He was carrying around the gun and a manifesto... he was trying to be caught. Dude probably was going out to eat every meal and getting frustrated that no one called the cops on him till today.
- Carrying the gun seems particularly fucking stupid.
  
  Like suspiciously stupid. Getting caught, even if you get your manifesto out there, doesn't really help your cause. Disappearing; leaving a constant doubt of a professional killer hunting insurance CEOs would.
  So here's hoping Luigi plays along for a couple weeks and goes "haha suckers, here's my alibi."
  
  And, from all accounts, this guy was not stupid - high school valedictorian, high honors in college, tech bro who made or acquired a ghost gun. My guess is the evidence was planted or he wanted to get caught. I mean, it was a ghost gun - he could have melted it down or broke it into pieces, etc. Why would he still have it?

  Mental disease or defect? But yeah I've seen what folks are writing about the dude and he certainly doesn't seem "stupid" on paper.
- Seems sus. The guy didn't look like the other photos to me and why would you keep evidence on your person like that? Why not ditch the gun and jacket? Seems like someone taking the fall so the cops and stuff look good.
  
  You asked why as a reply to a comment that suggested he wanted to get caught. That would be the why.
  Perhaps he wants to have his day in court and air out what these evil companies do.
  
  Seems like he could've done that by posting a YouTube video and turning himself in if he wanted to be caught that easily.
  
  Maybe he had more than one target, thus he still needed the gun.
  
  You can like, get more guns. Or hide them in advance.
- Apparently he had some pending YouTube videos being published, but YouTube took down his account.
  Also, he stated to the police that he didn't know where the money came from, suspecting it might have been a plant.
