will be similarly defeated in the future.

  • Russia and China pledged to use "all efforts to combat the growing attempts to rehabilitate the inhuman ideology of Nazism and racial supremacy" in the main joint statement on the occasion of Xi Jinping's state visit.

Russia and China also pledged to "continue to oppose the glorification of the Nazis and their accomplices, the resurgence of neo-Nazism, militaristic revanchism and practices that contribute to the escalation of various forms of racial discrimination, racism, xenophobia and associated intolerances". In the only explicit mention of the United States, the text criticizes attempts by the Americans and allies to expand NATO's presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Putin and Xi vow to protect shared version of 'historical truth' in Kremlin talks - France24

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with China's leader Xi Jinping in Moscow on Thursday, where they pledged to work together against "unilateralism and bullying". Xi is the most powerful foreign leader attending Russia's World War II commemoration events on Friday. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for joining celebrations to mark 80 years since the "sacred" victory over Adolf Hitler in World War Two, and said the two countries stood together now against "neo-Nazism".

  • Is it just me or does the US heartily benefits from hostilities between India and Pakistan?

    1. It greatly destabilizes two nuclear powers that both border with China.
    2. None of the jets being shot down were build by the US and are build by rivals (France and Russia). China weapon good doesn't mean US weapon bad in true multipolarity.
    3. It pushes India ever closer to the US, especially since India is forced to adopt a hostile anti-Palestinian stance by virtue of rampant Islamophobia within the country.
  • Ansarallah/the Houthis in Yemen have launched another ballistic missile at Israel over the past two hours, targeting Ben Gurion airport. The Yemeni Armed Forces statement:

Israel states that the missile was intercepted by the Arrow 3 midcourse interception system, and that THAAD failed to intercept. Given that there are no pictures or videos of impacts or debris, it's likely that Arrow 3 was the system that intercepted the missile. However, Arrow 3 and THAAD have a very minimal overlap in engagement envelope. Arrow 3 intercepts ballistic missiles in the midcourse phase of flight, at ranges up to 2400km, and altitudes over 100km. THAAD instead is designed to intercept missiles in the terminal phase of flight, at ranges up to 200km, and altitudes between 40-150km. Such a statement has to be read in the current political context of a bilateral ceasefire between the USA and Yemen, excluding Israel.

I expect Israel to respond and bomb Yemen again, like they have done previously. These bombings, while having minimal impact on Yemen's military capabilities, have a large impact on civil society. Here are the before and after images of Sana'a international airport, bombed by Israel. Not much was left, the entire terminal, runway, and three aircraft completely destroyed:

  • More information on United States Air Force Strategic Bomber Task Force deployments: 3 B-2A Spirit stealth bombers are now heading back to the United States, following the bilateral ceasefire between the USA and Yemen, which excludes Israel. This leaves 3 B-2s, and 4 B-52s at Diego Garcia.

Open source SIGINT source on twitter, LOOM 11-13 is a flight of 3 B-2s heading back to the USA

    Xcancel mirror

There are now a total of 11 United States Air Force Strategic Bombers forward deployed (all photos are of said bombers at the respective locations, however only the B-1 photo is from the current deployment):

    Stationed at Diego Garcia:

    • 3x B-2A Spirit stealth bombers.
    • 4x B-52H Stratofortress bombers.

    Stationed in Japan:

    • 4x B-1B Lancer supersonic swing wing bombers.

This means that the maximum JASSM conventional cruise missile salvo per sortie from bombers deployed at Diego Garcia is now 128 JASSMs, and the maximum AGM-86 nuclear cruise missile salvo remains at 80 missiles.

The maximum JASSM or LRASM (anti ship version of JASSM) conventional cruise missile salvo per sortie from bombers deployed at Japan remains at 96 missiles.

  • Israel has presented a plan to take over humanitarian aid in gaza.

The Israeli aid distribution blueprint presented to UN humanitarians envisages only 60 aid trucks per day entering Gaza - “one-tenth of what was being delivered during the ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas which held from 19 January to 18 March.

“It's not nearly enough to meet the needs of 1.1 million children, 2.1 million people,” Mr. Elder insisted. “There is a simple alternative: lift the blockade, let humanitarian aid in, save lives.”

Of course, besides not getting enough aid in, it continues Israels use of humanitarian aid as a weapon, pressuring people to go south.

UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spokesperson James Elder insisted that the Israeli proposal to create a handful of aid hubs exclusively in the south of the Strip would create an “impossible choice between displacement and death”.

The plan “contravenes basic humanitarian principles” and appears designed to “reinforce control over life-sustaining items as a pressure tactic”, he told journalists in Geneva. “It’s dangerous to ask civilians to go into militarized zones to collect rations…humanitarian aid should never be used as a bargaining chip”.

If the Israeli plan were to happen, Gaza’s most vulnerable individuals - the elderly, children with disabilities, the sick and the wounded who cannot travel to designated distribution zones – would face “horrendous challenges” retrieving aid, the UNICEF spokesperson maintained.

  • The biggest and most influential union in Norway just declared they're in support of an economic boycott of Israel:

There were several levels to the boycott of Israel when the LO [Norway's biggest union] Congress voted today.

The majority resolution on a boycott of Israel prevailed.

    It reads as follows:

"If the occupation does not end by September 2025, as the UN General Assembly has demanded, LO will work to ensure that Norway takes the initiative for an international economic boycott."

The resolution that prevailed also states that the Petroleum Fund, Norwegian companies and financial institutions "must refrain from trade and investments in companies that contribute to the maintenance of the occupation."

  • The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) claims to have uncovered what it calls a Hungarian military spy network in western Ukraine and arrested two Hungarian citizens. The Ukrainian newspaper Kyiv Post and the Swedish TV channel Svt Nyheter, citing the SBU, reported that the two arrested individuals were recruited by the Hungarian secret service to carry out the operations. They were previously employed by the Ukrainian army and are now charged with treason, they wrote.

"The task was to gather information on the military security of Transcarpathia, to find vulnerable points in the region's land and air defense, and to study the socio-political views of the local population: in particular, scenarios for their behavior if Hungarian troops enter the region," the SBU wrote.

We contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to find out if they confirm the information and how they comment on it, and we will report it as soon as we receive an answer.

According to SBU information, the recruiter of the two arrested agents is a member of the Hungarian counterintelligence, whose exact identity is also known, but the public report does not mention it.

About one of the arrested agents, it is revealed that he is 40 years old, once served as a soldier in the Beregszász district, and was a sleeper agent who was recruited in 2021 and activated last September, Unian wrote.

    update:

Hungary has expelled two Ukrainian diplomats who were operating as spies at the embassy in Budapest. This action comes in response to what Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called Kyiv's persistent smear campaigns against Hungary.

  • From the looks of India's drone attack on Pakistan this morning with Israel Aerospace Industries Harpy and Harop one way attack drones/loitering munitions, it looks like India was trying to carry out a Suppression/Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD/DEAD) mission using the drones. The Harpy has a anti radiation seeker in the nose, while the Harop has a electro-optical sensor, a camera that can transmit footage back to the operator. India were hoping that Pakistan would light up the drones with their advanced air defence systems, such as the HQ-9 and HQ-16, turning on their radars and maybe even firing at the drones, thus revealing their position and opening them up to being targeted by the Harpy anti radiation seeking drones, and potentially ROCKS/Crystal Maze 2, and Rudram-II Air Launched Ballistic Missiles with anti radiation seekers.

    IAI Harpy:

    IAI Harop:

However, Pakistan quickly wised up to what was happening, turned off the radars and stopped firing from their advanced air defence systems that were targeted, and moved them quickly out of harms way, should their position be comprimised after firing and engaging initially. There are photos of Pakistan quickly moving an HQ-16 battery around to prevent a hit, with a seperate 4x4 truck not part of the HQ-16 system getting hit by Harop drones afterwards. Pakistan made the right choice here, sure India landed some hits as a result and the HQ-16 abandoned it's primary mission of defending those assets that got hit (so SEAD was accomplished for a limited time, system suppressed in fleeing the area) but saving a high value asset like an HQ-16 from damage or destruction during this kind of attack is worth the trade off (DEAD not accomplished, system still operable and undamaged to fight on another day).

    4x4 truck taking hits:

HQ-16 command post or radar vehicle fleeing the scene:

HQ-16 command posts or radar vehicle during peacetime, for identification purposes:

Pakistan then resorted to using jamming and anti aircraft guns against the drones, including the ever reliable Soviet era ZU-23, the AK-47 of anti aircraft guns. So while India landed a few hits and accomplished a limited amount of SEAD, they were unable to get a fix or hit on their primary targets, the HQ-16 and HQ-9, long term SEAD and DEAD not accomplished.

Just for interests sake, hexbear users months ago were talking about the added mobility Chinese air defence systems like the HQ-22 and HQ-16 offer, and how that would be crucial to surviving a modern day SEAD/DEAD campaign in the context of drone warfare.

  • The Palestinian flag-adorned Al-Azhar Mosque in Cape Town's District 6 near the city center had received a bomb threat, reportedly having originated from Miami. Also in Cape Town, a Jewish author of the book Lost Property by the name of Megan Choritz was expelled from the Jewish Literary Festival for "harbouring extremist political views (

)" - wearing a Keffiyeh and being an active member of the SAJFP. She then set up a table outside the Holocaust Museum and was quickly subject to harassment by the police and antisemitic attacks from Zionists, with her stand even being trashed and chairs thrown across the road. Her assistant and another member of the SAJFP Jared Sacks was also assaulted, with the cops of course, doing nothing and just sit back as a Jewish activist is getting attacked by violent extremists in front of the Holocaust Museum. - SAJFP, News24

And in what should arguably be the most damning and critical news of all, the comments of Channel 14's producer Elad Barashi had very recently been brought to light, where he had made incitements of genocide against Gaza, a day or two after the most recent ICJ hearings concluded. The comments originated on 27 February 2025 in Hebrew and were apparently then deleted, either by Twitter moderation or by Elad himself once the reality set in on what he had typed. They have been already archived and translated during the first half of this week, with some traction on non-mainstream media. Channel 14 is also a very major mainstream outlet in ISISrael. Of course, we already know the genocidal intent, rhetoric and actions of the fascist ISISraeli entity and the near-total support for escalatory violence. But these most recent comments are ...quite different.

Harden your hearts, Al-Qassam and Ansar Allah

  • Latest statement by the Yemeni Armed Forces I missed a few days ago. I'd like to publicly apologise to @ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net, it turns out that Ansarallah (known as the Houthis in western media) did actually attack the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier just before the ceasefire, resulting in the loss of an F-18 Super Hornet. Not a direct shootdown, but still a loss caused as a result of an attack. I was wrong, they were right. So three losses as a result of Ansarallah/Houthi attacks.

The most interesting thing is the launch of a ballistic missile. From the latest satellite imagery, the Truman was not within typical Anti Ship Ballistic Missile (ASBM) range. So did Iran actually give Yemen their new longer range ASBM, the Qassem Basir? Such could be a distinct possibility, and explain this attack and the American response.

In response to this potential development a new Iranian ASBM with 1200km range being used to target the Truman, the USA have both de-escalated and escalated. They have de-escalated with Yemen directly, with a seperate peace/ceasefire/truce between the USA and Yemen alone, excluding Israel. However, the US has escalated with Iran, by sending four B-52H Stratofortress bombers to Diego Garcia, alongside the already 6 B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. This ups a potential JASSM cruise missile salvo from a maximum 96 missiles, to 176 missiles. (Each B-2 can carry sixteen JASSMs all internally, each B-52 twenty, twelve on external pylons, and eight internally). B-52s also give the US a nuclear standoff strike capability, each B-52 can carry twenty nuclear armed AGM-86 cruise missiles, for a total nuclear standoff volley of 80 AGM-86s. The B-2 cannot yet carry nuclear armed cruise missiles, only nuclear armed gravity bombs for stand in nuclear strikes.

Three AGM-86 nuclear armed cruise missiles on the external pylon of a B-52:

There are rumours that nuclear talks between the United States and Iran will resume on May 11th, but just rumours for now.

Next round of Iran-US nuclear talks likely to be in Oman at weekend - Reuters, May 6 2025

In the background of this, the US is also set to waive Saudi Arabian normalisation with Israel as a condition for a $100 billion arms agreement and civil nuclear program, with a potential US controlled backdoor for uranium enrichment. More on that here

  • According to NATOpedia, this is what the new pope thinks about stuff:

Pope Leo XIV has opposed the ordination of women to the diaconate. As a bishop Prevost opposed the inclusion of curriculum regarding "teachings on gender in schools" in Peru, stating that the "promotion of gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don't exist". An acquaintance of Pope Leo XIV, Jesus Leon Angeles, noted that he cares for Venezuelan refugees in Peru.

    Homosexuality

In 2012, Prevost lamented that popular culture fostered "sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the Gospel", citing the "homosexual lifestyle" and "alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children".

He said some nice things about peace which is always welcome in these times and there is the anecdote of him telling Fujimori to fuck off but he definitely has some vile and bigoted views.

  • The Pope not speaking in English is a sign that he’s only born in the US but in his heart and mind, he is Peruvian. He even only greeted Peru and in Spanish. Good for him.

  • The bishop of Chiclayo, Robert Prevost, suggested that former president Alberto Fujimori should ask for forgiveness directly from the families that were harmed by the crimes committed during his government, as a response to the request for forgiveness expressed by the former dictator, which for the religious authority was very generic.

    Shining Path Pope

  • god please don't turn all the American liberals catholic just because the new Pope will say something mildly critical of trump. I'll have to hear about "popery" like its 1855 jfc

  • Peruvians are saying that the new Pope is very anti-Sodalitium Christianae Vitae.

    What is Sodalitium Christianae Vitae?

Sodalitium Christianae Vitae (SCV), or Sodalitium of Christian Life was a Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, a society of the Catholic Church. It was founded in Lima, Peru, by Luis Fernando Figari on 8 December 1971. It acquired its canonical form when Pope John Paul II gave his Pontifical approval on 8 July 1997.

The Sodalitium was composed of consecrated laymen and priests, called "Sodalits," who lived in community as brothers and made commitments—not religious vows as such—of celibacy and obedience. There were accusations of brainwashing of young people, and of elitism, conservatism, and authoritarianism; and of sexual abuse by founder Luis Fernando Figari and other Sodalites. There were also allegations of right-wing and falangist activism by Figari in his youth.

On 14 January 2025, Pope Francis signed the decree suppressing the Sodalitium Christianae Vitae; the Sodalitium expressed deep sorrow and shame and requested forgiveness. The decree was formally implemented on 14 April 2025.

  • The new Pope, Leo XIV (Cardinal Robert Prevost from the United States), is 69 years old. He spent much of his career as a missionary in Peru. He was named a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2023.

The new pope hails from Chicago and has supported Francis's line on social justice issues. Francis invited him to Rome to head the Vatican office responsible for selecting priests who will serve as Catholic bishops around the world.

Trump has already congratulated Prevost. "I am honored to know that he is the first American Pope. What a thrill, and what a great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV," Trump wrote.

    • Telegram
  • With a discreet profile and a quiet voice, Prevost tends to avoid the spotlight and interviews. However, he is seen as a reformer, aligned with the line of openness implemented by Francis. He has a solid background in theology and is considered to have a deep knowledge of canon law, which governs the Catholic Church.

He entered religious life at the age of 22. He graduated in theology from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and, at 27, was sent to Rome to study canon law at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas. He was ordained a priest in 1982 and, two years later, began his missionary work in Peru - first in Piura, then in Trujillo, where he remained for ten years, even during the authoritarian government of Alberto Fujimori. Prevost even demanded a public apology for the injustices committed during that period.

In 2014, he was appointed administrator of the Diocese of Chiclayo, where he was ordained bishop and remained for nine years. During this time, he faced the main crisis of his career: in 2023, three women accused Prevost of covering up cases of sexual abuse committed by two priests in Peru when they were still children.

According to the reports, one of the victims called Prevost in 2020. Two years later, he formally received the reports and referred the case to the Vatican. One of the priests was preventively removed and the other was no longer working due to health reasons. The Peruvian diocese denies any cover-up and says that Prevost followed the procedures required by Church law. The Vatican has not yet concluded its investigation.

During his time in Peru, Prevost also held prominent positions in the local Episcopal Conference and was appointed to the Congregation for the Clergy and then to the Congregation for Bishops. In 2023, he received the title of cardinal - a position he held for less than two years before becoming pope, something rare in the modern Church.
