57k people in the entire country. Doesn't seem like a great idea when Trump is talking about annexation and they're sitting on trillions in natural resources... Unless you're amenable to being annexed. Pretty sure the US is getting a new territory.
they’re sitting on trillions in natural resources…
I mean those resources are going to land in US pockets with 99% probablility anyway, so they might be hoping for at least some control and getting bribed on national scale, like Saudis, but even more since there's much less of them.
I was at an arctic conference in 2018, and there were a few talks about Greenland which seemed weirdly focused on China investing in their resources. So it is possible that Trump is aware of this and wants to wrest control from Chai-nah. Though I don't know how the situation has evolved since then.
You'd catch me being the very first after the Greenlanders themselves, to sing "Nuna Asiilasooq" with all the strength that my voice can muster, from my balcony, the moment the day finally comes. Infinite support to colonized peoples around the world in their struggle for national freedom!
On the other hand, the "international community" might look away as the US forcefully annexes a colony that elected a socialist leader and got uppity about independence.
