After ArriveCan it's no surprise that something like this would come out calling for them to look at costs on these contracts.
Although with the amount of tech debt in the government any IT work will be an uphill battle and no politician wants to pay to cut down tech debt. So I don't see a way out for them at the moment.

if IT people reviewed these things they might not go to the preferred liberal friendly individuals
- I’ve been in this industry for 10+ years under both Liberal and Conservative governments - the contracts are not dependent on what government is in power.
  In fact, the IBM Phoenix contract - the poster boy for one of the most wasteful IT contracts ever - was awarded in 2011 when Harper was in power.
