The propaganda and misinformation have gotten to be too much. Advice subs are all fake AI stories. Admins are making a fuss about people breaking the rules, but refuse to disclose what the rules actually are.
I really enjoy Lemmy. The downside is that it's not as easy to organize (and find) niche spaces like on reddit. I'm hoping the small communities have grown more since the first mass migration.

As far as controversies: Avoid the "tankies". You will find them on Hexbear, Lemmy.ml, and lemmygrad. They will not be going away, since the original creator of Lemmy is, apparently, one of them, and seems kind of mad with power. They treat with no man, and are willing to do anything to convince you that authoritarianism is good, as long as it calls itself "socialism". One would think they would have learned their lesson from "National Socialism"... They apparently have not. Not everyone from those servers is a tankie, but most tankies are on those servers. Think of Tankies as the lemmy subspecies of those trolls you shouldn't be feeding.
Contribute to discussions! Especially on a place as small as Lemmy, lurking actively harms the community! Unlike most places, it's generally fairly easy to figure out who's being disingenuous and arguing in bad faith, and most people are very reasonable! It's still the only major community hub for loads of hobbies and such. As an example: the Magic the Gathering community here has 1300 members and almost no activity.
pokemon,yugioh, mtg are sitll all on Reddit. pokemon specifically the card game has direct line of communication(sort of) with the devs, it will be impossible/difficult to convince them to switch here. theres also certain companies that uses thier specific subs too.

I am pretty sure a bunch of mods on big subreddits are actually Reddit employees cosplaying as normal users too.
Oh, and Reddit is now shadow banning your accounts when you evade a ban on a sub. So now I got all my accounts shadow banned because I ended up commenting on a sub I was banned on one account without noticing it, so I have zero reasons to go back to using reddit anymore. At least before I got a ban and was notified about how long it would take for my accounts to be usable again, now they are shadow banned without any notifications and I have no idea if they will ever go back to normal or not, so fuck it.
oh yea i know some admins can be the mods. there are 92 mods that own over 500 subs, so i would think they are part of this power group of mods. and then we got the lowly mods of the regular subs. i heard about the blanket shadowbans in another site, they still do that to people who had100s of accts, but it also hit regular people too, that dint even violate a policy, so im thinking its an AI doing all these bannings and so many innocents are just caught up, and they cant even repeal it.

Does anyone know how to reliably delete an entire reddit account, ideally editing over each comment as well? I did this before they closed off access to the API but upon checking months later, they had reverted all the changes so my account looks like it did before with everything visible.

you can use powersuite suite or shreddit to get rid of your posts, i used a different extension to do it. i find it sometimes even my old comments can get targeted by people too.

I have a suspicion that I was followed by a mod who banned me and accused me of "throwing a tantrum" and muting me from contacting him again when I asked him to justify his ban for "promoting violence" when I very plainly hadn't. I kept getting bans for the same thing across various other subs for similar non promotion of violence, rather laughing about the idea of a politician possessed by the ghost of GG Allin ruining their life with antics, and for harrassment for some post that wasn't even deleted when I got my ban, so I have no idea what it even was.
No time for that kind of nonsense. The "you're in trouble for liking the wrong comments" step is the final step into full mean girl pettiness. Reddit has become an HOA.
some large subs can crossban you, if the bots of a specific sub detects you went into a controversial sub they deemed as "brigrade threat". i once commented in joe rogan was immediately banned from 2 subs. eventhough the people on that sub, criticises joe roegan more than it supports him.

A few ban-happy,power tripping moderators did come over here, though. I don't have specifics on that, I just know I've seen them, and I've also been banned for some real dumb shit. I just stay away from those communities/instances.
This feels somewhat different because previously, generally speaking, the problematic subreddits (jailbait, fat people hate, etc) were pretty much isolated to that subreddit, so action could be taken to that subreddit without a big blast radius to the rest of the site. Also, for the most part, the issues were targeting marginalized people. Going after people in the comments of r/popculture for upvoting a comment about Luigi is nothing like previous controversies.
I swear, there are some people that actively seek out parts of the internet to gain control of so they can push their agendas.

They banned my old reddit account because I reported fake news that was being posted on r/conservative. Apparently subreddit mods can report users who use the report tool and can just get you banned.
They recently, meaning I don’t exactly know when it happened, gave mods the ability to report you for “Abuse of the report tool”. For the record, I’m a mod on some subreddits, and that’s an absurd thing to need. I’ve learned a few things about being a Reddit mod.
yea ive been reported for "report abuse" when the comments were legitimately trolls or obviously posting misinformation, crossbanning is also just as ridiculous. from what ive gathered, some mods are lazy into responding to every post being reported so they decided just to get rid of the reporter instead having to deal with.

Where the Admins have fucked up is if you harass a mod via modmail, they can only mute you for I think 28 days max, before you can start harassing them again. So, instead of letting a mod simply mute you forever, they created the report bullshit.
I got banned because I posted a comment on an anti vaxx sub (I was challenging one of their comments) and found out a lot of subs had ban bots that just watched who posted to subs they didn't like. Whatever you do don't put any thought into your mod work or look at the comment's context.
Public moderation logs need to become the norm.
I got a warning for a similar thing. They can disagree with the report, but warning/banning users for it is insane

Me not, I never really belonged on that site. I may have browsed it, maybe made some posts but I never truly was a Redditor, never graduated from a lurker. I never had the right mindset for that, nor enjoyed the lame jokes, not to mention I am holding many wrong opinions and karma means nothing to me.

it wasnt that bad before, trumps 1st term, then every sub became extremely sensitive to many topics, and politics started to infilitrate a ton of subs(you have the bots to thank for it) this is just the latest result of it. this last election, reddit went to overdrive to ban anyone. i found myself moving between different acc, to seperate the accounts liability to potential bans(acct for specific niches).

My 11 year old account, very active account, was recently banned from reddit but I'm not sure why. They deleted the comment so I'm not sure what it said. But I've been posting there for 11 years with no issues so something has changed.
I believe the comment I made was talking about if the US invaded Canada and I said they would be hard pressed to hold the country because Canadians look like Americans and we would take the battle across the border.

Well, maybe I was just in the wrong reddit spaces to notice. I didn't see any occasion (or article) that mentioned censorship like it's happening on Twitter. Even things that are commonly censored in social media like posts about death and suicide were not censored. I'd love to know more if this was happening outside my bubble.

This will begin with users who are upvoting violent content, but we may consider expanding this in the future. In addition, while this is currently “warn only,” we will consider adding additional actions down the road.
We know that the culture of a community is not just what gets posted, but what is engaged with. Voting comes with responsibility. This will have no impact on the vast majority of users as most already downvote or report abusive content. It is everyone’s collective responsibility to ensure that our ecosystem is healthy and that there is no tolerance for abuse on the site.
This was the only thing left reddit had going for itself: that users can influence the algorithm with their votes.

As someone who switched to feddit just a few days ago I can say this has been building up. Small things like deciding which comments get visibility, phasing out old.reddit, doing nothing about bots, introducing bot/karmafarma-friendly mechanisms, an uptick in pro-MAGA posts/comments as well as disinfo bots ... but still, this feels like an uncharacteristically large step.

I would upvote this post if you didn't include mention of Luigi in the title. The image and the extreme action isn't about Luigi at all. A mod was banned for upvoting an article from The Guardian about Donald Trump. If it were actually about Luigi then that would actually make more sense as a decision from Reddit admins, but it's not. The user was banned for upvoting trustworthy news about Donald Trump.

A major difference, even so, is that Trump has several felon convictions and impeachments.

Mods on Lemmy are a bunch of Napoleonic cunts as well. I'm constantly having posts censored and deleted without clear reason or explanation.
your post was removed because it didn't look like it was from a microblog. i think posting the screenshot of the microblog post you got it from would work out. you can check the modlog.
Didn't know about the modlog thanks. That was indeed the reason my post was censored even though it very obviously looks like a microblog, is identical to all the other community posts, and is a quote from 1937 so it doesn't matter who reposts. Unsurprisingly, mods are great at censorship, splitting hairs and being pedantic though.
