One year on. Hundreds of thousands are dying or dead, millions are displaced, the Middle East is undergoing its greatest changes in a generation, Iran has directly attacked Israel twice in one year, and Yemen has proven that the US Navy ain't worth shit. We are the closest we have been to nuclear war (discounting accidents) in decades, but also the fall of Israel.
Because one day, the prisoners of a concentration camp paraglided over a wall.

“I plan on having a Republican in my cabinet,” Harris said, repeating a promise she has made before. “You asked me, what’s the difference between Joe Biden and me. Well, that will be one of the differences. I’m going to have a Republican because I don’t, I don’t feel burdened by letting pride get in the way of a good idea."
"Trump and the Republicans want a christo-fascist ethnostate. Vote for me so we can have a bipartisan fascist ethnostate"
I saw a comment on the TrueAnon sub that said “if any of you youngsters are around in 50 years when the U.S. admits it blew up the Nordstream, let them know we knew.”
We’re basically at this point with the Iraq weapons of mass destruction narrative. I marched; we knew. The lib friend I marched with doesn’t give a shit anymore. (He’s wealthy.)
The 2k ton bombs that Israel dropped on Lebanon were made by the US. US bombs killed Hassan Nasrallah. I don’t see the distinction between the US funding and making the weapons for the genocide(s) (and probably (definitely?) having US troops in IOF) versus having an actually declared war against Palestine/Lebanon/etc (which the US doesn’t even do anymore anyway).
My University held a student's assembly today and decided: The University is now taken and partially managed by it's students until Wednesday, when the action will be temporarily suspended because we will hold a protest. However, if the Argentinian Congress fails to overturn milei's veto on education funding, a new assembly will be celebrated to decide on the next action. An indefinite occupation of the premises is not out of the question. We joined our efforts with the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Buenos Aires and other institutions that have carried out similar actions. This can become a big snowball very quickly.
Wherever this ends, it's valuable experience. Even if we don't achieve political victories, let it be known that we can work together and we can act in solidarity with one another. That's a big win, because we can find the ways to transform the material reality in capitalism, and that is, to me, the way to bring it down.
Reporter @cosgrove_iv confronts Matt Miller on U.S. foreign policy: You're risking nuclear war while financing genocide—people are sick of the bullshit!
"So my question for you is you know we often hear in response to these concerns that while Putin, Khomeini, you know they're terrorists as if they're too inherently evil or immoral for us to negotiate with. But meanwhile, this administration has financed a genocide in Gaza for the last year, and every day you're up there denying accountability for it."
rewatching vids of oct 7 reminded me of something I was thinking when it happened. Hamas was putting video out within a few hours of Al-Aqsa Flood start and I suspect they had crews on motorcycles collecting go-pro sd cards and porting them back into Gaza where Hamas propaganda warriors would edit and upload almost in real time. Like it wasn't just an add-on but a significant part of the operation. They were putting out video, info graphics and other related stuff in order to dominate the narrative as soon as possible. This might be the first time the term 'keyboard warrior' was a real thing and they were likely targeted by IOF in the subsequent bombing campaign. o7 to all the people behind the line.
What do I do with this heart-wrentching sick and rage I feel as I move about the world? Everyone going about their business as if we're not actively and in real-time, complicit in a genocide? It's surreal. It's bewildering.
Jeremy Loffredo of the Grayzone has reportedly been kidnapped by the IOF, this is his last report.
Quite interesting, especially the missile location 1000feet away from Mossad HQ. Looks like Iran missed the target by a small amount.
Say whatever you want about the shitty parts of the Grayzone but operating like this inside Israel is incredibly ballsy, bordering on stupidity but I commend them.
I'm smack in the middle of the hurricane's path, and I know there are good normal people here, but I just feel a sense of giddy excitement that the reactionary fucks that make up the bulk of this cursed population are going to feel 1/1000th of the hardship that we force on Gaza every single day. Florida deserves this.
US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson has asked political forces in the country to “prepare for the post-Hezbollah phase, where its control over the state and its institutions and the state’s border crossings is no longer permitted.” Al-Akhbar reported on 11 October.
She reiterated that “Hezbollah has become very weak after the strikes that were directed at it, targeting its leaders and killing its Secretary-General, and therefore, it can no longer impose what it wants, and there is a new political phase that the country will witness soon in which the party has no place.”
delusional. they are still sticking to this deranged fantasy that killing Nasrallah (and 600 bystanders) somehow made Hezbollah a fraction of its former self. hard to believe this is purely cynical, feels like it could be that syndrome where the failsons running the show have fallen for all the previous generation's propaganda
There was a citizens initiative to counter this in 2021, but as is to be expected it made no difference. There is now a new initiative (essentially a "please don't do this) up, but looks like we are getting privatized water next.
The EU citizen's initiatives are the biggest scam in optics imo. Finns love them, they are doing so much democracy by signing them.
Brown University announced on Wednesday that its governing board had voted to reject a student proposal to divest from companies involved in Israeli military and security activities.
The vote, on Tuesday, was the first of its kind in the Ivy League since the start of the Israel-Hamas war one year ago, which has ignited an international protest movement.
An interview with senior Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzouk. Some selected quotes and commentary:
The October 7th operation halted Israel’s project of regional dominance after it was shattered by just a few hundred Al-Qassam fighters. Israel can no longer claim that it protects the region and the Gulf against Iran, and thus all efforts to integrate it into the region have failed as a result of this operation.
I think this speaks to the fact that KSA and Israel were closing in on a deal for official recognition. But it’s deeper than just diplomatic ties. Israel wants to be “integrated” (I think more like, “in charge”) in with neighbors like KSA, Jordan and Egypt. Diplomatic, military, and economic integration - again, I don’t think Israel has equality in mind, though. That would have been horrible for the Palestinians, and that project is now dead in the water and likely will be for some time.
As for the goals set by Hamas, they have been solidified on the ground, and the national project is now closer to realization, while the Zionist project is further from execution, despite the balance of power and the American support for Israel.
Yes I get that a senior Hamas leader will probably say this regardless but it’s still nice to hear, and I also happen to think this jives with the reality on the ground.
After every setback for the national movement and resistance, the people produced new elements to confront the Zionist movement. After the 1927 revolution came the 1936 revolution. Thirty-six years later, there was the 1947 war, followed by the fedayeen operations, then the formation of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Liberation Army. After 1984 and PLO’s exit from Lebanon, the First Intifada started in 1987, then the second in 2000, followed by wars in 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2021.
This is very dialectical.
We extend our appreciation to the international solidarity movement with Palestine for their humanity and their efforts in confronting war criminals, despite the daily pressures they face. The situation even reached the point where American pilot Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire in protest against Israel’s genocide and the Biden administration’s stance on the war. We, along with our people, are deeply grateful to him and his family, as well as to all the free individuals standing in solidarity with our cause.
The Resistance frequently harkens back to Aaron Bushnell, I think he would be proud to know what his sacrifice meant to them.
I’m at my grandfathers house and it always reminds me how I’ll never be as cool as him. He has a few pictures of him with Jacobo Arbenz and talks fondly about the time he met che Guevara during his time in Guatemala.
The allowed aid into Gaza is now down to <200,000 kilograms per day, with food and water effectively now illegal in the northern half. Gaza Soup Kitchen North is also now practically defunct, with them stating they have likely served their last meals 2 days ago.
There is less food in Gaza than in Johannesburg's hyper-dense Hillbrow neighbourhood of 75,000 people.

Frustrated with US, Argentina’s Milei seeks rapprochement with China
In a television interview this week, Milei described China as a "very interesting commercial partner" and said he was "positively surprised by China" - a stark contrast to his earlier rhetoric, in which he referred to China as an "assassin" state while vowing to prioritise relations with Western allies.

The IOF when Hezbollah comes out fighting even harder after Nasrallah was martyred:
What colonial regimes and it's liberal allies will forever fail to understand is that colonized peoples will not fight for individuals. They fight for the idea of liberation, and you can't kill ideas. The struggle will continue, with ups and downs, but will nevertheless continue until it achieves victory. And there's nothing they can do about it, it's an inherent flaw of colonial regimes.
New info on the Nord Stream bombing just came out from the Danish paper Politiken, stating that the harbor master of Christiansø island (Near Bornholm) thought some ships needed rescue as their radios were off, and was turned away by the US military when approached.
For the first few days, the harbor master said he was ‘not allowed to say a thing.’ But today, John Anker Nielsen can reveal that four or five days before the Nord Stream blasts, he was out with the rescue service on Christiansø, because there were some ships with switched-off radios [transponders]. They turned out to be American naval vessels, and when the rescue service approached, they were told by Naval Command to turn back.
The Americans have these small unmanned submarines that can solve any task, John Anker Nielsen has been told. The harbor master’s family has lived on Christiansø for seven generations, and he knows all about the weather and wind conditions in the Baltic Sea. Against this background, he doesn’t give much credence to the theory of a yacht and some Ukrainians diving down to 80 meters
Interestingly, it corroborates what MoA was saying as far back as February 9, 2023 as he corrected Hersh's specifics, which were inaccurate when talking about the timing window. This was days after Hersh's article. Hersh said the bombs were planted months in advance at some NATO exercise, MoA pointed out this was unlikely for various reasons and instead the bombs were planted there by US navy vessels a few days before the blast with transponders turned off. He was exactly correct.
It is unlikely that the explosives were put out while the yearly BALTOPS exercise was still ongoing... The whole exercise took only 12 days. A lot of nations took part. Submarines were involved. The Russian's were around watching what was happening. (They like also had submarines in the wider area.)
Those are not good conditions to do a lot of secret underwater work. It was much easier to do this later, when everyone had turned back to port. The U.S. ships though did not sail home. They stayed around, did some harbor visits and eventually settled down near the island of Bornholm a few miles away from the pipelines where they started to do their work.
To blow such pipelines takes a lot more than just putting a few pounds of C4 explosives on top of them. The pipelines had first to be dug out, must likely with pressurized water. Next explosives had to be placed all around them. Then a trigger mechanism of some kind had to be deployed and fixed on to them. Lastly the explosive laden section would have to be reburied to prevent detection or unforeseen entanglement with some external elements. All this had to be done at least four times. If I had planned the operation I probably would have gone for a total of eight explosive packages.
The whole process takes time. Unmanned submarine like vehicles were needed to carry the hundreds of kilograms of explosives and equipment. Diving time at that depth is not unlimited and there must have been a few crew changes. It probably took three to four weeks to fix the whole issue.
The USS Kearsarge was much longer in the Baltic Sea than Hersh presumes. The explosives were put down sometime between the end of BALTOPS on June 17 and September 22, the date the USS Kearsarge passed Fehmarn to leave the Baltic Sea.
That window was not [extended] by months between the end of BALTOPS and the explosions but by a mere few days between somewhat around September 20 when the Kearsarge went on its way back home and September 27 when the pipelines exploded.
The Kearsarge was likely selected for purpose. The ship has a well deck, which opens to the sea through huge gates in the ship's stern. There, the cargo, troops and vehicles are loaded onto landing craft for transit to the beach. The air cushion landing craft can "fly" out of the dry well deck, or the well deck can be flooded so that conventional landing craft can float out on their way to the beach.
Usually the Kearsarge would be a too big missile target to be in the Baltic Sea. But the well deck comes in handy when one wants to test new underwater equipment or put explosives around pipelines:
In support of BALTOPS, U.S. Navy 6th Fleet partnered with U.S. Navy research and warfare centers to bring the latest advancements in unmanned underwater vehicle mine hunting technology to the Baltic Sea to demonstrate the vehicle’s effectiveness in operational scenarios.
Christiansø is basically right on top of Bornholm. MoA got the motive, the suspect, the location, the timeline all correct - more correct than Hersh and all his CIA contacts who only got the suspect and motive correct. I realize he's since become controversial for some boomer takes, but there's a reason we still read and link to him. He knows what the fuck he's talking about when it comes to NATO navies and armies. He had already unearthed most of this 2 days after the bombings, and Hersh took nearly 5 months to put out a less accurate version of what b just sleuthed out from knowing about NATO navies.
At a campaign event geared toward Republican supporters in Scottsdale, Ariz., Ms. Harris said the council would be an attempt to “put some structure” around policy discussions that reach across the aisle.
“Wherever they come from, I love good ideas,” she said at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale. “We have to have a healthy two-party system.”
So, for those who don't know, Paraguay has really close relation with Israel. Paraguay has been ruled by the conservative Colorado party (They are mostly Conservative, Neoliberal and Pro-Taiwan. There are some socdems inside the party though, these were part of the anti-Stroessner guerrilas) since the 1950's, with exception of a brief period in the late 2000's, early 2010's where the Liberals (Sometimes called the Blue Party, they are the Pro-PRC Socdems/Liberals) and Leftist actually won the elections with help from moderate and socdem Colorado politicians.
During the brutal far-right dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner, Israel, under the goverment of Golda Meir, approved a plan to pay for 60,000 Palestinians to leave Gaza and go to Paraguay, where they would be used practically as slave labor. The Paraguayan regime saw the Palestinians as ideal immigrants, as they thought were not inclined towards communism because they were muslims.
Only 30 Palestinians immigrated to Paraguay as part of it, and they soon became impoverished. Two of them came to the Israeli embassy in Asuncion to claim money they claimed had not been paid to them, shot the embassy secretary to death because they thought she was calling the police, and wounded another employee.
During the trial, the two claimed that they were lured to immigrate from Gaza to Paraguay, and that they were promised that Israel would help them find a job and learn Spanish. They set off after receiving travel documents, $25 pocket money and plane tickets from Israel via London and Rio de Janeiro. In Paraguay they discovered that they had been misled and the promises made to them were not fulfilled.
The Israeli government placed the blame on Fatah members , but the organization denied involvement. The entire deal was eventually canceled.
2 guys told me they loved it, 1 in California and 1 in Las Vegas
everyone else in Vegas seems to have a problem with it because there were a lot of stink eyes and not so subtle comments and whispers while pointing or glaring
of all the places I've been wearing these shirts for the past 7 months Vegas is the first place where people seem to be more openly hostile and generally against Palestinians. Obviously just anecdotal but it's very odd to me considering it's almost purely tourists from everywhere else

Israel is going full extermination in northern gaza, and I fear they will succeed, specially while the attention is on Lebanon and the possible attack against Iran.
Israel is exterminating northern Gaza right now.
There are 400,000 Palestinians there being deliberately starved, with nowhere to go, trapped inside a killing field. There’s no outrage or wall-to-wall media coverage because Israel is the one doing it and the victims are Arab.
Mass-murdering war criminal Barack Obama compares Trump to Commander Fidel Castro
He said that black men are inventing all kinds of reasons and excuses not to vote for Kamala. “Because part of it makes me think, part of it makes me think that, well, you're just not feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you're inventing other alternatives and other reasons for it.”
“The women in our lives have been supporting us all this time. When we have problems and the system isn't working for us, they're the ones out there marching and protesting. And now, you're thinking of standing aside or supporting someone who has a history of denigrating you, because you think that's a sign of strength, because that's what it is to be a man? Putting women down? That's not acceptable.”
Obama compares Trump's speeches to those of Fidel Castro during a Democratic rally. The reaction has not sat well with many, who have reminded the former American president of his history of rapprochement with the Cuban government.
With sarcasm and laughter, Obama described Trump as a 78-year-old narcissistic and boastful multimillionaire who has not stopped "complaining" since he launched his first campaign in June 2015. "You have the tweets in uppercase. The ramblings and diatribes about crazy conspiracy theories. You have the two-hour speeches, the word salad. Simply... it's like Fidel Castro, over and over again," he said.
"Constant attempts to sell you things: Selling you gold sneakers and a 100,000-dollar watch and, more recently, a Trump Bible," he added in reference to the Republican candidate’s attempts to profit economically from his image.
"If anyone cared about what Obama says, Hillary Clinton would've been president," said Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.
Cosplay leftist is my new favourite insult for the libs playing dressup as socialists and anarchists to look and feel good about themselves but taking liberal political actions in all other ways.
Happy October 7th. Violence against the colonial settler and it's regime is justified and it's the only way to achieve liberation. "Israel" deserved October 7th.
The actions during that day will bring about the elimination of zionism. It has set in motion the events that will lead to it's downfall. Such entity cannot exist for much longer in this state.
I would like to spare a moment to wish suffering upon those who will swim across oceans of blood to vote for rabid zionist Harris. For Trump voters I have nothing to say other than they don't play pretend. But liberals? They will vote for their shit candidate thinking they've done enough good for the people they're massacring. They will step over the bodies of thousands to feel good. When our time comes...
A warm salute to all comrades engaged in this noble fight against "israeli" and "american" genociders. Especially to our comrades in the Middle East who are in direct danger. Much love!
Wall Steet Journal "report" that Russia is smuggling weapons to Yemen. (Linking another phony source because WSJ is behind paywall)
The claim that Russia is hiding Kornet missiles and AK-47's in grain deliveries is the stupidest thing I've read all week. Yemen does not need AK's and ATGM's. Yemenis need food.
This is all another scheme to justify tightening the siege of Yemen. Noteworthy that they are claiming deliveries into the port of Hodeidah (the main port the atlanto-zionists have been bombing).
Saw the Bill Maher video. With each day that passes they get more confident in showing themselves being proud genocide supporters, without an ounce of shame.
However, with each day that passes violence against them also becomes more and more likely and morally acceptable, it is completely justified. They think they're safe saying and doing all that, they think this is the 1990s where you could say whatever the fuck you want and fear no retribution. But little do they know, the world they built (that runs on blood), the system they desperately hold onto, is slowly fading away and a new one will be born. A pathetic zionist like Maher might escape the swift act of Justice, but the genocidal system he helped build and maintain will not.
Never forget who they are and what they did in our times. Memory is important if we want to build a future for ourselves. They've exposed themselves, they've shown their true self, now we must do our part and remember them for when our time comes...

I’m lowkey terrified of what this week will bring. but not any less terrified of the consequences if the situation does not escalate from here. Israel continues to rain death down across West Asia with no consequences save for attacks from the Resistance
a red horse stares down the region today, her maw silently opening wider as her rider grins from the sheer joy of anticipation. the impotence of modern Western leadership, capping off the deliberate and evil policies of their forebears has culminated in an inferno that may well consume the world and reshape the global order permanently.
whatever happens today, I hope that it is in service of a world where innocents are not slaughtered, and Israel in its current form has been either humbled or annihilated. but right now, the dogs of war are hungry. and one way or another, they will sate themselves.
Ministers are being asked to draw up billions of pounds in cuts to infrastructure projects over the next 18 months despite Rachel Reeves pledging to invest more to grow the economy, the Guardian has learned.
Members of the cabinet have been asked to model cuts to their investment plans of up to 10% of their annual capital spending as part of this month’s spending review, government sources said.
The demands would mean big projects such as hospital improvements, road building and defence projects being slowed down or stopped altogether as the government looks for ways to repair what they say is a £22bn black hole in the public finances.
Economists warn that such cuts to capital spending could end up damaging the economy and Britain’s creaking public infrastructure.
Germany is facing its first two-year recession since the early 2000s, as the government downgraded its growth forecast for 2024, predicting a contraction of 0.2 per cent.
“The situation is not satisfactory,” Robert Habeck, economy minister, said on Wednesday. “Since 2018, the German economy has not been growing strongly any more.”
Just a few months ago he had forecast the economy would grow by 0.3 per cent this year.
Germany has been battered by high interest rates, inflation and an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment, which has suppressed consumer demand and investment activity.
Some companies, complaining of high labour and energy costs, a big tax burden and political turbulence, are considering locating some of their production to cheaper countries.
At the same time, consumer spending remains depressed, despite an increase in real wages and falling inflation. The government’s earlier forecast had expected a more robust rebound in consumer demand.
Political instability is also taking its toll on sentiment. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-party coalition is riven by policy conflicts and the rise of populist parties on the far right and far left is undermining business confidence.
Incredible how ideological entrenchment (neoliberalism) + a currency war from the US (Ukraine war) accelerated the destruction of the future of the UK and continental Europe in just a few short years.

FORMER PRESIDENT OBAMA: My understanding, based on reports I’m getting from campaigns and communities, is that we have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all quarters of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running. I also want to say that that seems to be more pronounced with the brothers. So if you don't mind, just for a second, I'm going to speak to y'all and say that when you have a choice that is this clean.
On the one hand, you have somebody who grew up like you, knows you, went to college with you, understands the struggles and pain and joy that comes from those experience... You have someone who has consistently shown disregard, not just for the communities, but for you as a person And you are thinking about sitting out?
And you’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses, I’ve got a problem with that. Because part of it makes me think— and I’m speaking to men directly— part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that
Women in our lives have been getting our backs this entire time... When we get in trouble and the system isn’t working for us, they’re the ones out there marching and protesting. And now, you’re thinking about sitting out or supporting somebody who has a history of denigrating you, because you think that’s a sign of strength, because that’s what being a man is? Putting women down? That’s not acceptable.
I would like to remind everyone of donating directly to the families in Gaza. Many, many of them have GoFundMe and similar campaigns where they ask us for help. They need money. Try to imagine being starved and trying to run for your life. Sick, injured and on top of that starved and to be under constant bombing running for your life or what's left of it. Money we send them is used for basic necessities us free people (as resistance calls us) don't even think about. So please, please, consider "adopting" a family and help them survive this hell.
There's a lot of discussion on how they even receive that money. They do, through merchants (war dogs) who have the cash, so they're also a money exchange, since they receive it from the sender (usually campaign organizer) on their bank account and pay out cash to the receivers, with very high provisions, 15-30%.
Aid by organisations, unfortunately, get stuck. I don't even want to go into the depths of corruption during the war, but every war is like that, brings out the worse in those who can use the situation to their benefit. Also, let's not forget that the criminal IOF is attacking aid trucks. A lot of Gazans told me most of the aid just doesn't come through. That's why direct donations are the best way to help.

It seems Iran is finally realising that it's in their best interest to get the nuke
☢️|🇮🇷 More details about the letter from 39 MPs to the national security council (SNSC).
The letter called for a revision of Iran’s defensive doctrine and requested permission and resources to develop nuclear weapons.
Hasan Akhlaqi Amiri, an Iranian MP & signee of the letter, explained:
"Today, no international organization or even the so-called European and American countries can control the Zionist regime, as this illegitimate regime commits any crime it wishes. Based on this, around 39 members of parliament wrote and signed a letter addressed to the SNSC, requesting that the defensive doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran be reconsidered."
Amiri, referring to the Leader's fatwa declaring nuclear weapons forbidden, which serves as the defensive doctrine of the Islamic Republic, said:
"The Leader's fatwa remains valid, however in the jurisprudence of Shia Islam, time and place play a role in changing rulings, and secondary rulings can replace primary rulings [in time of need].”

Democrats to everyone else: I hate his fascist ass. I never want to see him again. Every since cell of me hates him with burning passion. I will kill him on sight
Democrats to Republicans: please baby let us be together. You want to kill black people, queer people and immigrants and enslave woman? We could do that together. I could even get a swastika tattoo on my forehead for you. I love you baby please don't leave me every second we spend apart feels like pure agony and torture
If Trump is smart (he isnt) he should claim Biden left the people of florida to die after Milton hits, like say he could have movilize the national guard to evacuate people and refuse because they became a red state and voted for him last election.
some republicans have already circulated the story that Biden is sending al relief money to illegal immigrant or ukraine, but i think if they go with the "Biden is punishing florida" angle is going to be more efective plus it helps that Biden really didnt move a finger to reduce the damage
The first few days of COVID lockdowns, when it was only supposed to be for two weeks, is such an interesting time to look back at. No one in the world knew what was going to happen next
US will urgently deploy THAAD air defense batteries in Israel, @ynetalerts reports; deployment will reinforce defenses against Iranian ballistic missiles. This is another signal that Israeli action in Iran is expected to be very forceful & likely trigger Iranian response.
This tells us two things. Israel is likely to attack Iran soon, and the iron dome can do jack shit against Iran missiles (also they might be out of interceptors)
I've seen a lot of articles and youtube videos about how this war triggered Israel's death throes, and the parallels between Israel and apartheid South Africa & Rhodesia, but those media which highlighted the internal contradictions of Israel, its collapsing economy and international standing, often overlook how desperate the US is to have a satellite state in the West Asia enough to brazenly establish its support for Israel.
All this, despite the damage to US prestige and diplomatic credibility (notwithstanding that the US state does not nor needs to care about internal dissident or crisis) because the US can brute force its support and suffer little to no economic or political repercussions.
Israel is a nuclear powered state with very powerful supporters in the US and Europe, as part of a symbiotic relationship these powers have with each other, to ensure the economic and political dominance of the larger political community known as the "West".
My larger concern is what Norman Finkelstein has been saying recently: Israel has defeated Hamas in Gaza by destroying Gaza itself. Therefore, the probability that Israel has the power and support needed to enact its depraved agenda of ethnic cleansing and genocide, and survive its repercussions on the world stage for a decade before it goes back to the status quo of pre October 7th, is a very plausible future.
Israel has managed to pursue this for over a year now.

Iranian officials, media, and analysts close to the government have been signaling potential responses to an Israeli strike on Iran.
They are heavily emphasizing Israel's small size and its vulnerable critical infrastructure, such as oil and gas fields, power plants, refineries, desalination facilities, and the Dimona nuclear reactor.
The message they intend to signal is clear: if Israel targets key Iranian infrastructure like its oil facilities, Iran will retaliate in kind, potentially crippling Israel's economy.
For example, one Iranian analyst highlighted the following energy vulnerabilities in Israel:
🔻"Oil and gas contribute approximately 39% and 42%, respectively, to Israel's energy mix, with more than 80% of its total energy supplied by a few key facilities, making the regime vulnerable to military attacks.
🔻"In 2023, Israel imported 225,000 barrels of oil per day, 60% of which came from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The imported oil is processed at two refineries: Haifa and Ashdod.
🔻"Israel’s gas production and consumption in 2023 were 23.5 and 12.6 billion cubic meters, respectively, with surplus gas exported to Egypt and Jordan. The regime’s gas production is heavily reliant on the Leviathan and Tamar fields, which contribute equally.
🔻"Israel’s gas infrastructure is so vulnerable that the destruction of a single gas field would halt its exports to Egypt and Jordan. If both fields were destroyed, 42% of Israel’s total energy supply would be eliminated."
There is also much more open talk of potential nuclear breakout in Iran currently.
Notably, Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the Islamic Republic's founder Ayatollah Khomeini, and a figure known for his moderate and pragmatic stance, recently suggested that Iran may need to build a nuclear weapon while simultaneously expressing support for negotiations.
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, during a his Friday prayer sermon, stated that Iran's October 1 missile strike was the "minimum" of its capabilities to “punish” Israel.
Concurrently, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi has been traveling the region, continuing to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and call for de-escalation.
All this is to say, Iran is clearly preparing for various scenarios.
If Israel responds with significant force, particularly targeting Iranian infrastructure, Iran is likely to counter-escalate proportionally, potentially spiraling the situation into full-scale war.
However, if Israel's response is more measured and largely superficial—amplified in the media to manage Israeli public perception—escalation might be avoided, at least temporarily.
Nonetheless, tensions are unlikely to fully subside until the wars in Gaza and Lebanon reach a conclusion.

The Cradle: US arms dealers witness 'record profits' from Israel's year-long genocide in Gaza, war on Lebanon
Lockheed Martin, makers of the F-35 aircraft that Israel has used to relentlessly bomb Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, produced a 54.86 percent total return from 7 October 2023 to the same date in 2024, outperforming S&P 500 by about 18 percent.
RTX, the makers of 2,000-pound 'bunker buster' bombs that turned most of Gaza to rubble and are currently being dropped inside the Lebanese capital, saw its total return for investors in the past year reach 82.69 percent, outperforming S&P 500 by about 46 percent.
General Dynamics, which also manufactures bunker busters and is behind the BLU-109 bombs that Israel used to level several apartment buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut during the assassination of Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah, delivered a 37 percent total return for investors, outperforming the S&P 500 by just over 3 percent.
Finland to take part for the first time in annual Nato Steadfast Noon -nuclear war rehearsals that start on the 14.10.
The Left Alliance is voicing opposition to this, stating that there has been no discussions about this in parliament. Failing to aknowledge for the fact that they themselves voted for Finland to join NATO knowing fully well that this would follow.
But to uphold the mask of some kind of left politics they've put up a stern post critizining this move, a post that of course changes nothing. Link in Finnish.
Even Norway does not take part in these, but Finland is now speedrunning imperialism as the local bourge has finally been able to seal the deal on NATO after almost a century of propaganda. Nothing is being discussed in public or if it is, it's all glorifying american imperialism. Making Donald Duck the go to reading material for kids in Finland really paid of for the fascists.
Congress ratified milei's veto on university funding. Yesterday an increasing number of universities and other educative institutions were taken by their students. I expect them to call for emergency assemblies in the following hours or days to discuss long term actions.
I love seeing the headlines about Hurricane Milton being "not as bad as expected." It was just a mild climate change-fueled nightmarish natural disaster where millions of people were displaced and thousands of people, some already impoverished, lost possessions and lives. Don't think about it, Americans. It definitely couldn't happen to you. Enjoy your slop.
In a story on the Ukraine - Russia front that was missed with everything going on in the Middle East, video has emerged of a Russian stealth 5th generation Su-57 fighter jet shooting down its own friendly partnered S-70 stealth drone at high altitude, after it lost control of the drone, to prevent technology from the drone falling into enemy hands. This occurred relatively deep inside Ukrainian territory, around the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk Oblast. Videos emerged of some of the wreckage of the S-70 drone on the ground.
While it is obviously not good that Russia lost one of their handful of stealth partner drones, this incident reveals some key information and battlefield firsts. Russia, now with visual evidence, has become the first nation to deploy 5th generation stealth aircraft over highly contested enemy airspace. The stealth capabilities of the Su-57 are very real. It went undetected by Ukrainian air defence systems, including the US manufactured Patriot system, and the remaining Soviet/Russian S-300 systems Ukraine has, while over 20km inside Ukrainian airspace (when measured at the frontlines of the conflict, much further inside Ukraine if measured from 1991 borders) at high altitudes that these systems should have no issue covering. Western copium about the Su-57 not being a true 5th generation stealth aircraft, based off of images of outdated prototypes, has now been disproven by actual evidence.
This also really brings to the forefront two other realities: Ukraine's air defence is very degraded, and Russian commanders are confident that the Su-57s stealth capabilities are enough to carry out deep strikes without being detected with regards the current state of Ukrainian air defence. I have already talked about the stealth one two punch that the Su-57 offers with its stealth cruise missiles in the Kh-69 before, and how this enables Russia to effectively extend the range of these cruise missiles and strike deep inside Ukrainian territory. The most obvious example of this has been the strikes against energy infrastructure using the Kh-69 cruise missile.
Editing to say: Key takeaways from this? Ukraine should be very glad that Russia only have a handful of Su-57 aircraft and S-70 drones, if they had the same amount of these aircraft as the USA has F-22s, the aerial campaign against Ukraine would look very different. Secondly, Iran should be worried about their air defence capabilities against stealth aircraft. The backbone of Iran's air defence is the Russian S-300PMU2 system (NATO name: SA-20B), and locally produced variants of it. We already know that Israeli stealth aircraft in the US made F-35 can bypass the Syrian S-300PM (NATO name: SA-10B) air defence systems with some effort, but still with relative ease. With Iran currently having the most advanced S-300 systems, even more advanced than the S-300PMU (NATO name: SA-10C) systems Ukraine has, some might think that they would do better against stealth aircraft. But that is quite a gamble to take when a lot of the radar technology in the more advanced variant of the system Iran has is simply an evolution of older systems, systems which have now proven to be incapable of detecting both Russian and US made stealth aircraft. Iran ideally S-400 systems soon to adequately deter the stealth threat.
BREAKING: Nicaragua to break relations with Israel by decree in the coming hours, fulfilling the instruction of the National Assembly and President Daniel Ortega.
The Russian Armed Forces have pushed through the left flank of the Kursk group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces , report Ukranian sources
They call today "extremely terrible" because in the Novoivanovka area, the only forces that the Russian Armed Forces encountered from the Ukrainian side were artillerymen and UAVs.
A large group of Ukrainian Armed Forces fled across the border in the Kursk region using equipment, [Russian General] Apty Alaudinov said.
Somewhat related: I saw a few videos recently of large train shipments of vehicles with North Group markings. Notably, there were lots of MRAPs, which I'm starting to think are a good indicator of planned offensives (both Russia and Ukraine seem to use them that way).
Ahahahaha fuck you occupiers, maybe if you stopped colonizing you wouldn’t have to worry about being blown up at dinner. Dozens of casualties with multiple confirmed deaths at a base south of Haifa.
Just a telegram rumor, but apparently Herzl Halevi may have been killed in the attack
Hezb statement
🟡| Statement issued by Hezbollah’s Operations Room:
We had previously warned that the Israeli enemy's continued aggression against our noble people in all parts of resilient Lebanon would make Haifa and beyond, for the resistance's missiles and drones, equivalent to Kiryat Shmona, Metula, and other border settlements with Lebanon. We accompanied this warning with information gathered by our drones, "Al-Hudhud," regarding "sensitive" Israeli military targets and "vital" Israeli facilities in occupied Palestine, especially in the occupied city of Haifa. We also assured this enemy that the Islamic Resistance sees and hears where they do not expect.
The Israeli enemy wagered that the Islamic Resistance would not be able to carry out its threat after their despicable security operations and the assassination of our honored leaders, foremost among them our most revered martyr, His Eminence, Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah (may his soul rest in peace). Ignoring our warnings, they continued their aggression against our noble people and committed the most heinous massacres against women and children, particularly in Beirut and the southern suburbs.
In response to all of this, the decision of the Islamic Resistance leadership was to discipline this enemy and show a fraction of what it is capable of, at any time and place of its choosing, whether secretly or openly. The target was one of the training camps of the elite Golani Brigade in Binyamina, south of occupied Haifa, a location unknown to many settlers.
In a sophisticated and complex operation, the Islamic Resistance's missile forces launched dozens of rockets towards various targets in the areas of Nahariya and Akka to engage the Israeli air defense systems. Simultaneously, the Islamic Resistance's air force launched swarms of various drones, some of which were used for the first time, towards different areas in Akka and Haifa. These advanced drones successfully penetrated the Israeli air defense radars without detection and reached their target at the training camp of the elite Golani Brigade in Binyamina, south of occupied Haifa. They exploded in rooms where dozens of Israeli officers and soldiers were gathered, preparing to participate in the aggression against Lebanon, including senior officers, resulting in many casualties.
The Islamic Resistance pledges to the most honorable and pure people that it will remain their protective shield and will not allow this cowardly enemy to isolate them. It renews its promise to its most revered martyr that it will continue to defend the beloved land of Lebanon according to the field plans that were personally overseen by him and the martyred leaders. The enemy is warned that what they witnessed today in southern Haifa is only a glimpse of what awaits them if they decide to continue their aggression against our proud and noble people.
Han Kang, the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in literature, has declined to hold a press conference, citing the global tragedies of the Ukraine-Russia war and the Israel-Palestine conflict.
By KTimes
Han Kang, the first Korean to win the Nobel Prize in literature, has declined to hold a press conference, citing the global tragedies of the Ukraine-Russia war and the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Her father, the renowned novelist Han Seung-won, 85, conveyed her message during a press conference at the Han Seung-won Literary School in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province.
"(Han Kang) told me, 'With the war intensifying and people being carried out dead every day, how can we have a celebration or a press conference?' She said she won't hold a press conference," he said.
After the Nobel Prize in literature was announced on Thursday evening, Han Seung-won spoke with his daughter and advised her to select a publishing house to hold a press conference.
Initially, she agreed, saying she would "give it a try," but changed her mind overnight.
"Her perspective has shifted from being a writer living in Korea to a global (writer's) consciousness. I, however, could not shake off the feeling of being the father of a prizewinner living in Korea, so I ended up arranging this press conference," he said.
Han Kang also discouraged her father from holding a celebratory banquet at the literary school.
Her father said, "I was planning to throw a party here for the local people, but my daughter told me not to do it. She said, 'Please don't celebrate while witnessing these tragic events (referring to the two wars). The Swedish Academy didn't give me this award for us to enjoy, but to stay more clear-headed.' After hearing that, I was deeply troubled."

After receiving news of her award in a phone call with the Nobel committee on Thursday, Han Kang expressed that she was "very surprised and honored," but has not made any further statements.
Multiple publishing houses, including Changbi Publishers, which published her notable novels "Human Acts" (2014) and "The Vegetarian" (2007), and Munhakdongne Publishing, which published her poetry collection and novel "The Wind Is Blowing" (2010), had suggested holding a press conference, but as of Friday afternoon, she had not responded.
israeli occupation forces are implementing General’s Plan for ethnically cleansing Palestinians from northern parts of #Gaza.
𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒍’𝒔 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒃𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒔:
▪️The israeli occupation military is enacting a plan that will effectively ethnically cleanse the Palestinian population in northern Gaza after a siege that could last months.
▪️Conceived by retired israeli Major-General Giora Eiland, the plan aims to empty northern Gaza of its 400,000 residents to make way for a “closed military zone.”
▪️The plan calls for the ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza, warning that those that remain will face starvation.
▪️"The right thing to do is to inform the approximately 300,000 residents who remained in the northern Gaza Strip… we are ordering you to leave," Eiland said last month.
▪️"In a week, the entire territory of the northern Gaza Strip will become military territory."
Been looking at the Spanish press (through Google news mostly) looking to see if any newspaper or online news brought the attack to the F-35 Teledyne clean room in UK, and I've found NOTHING. Only a Spanish project called SpanishRevolution has given the news as far as ive seen. Two idiots from GreenPeace will pour half a can of soup on the glass in front of a painting and it becomes worldwide news, but real acts of activism such as hurting the factory of weapons that are currently used to genocide children, are consistently silenced. Insane that people pretend we live in countries with freedom of press.
If you think about it, the US believes that they live in a Dark Forest universe. They truly believe that they have to annihilate their opponents before these emerging states/powers surpass their own technologically and escape their sphere of influence.
I am seriously starting to believe that this is the reason Obama likes the Three Body Problem series so much, while taking the wrong lessons from the books, which was a cautionary tale about how the most “rational” belief of destroying your opponents before they have the capacity to do it against you may let you overpower them in the short run, but ultimately lead to the mutually assured destruction of our world. It emphasized that a bit of irrationality, naivety and delusional about our opponents are sometimes needed to put a stop into this chain of madness.
We’ve been very lucky that Putin, who is in control of thousands of nukes enough to blow up the world several times, does not see the world in the same Dark Forest state as the US does. Putin is naive and even delusional about a rapprochement with an imperialist West for years, and yet it was exactly this attitude that kept the peace for as long as we have (even with the war in Ukraine, there is a lot of restraint from escalating further).
Local elections in Belgium and in its biggest Flemish city, Antwerp, it is a neck to neck mayoral race between the ruling Flemish nationalist Party and the openly ML workers party. Gonna be real here and assume we are not going to be the winners, but the fact that one of our biggest cities, with one of the major ports of Europe, came this close to a red mayor is noticable in and of itself.
The campain the nationalists set up was fucking dumb tho. Going all in on the European tradition of xenophobia, islamophobia more specifically. "They go and get their votes at mosques! They praise the Taliban!". Our sitting mayor also said that the workers' party's position that headscarfs and other religious symbols should be allowed in public positions is 'apartheid' (all while being a vocal supporter of the zionist entity)!
From UNIFIL on X, posted a few minutes ago after the IOF attacked them:
Despite putting on protective masks, fifteen peacekeepers suffered effects, including skin irritation and gastrointestinal reactions, after the smoke entered the camp. The peacekeepers are receiving treatment.
Is Israel just taking out its impotency on the civilians of Palestine and Lebanon? Because they damn sure haven’t eliminated Hamas or Hezbollah
For context, Al Jazeera war crimes documentary. Sick to my stomach, everyone involved deserves Nuremberg
https://youtu.be/kPE6vbKix6A
Hilarious how they keep cutting to the British guy who says “destroying civilian possessions and doing [REDACTED] in prisons is against international law”
Unimportant, but this also confirms the stereotype of Israelis having shitty music taste, we get big room “may your village burn” and psytrance blowing up houses
Don’t watch the doc if you don’t want your whole day ruined
Honestly the further we go on with this the more absurd the whole compromise with Biden gets “okay I won’t have a second term but Kamala can run. Uh also I’m just gonna keep being president in the meantime”
It’s impossible for us to know if this will be the key poison pill for her but it’s actually BIZARRE that you wouldn’t just… Have her run AS president? Like jfc the opportunity is right there???
We can’t know how different things would be if people got a little demo of her as president but from the perspective of running a campaign it just makes so much more sense to do it like that!
This dynamic just comes off as weird and confusing to people. She has to walk a fine line where she has to differentiate herself from Biden but she can’t do that TOO much because she’s literally part of the current administration.
I don’t know how stubborn Biden was but when they got the concession from him not to run a second term these stupid motherfuckers should have twisted the knife and kept pressuring his old ass until he capitulated. Should have got Obama, pelosi and all the wonder libs together and yelled at him!!
I feel like I’m going crazy with how stupid these decisions are. As a communist I don’t fuck with her no matter what but damn they had a fucking opportunity six months ago to make this actually make sense to people and they didn’t do it!!!!
Rules based order did it again, now Unifil People got injuried by Israel.
William Christou
William Christou reports from Beirut for the Guardian
Human Rights Watch (HRW) called for a UN inquiry into Israeli attacks on peacekeepers belonging to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) on Friday, after three separate attacks on Unifil personnel in south Lebanon.
HRW said that Israel’s attacks on UN peacekeepers could be a violation of the laws of war, as peacekeepers, including armed members, are civilians. It further called for the UN to “urgently establish” an international investigation in Lebanon and Israel and that their results are made public.
On Friday morning, a Unifil outpost in south Lebanon came under fire. On Thursday, its headquarters in Naqoura had been repeatedly hit, injuring two peacekeepers after an Israeli tank fired at an observation tower on the base. The Israeli military shot at a Unifil position where peacekeepers were sheltering on Wednesday and an Israeli drone flew up to the entrance of the bunker where they were sheltering, Unifil said.
Unifil said its more than 10,400 peacekeepers would remain in south Lebanon until the situation becomes impossible for them to operate. Peacekeepers are already severely restricted in their movements due to Israeli troop presence in south Lebanon.
The peacekeeping force has been present in south Lebanon since 1978, originally designed to confirm Israel’s withdrawal and ensure that armed groups could not use the area as a launching pad for attacks against Israel. Since 2006, it has been tasked with an observation mission to ensure that armed groups do not operate in the area, in line with UN Resolution 1701 which ended the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Unifil has also had a focus on facilitating humanitarian access and aid to south Lebanon, a mission it continues to this day.
“With over 2,000 people killed and over one million people displaced in Lebanon since mid-September, it is crucial for Unifil to be allowed to fulfil its civilian protection and humanitarian functions”, Lama Fakih, Middle East and north Africa director at Human Rights Watch, said.
So Boric, Lula and Petro actually sent their air forces to rescue their citizens in Lebanon and Syria. Meanwhile, Ecuador (Noboa) and Argentina (Milei) have basically told them to get out in commercial planes, because they're not going to do anything to help their own citizens. I understand that Ecuador is in a very bad situation, but what about Milei? Fuck that guy, I hate that guy, literally a pos.
Apartheid-era South Africa, just like shitty-ass-doo-doo-real, also had a plan for a total war against it's neighbours. Of course, this would also include Tanzania and countries bordering Namibia, as South Africa was already at war with Angola, which South Africa ended up losing along with 800,000km² of illegally occupied land (L bozos, ). Pretty much everything in Africa south of the Equator was on the settler-colonialist regime's hit list.
The casus belli was neighbouring countries to South Africa were hosting safehouses and training camps for the ANC/MK guerillas, gun runners, weapons caches and smuggling routes. It was the 1970s and 80s, "israel" had just given South Africa nuclear weapons, IMI Galil rifles (and a license to produce the Vektor R4-R6 series), electrified fences, border security and other weaponsystems. They also decided to overlook the actually anti-semitic tendencies of their Apartheid cousin across the continent. Tanzania was also a key stronghold for anti-apartheid activity and the immortal Rhodesia turned out to be not so immortal afterall, L ( ) and while Tanzania doesn't border South Africa, it likely would have been a target. More likely targets to create a "buffer" would have included Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Angola. With it being the 1970s-80s, this was also the climax of South Africa's apartheid violence and a rapidly escalating period of resistance activity.
Mozambique signed the Nkomati Accord in 1984 with South Africa to expel and prosecute anti-apartheid guerillas, in exchange for South Africa ceasing its covert operations against FRELIMO. South Africa of coursed reneged on this promise and continued to support the anti-communist RENAMO party. This treaty may have also been signed under coercion with Mozambique on the brink of collapse at the time.
Also South Africa, with the possible collaboration of AmeriKKKan and "israeli" regimes, was intending to develop ethnic weaponry for the purpose of creating an ethnostate (and obviously a genocide of half a billion Africans resulting from the planned war), along with other chemical and biological weapons under Project Coast.
40-ish years later, the isnotreali nazi regime is much on the same trajectory.
This is too much. I can't keep forcing myself to bear witness and see it getting worse and worse. We're going to read more unfathomable justifications of why burning a refugee camp never happened, but if it happened, it would be a good thing, and they weren't human anyway.
Just death to Israel, man. I'm welcoming everyone to just launch the nukes for months and months now. Instead, we'll get a few more sternly worded posts from Borell and other useless idiots.
korea opened its us military bases to 'temporary' stays by the jsdf. used to require congressional approval, now nothing. no western sources but do get kr/jp/cn hits.
Why did America try to overthrow Assad, and why did Russia step in? I’ve heard vague things about Americans guarding oil fields in Syria. Was the operation in Syria mostly motivated by oil or is the picture more complicated?
Mohammad Reza Sabbaghian, another MP, also called for the possibility of developing nuclear weapons, stating:
"We will ask the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to consider changing the strategy and fatwa regarding the development of nuclear weapons if deemed appropriate. Building 'nuclear weapons' will be easy for us. In the current situation, to establish deterrence and ensure national security, developing the capability to build nuclear weapons is necessary."
He added: "If the Zionist enemy and its supporters believe that by targeting our peaceful nuclear facilities they can hinder the country's progress in the nuclear field, they are making a mistake. Our request to the authorities is to change the nuclear doctrine of the Islamic Republic. For our self-defense and the nation's security, we will, with the Leader's discretion, change our nuclear approach and pursue the very same weapon they possess; building nuclear weapons is Iran's option for creating deterrence."
While another MP, Sayyid Salman Zaker, said: "I have not seen the letter, but our basis in matters of peace and war is the country’s overarching policies and the statements of the Leader. We consider his guidance to be both authoritative and religious. We will act based on that." He added, "If such letters are reviewed by the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and a decision is made on them, we should not deviate from that decision."
🇰🇵🇰🇷 The DPRK is not interested in attacking South Korea or forcibly unifying the Korean Peninsula. This was stated by Kim Jong Un, as quoted by KCNA.
"In the past, there was much talk about a so-called liberation of the South, even about a forced unification. Now there is absolutely no interest in that," he added, reminding that Pyongyang has announced a policy that essentially recognizes the existence of two states.
listening to some pretty wild theories about how nato/us is going to majorly escalate in europe before elections because the us is unwilling to directly intervene in the middle east and, other than israel, doesn't really have any proxies in the area that can reliably go to bat for it. unlike in europe, where you have the baltics and the rest of nato baying for russian blood. best part about the prediction is that once the escalation happens we'll get to see a dprk intervention in belarus. cant tell if the dude is serious or is just manifesting finno korean hyperwar energies.
Denmark Considers Military Support for American aggression in the South China Sea
In a stroke of imperialist megalomania Denmark's political elite is currently debating whether to support the United States in its escalating hostilities towards China in the South China Sea, despite the fact that China has made no threats or hostile moves toward the reclusive Nordic kingdom. China, located far from Denmark's borders and interests, poses no direct threat to the country, but Denmark’s leadership is moving to aligning itself with U.S. imperialism — just as it did during the American Bush regime's illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Denmark's Social Democrat-led right-wing regime has decided to send a single staff officer to the U.S. Pacific Fleet headquarters in occupied Hawaii. This initial step is being spun as a fact-finding mission, but it signals Denmark’s willingness to align with U.S. imperialism in Asia. Troels Lund Poulsen, head of Denmark's Liberal Party-controlled ministry of defense, stated that while there are no immediate plans for broader military deployments, Denmark must "better understand" the situation in the Indo-Pacific.
Several European countries within the American sphere of influence, including Germany, France, and the Netherlands, have already sent contributions to the U.S. Pacific fleet, and Norway is expected to do the same next year. These moves come despite the fact that none of these nations face any direct threat from China.
The regime is receiving support from members of Denmark's rubber-stamp parliament. Carsten Bach, a spokesperson for the far-right libertarian Liberal Alliance, has been vocal in advocating for Denmark to support American aggression, calling for Danish naval contributions in the Pacific. Bach, without citing any direct Danish interests in the region, framed China as a threat and emphasized that Denmark, as a seafaring nation, must bolster U.S. efforts in the Pacific.
SF, a pro-imperialist green party with leftist aesthetics, has expressed some skepticism about this involvement. SF’s defense spokesperson, Anne Valentina Berthelsen, described China as a "bully" but admitted that Denmark's military is in no condition to participate in the Pacific theater. Danish naval capabilities have been severely undermined by years of mismanagement and corruption, leaving the country with frigates that are in disrepair and unfit for combat.
Unlike their rulers, the Danish public remains largely opposed to their country getting involved in American aggression towards China. A recent poll showed that 53% of Danes are against contributing to American military buildup in the Pacific, while only 13% support the idea.
The Colombian National Electoral Council passed a resolution ordering the opening of investigations against Gustavo Petro's 2022 campaign for overspending. Gustavo Petro reacted with a tweet stating that “the coup d'état has begun”.
Another lawfare against a socdem, probably it will fail again, like when the Colombia Supreme Court attempted to remove Petro and the people went to their building and forced them to stop that shit. The judges fled by helicopter, which was pretty funny.
Officially, police are holding him "on suspicion of serious security offenses for publicly publishing... the locations of missile drops near or inside sensitive security facilities, with the aim of bringing this to the notice of the enemy and thereby assisting them in their future attacks."
The charges stem from Jeremy's report for @TheGrayzoneNews showing the aftermath of Iranian attacks on military and intelligence targets inside Israel—the same exact locations which were openly featured in reports broadcast on ABC News and PBS, neither of which currently face such charges.
Originally, the judge overseeing Jeremy's case ordered him released, saying that since Israeli military censors agreed to allow Israeli media to publish both "word of [Jeremy's] arrest and the publications that led to his arrest," Israel could "no longer justify his continued detention."
However, police appealed this decision. For now, Jeremy remains in custody, and his appeal hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
The Grayzone unequivocally rejects these outrageous accusations from Israeli police. We stand by Jeremy's legitimate reporting. The claim that Loffredo and The Grayzone represent Israel’s enemy in wartime merely suggests that the Israeli government views the American people and free press as a legitimate target. We represent no one else. We will fight these charges, and ask that you contact the State Department and urge them to act in defense of their citizen detained in Israel. The US has an obligation to defend its journalists who are merely adhering to their ethical obligation to inform the public of pertinent facts."

Official Hezbollah Telegram Statement issued by the Islamic Resistance Operations Room regarding the operation yesterday against the Golani brigade facility in Haifa:
We had previously warned that the "Israeli" enemy's aggression against our honorable people in all parts of resilient Lebanon would make Haifa and other areas, with respect to the resistance's missiles and drones, akin to Kiryat Shmona, Metula, and other settlements on the border with Lebanon. We accompanied this warning with information from our drones, the "Hudhud," regarding "sensitive" "Israeli" military targets and "vital" "Israeli" facilities in occupied Palestine, especially in the occupied city of Haifa. We made it clear to this enemy that the Islamic Resistance sees and hears where it least expects.
The "Israeli" enemy gambled that the Islamic Resistance would not be able to carry out its threat after the despicable security operations and assassinations of its noble leaders, foremost among them our highest and holiest martyr, His Eminence the Secretary-General Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah (may his noble secret be sanctified). The enemy did not heed our warnings and continued its aggression against our honorable people, committing heinous massacres against women and children, especially in Beirut and the southern suburbs.
After everything that transpired, the decision of the Islamic Resistance leadership was to discipline this enemy and show some of what it is capable of at any time and in any place it chooses, covertly or overtly. The target was one of the camps of the elite "Golani" brigade in Binyamina, south of the occupied city of Haifa, unknown to many settlers.
In a sophisticated and complex operation, the missile force of the Islamic Resistance launched dozens of missiles towards various targets in Nahariya and Acre to overwhelm "Israeli" air defense systems. Simultaneously, the air force of the Islamic Resistance launched diverse swarms of drones, some used for the first time, towards different areas in Acre and Haifa. The advanced drones managed to penetrate "Israeli" air defense radars without detection and reached their target in a training camp for the "Golani" brigade in the Binyamina area south of the occupied city of Haifa, exploding in the rooms where dozens of "Israeli" officers and soldiers were preparing to participate in the assault on Lebanon, including senior officers, resulting in the killing and injuring of scores.
The Islamic Resistance has pledged to the most honorable and pure of people that it will remain their protective shield and will not allow this cowardly enemy to single them out. It renews its promise to its highest and holiest martyr that it will continue to defend the beloved land of Lebanon according to the field plans personally prepared with the martyr leaders. It warns the enemy that what it witnessed today in southern Haifa is but a small taste of what awaits if it decides to continue its aggression against our noble and beloved people.
My 40-something year old cousin is going in for emergency surgery in St. Petersburg tomorrow morning, and his wife has decided to bunker down with their two kids and my uncle despite being in a mandatory evacuation zone. I don't know his wife well enough to try and talk some sense into her about leaving my cousin in the hospital and booking it out of the Tampa area. Really kind of hoping this thing doesn't make landfall near them.
I am writing with some comrades a megathread on Salafi-Wahhabism, to be able to quickly link to people that aren't familiar with it. If anyone wants to help, DM me here or on Matrix
I fucking hate liberals. I thought writing out my comment would make me feel better but it did the opposite.

I saw mention of David Simon on Bluesky and I wondered what he had to say about Gaza and genocide. I found a tweet that is quite something. I had to read it a few times because he obfuscates. I've always thought it's funny when something can be phrased simply but the person can't do that. To me it's a Freudian slip. They are so arrogant and obnoxious they convince themselves that confusing and muddled text makes their self-defined iron-clad case even stronger.
He refuses to mention any place or group by name. He avoids words like Gaza, Gazans, Israel, Israelis. I might be wrong but I don't think even the UN does that when taking about a specific location with a specific war and not some abstract, theoretical debate club bullshit. He claims what's happening in Gaza is not a genocide because there has been no intention by Israel to destroy or mass murder the populace.
Also - hypothetically - if somebody makes civilians suffer or targets them that guy is a war criminal. Obviously - that's kind of weird. Israel isn't just small bunch of guys in Gaza committing war crimes. In any case - he says they should be prosecuted fully. After that he pokes fun at people who in his opinion - intentionally or not - misuses the words genocide and war criminal.
He believes the silly people conflate horrific-but-oopsie mass death and suffering as genocide when he says that some undefined group might be war criminals.
If with intent, you attempt to mass murder a people by any means -- starvation included -- it is a genocide. But if the prosecution of a war results in human desperation without the intention of a belligerent to destroy or mass murder the populace, no. That said. If you are needlessly indifferent to the sufferings of civilians, or if you work to maximize or increase that suffering, or if you target civilians without regard for their status, I'd say you are a war criminal.
Few people are acknowledging that even war crimes, which should be prosecuted fully, are not genocides. They use the words interchangeably now as rhetoric.
Despite myself I kept looking around at his tweets. He also praised Israel's pager terror attack. Because of course he did.
You can call it terror or you can it a war. But certainly, throwing rockets without regard to where they land is indiscriminate, as are, perhaps, many of the Israeli air sorties in reply. Civilians are at great risk. This business with the pagers, purchased for use by Hezbollah combatants and officials, is pretty damn discriminate as weapons systems go.
Finally came across the sat pic with the power outtages from Helene. Sept. 28. Sure its going to be a few days to weeks for the pics of the extent of Milton to come out. Milton hit the area that's just to the South of Helene.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said this Thursday that his country will maintain its position in favor of dialogue in Venezuela, a country in which Brazil has great interests.
Brazil actually depends on Venezuelan oil and energy aid for it's most northern states.
I once again will encourage you all to check out Jon Elmer’s “Resistance Report” section on this week’s Electronic Intifada livesteam. The whole thing is great but Jon’s segment (starts at 1:51:40) is really a wonderful cure for doomerism.
The Resistance is fighting hard and it appears in Gaza that their ability to fight the entity has not degraded at all in the last year. And it’s only just now that Israel has had to commit serious ground troops to Lebanon and this had to come at the cost of taking troops out of Gaza, so the already inept IOF has to try and do more with less in Gaza (and they were already failing with “more”).
Foxconn has chosen Mexico for the site of the world's largest manufacturing facility for Nvidia's GB200 superchips. These chips are a "key component of the U.S. firm's next-generation Blackwell family computing platform," notes Reuters. From the report:
"We're building the largest GB200 production facility on the planet," said Benjamin Ting, Foxconn senior vice president for the cloud enterprise solutions business group. Nvidia said in August that it had started shipping Blackwell samples to its partners and customers after tweaking its design, and expected several billion dollars in revenue from these chips in the fourth quarter. Ting said the partnership between his company and Nvidia was very important and everyone was asking for Nvidia's Blackwell platform. "The demand is awfully huge," Ting said at the company's annual tech day in Taipei, standing next to Nvidia's vice president for AI and robotics, Deepu Talla.
Speaking to reporters later, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the plant was being built in Mexico, and that the capacity there would be "very, very enormous". He did not elaborate. Foxconn already has a large manufacturing presence in Mexico and has invested more than $500 million to date in the state of Chihuahua. Liu said the company's supply chain was ready for the AI revolution, adding its manufacturing capabilities include the "advanced liquid cooling and heat dissipation technologies necessary to complement the GB200 server's infrastructure."
I’m still baffled that Harris at Univision town hall kept touting her endorsement by Bush’s AG Alberto Gonzales (who resigned in disgrace) as though that would mean anything to the audience. Kinda sums up how well this catering to the center right is going

Hurricane Milton, currently pounding the north of the Yucatan peninsula, is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday. It has intensified into a Category 4 storm, and might even reachCategory 5before landfall. Large portions of the coast of western Florida can expect storm surges over 12 feet (3.6 meters), in addition to 5-15 inches (13-38cm) of rainfall and winds reaching 130MPH+ (209km/h+) 157+ MPH (252+ km/h).
What's this? I am receiving news that it is now a Category 5.
RAINFALL: Rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches, with localized totals up to 15 inches, are expected across portions of the Florida Peninsula and the Keys through Wednesday night. This rainfall brings the risk of considerable flash, urban, and areal flooding, along with the potential for moderate to major river flooding.
Milton will also produce rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with isolated totals around 6 inches across northern portions of the Yucatan Peninsula..

Hurricane Milton Discussion Number 13
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL142024
400 AM CDT Tue Oct 08 2024
The structure of Milton has changed significantly overnight. The
pinhole eye seen yesterday has filled and earlier aircraft data
showed a double eyewall structure. More recent microwave images
show only one larger eyewall, and it is clear that Milton is
completing an eyewall replacement cycle. These eyewall replacement
cycles are common in strong hurricanes and often cause the peak
winds to fluctuate, while the wind field generally expands. Based
on the aircraft data from a few hours ago, the initial intensity is
set at 135 kt. Both the NOAA and Air Force Hurricane Hunters are
scheduled to investigate Milton again later this morning.
The major hurricane is beginning to gain latitude, and the latest
initial motion estimate is 075/10 kt. A turn to the northeast with
a slight increase in forward speed is expected later today and
Wednesday as the hurricane moves in the flow between a trough
digging into the Gulf of Mexico and a ridge near the Greater
Antilles. This motion should take the core of Milton to
west-central Florida Wednesday night. After the hurricane passes
Florida, a faster east-northeastward motion is expected within a
more zonal steering flow. Little change was made to the track
forecast through landfall, but this prediction is a little slower
while the system enters and moves over the Atlantic.
Fluctuations in strength due to continued structural changes are
likely during the next day or so while Milton moves across the
central and eastern Gulf of Mexico. An increase in vertical wind
shear will likely cause some weakening before the hurricane reaches
Florida, but there is high confidence that Milton will remain an
extremely dangerous hurricane when it reaches the state. After
landfall, more notable weakening is forecast and Milton is now
expected to become extratropical by day 3 when it is over the
Atlantic. The NHC intensity forecast lies at the high end of the
model guidance in best agreement with the hurricane regional models.
Milton is still a relatively compact hurricane, but the wind field
is expected to continue to grow in size as it approaches Florida.
In fact, the official forecast shows the hurricane and
tropical-storm-force winds roughly doubling in size by the time it
makes landfall. Therefore, damaging winds, life-threatening storm
surge, and heavy rainfall will extend well outside the forecast
cone. It is worth emphasizing that this is a very serious situation
and residents in Florida should closely follow orders from their
local emergency management officials. Milton has the potential to
be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central
Florida.
Key Messages:
Damaging hurricane-force winds and a life-threatening storm surge
with destructive waves are expected across portions of the northern
coast of the Yucatan Peninsula today.
Milton is expected to grow in size and remain an extremely
dangerous hurricane when it approaches the west coast of Florida on
Wednesday. A large area of destructive storm surge will occur along
parts of the west coast of Florida. This is an extremely
life-threatening situation and residents in those areas should
follow advice given by local officials and evacuate immediately if
told to do so.
Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of
the west coast of Florida, where a Hurricane Warning is in effect.
Milton is forecast to remain a hurricane as it crosses the Florida
Peninsula and life-threatening hurricane-force winds, especially in
gusts, are expected to spread inland across the peninsula.
Preparations to protect life and property in the warning areas
should be complete by tonight.
Areas of heavy rainfall will continue to impact portions of
Florida well ahead of Milton through early Thursday. This rainfall
brings the risk of life-threatening flash, urban and aerial
flooding along with moderate to major river flooding. Flooding will
be exacerbated in areas where coastal and inland flooding combine to
increase the overall threat.
Denmark's succdem-led right-wing regime intends to clamp down on the right express pro-Palestinian and anti-apartheid views. A new bill proposed by the regime that is likely to pass Denmark's rubber-stamp parliament will slap a statutory extra 50% on top of the punishment for "hate crimes" committed at protests or public meetings. In addition, the police will be enabled to unilaterally declare a nationwide "increased punishment period" during which the penalty for any so-called "hate crimes" will be increased by 50%.
Free expression on the internet is also in the crosshairs of the regime's authoritarian measures. If the bill passes the police will be empowered to demand the removal of any "terrorism-related" material from social media, online media or websites. Service providers will only be given one hour to comply, there is no system of appeals and the current requirement for a judge to sign off on the censorship will be removed, effectively giving the police unchecked powers to remove any material that crosses the regime.
The bill itself is written in abstract legal terms normally used for hate crimes but the regime makes no attempt to hide that the intent is to punish and suppress the movement against apartheid, genocide and zionism. The only example given by the succdem-controlled ministry of justice for when the new powers would be used are so-called "antisemitic hate crimes" relating to the Al-Aqsa Flood.
The regime has consistently been equating anti-zionism with antisemitism. In the remarks to the bills the regime writes that it is intended to suppres so-called antisemitism "generated by a disdain for the state of 'Israel'".
EDIT: Interesting. They call the Oct 7 action "preemptive". I can't recall exactly how this has been documented over the last year, but I suspect this means Hamas had good intel telling them that Israel's escalation of the genocide that's happening over the last year was going to happen anyway. We should perhaps work on analyzing this and making it clear where/if true. On some level we've, of course, known that Israel was just looking for an excuse to flatten Gaza. But solid evidence of that that we could shove in liberals' faces would be pretty cool. It undermines the "but, but, but was it WORTH IT?!" argument.
EDIT: LOL. I posted and stickied this in /r/BreadTube. Then I cross-posted it to /r/Palestine, who removed it, citing "Reddit's Content Policy, Reddiquette, and Moderator Code of Conduct". Sorry, but: fucking cowards! (They also removed a video of a rally by Jill Stein, Worker's Strike Back, and Abandon Harris about opposing electoral support for genocide, but w/e.)
it seems the DPRK is cutting all roads to the south. Some are saying this precludes invasion but why would you blow up the roads leading to the place you're invading? Seems to be a defensive measure.
BREAKING: Some top House Democrats won't commit to certifying a Trump unless the result was “a fair, free election”, per Axios
Representative Raskin told Axios in an interview that if Trump "won a free, fair and honest election, then we would obviously accept it." He was asked if he assumes a Trump victory would be free, fair and honest, however, Raskin said: "I definitely don't assume that.” Raskin added that: "Democrats don't engage in election fraud and election fabrication."
What is this I keep seeing about Russia wanting to put DPRK soldiers in Ukraine. Is there any truth to that, or is it just the West spreading Fake News because the DPRK is sending observers to the front?
Will Gaza being completely destroyed and covered in debris which will take decades to clean up mean remaining Palestinians be forced out of there (by blocking construction materials) once this ethnic cleansing campaign ends?
Norm is pessimistic but I don't think he is completely wrong.
The Nobels are being awarded and both physics and chemistry prize have gone to AI related breakthroughs.
The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to two scientists, Geoffrey Hinton and John Hopfield, for their work on machine learning.
Demis Hassabis and John Jumper of DeepMind and computational biologist David Baker share prize for protein structure breakthroughs
The chemistry one was very obvious that it would be eventually awarded for the development of AlphaFold. But the physics one has come as surprise for many, and it is controversial among physicists.
I'm watching the series "Big Love". A scene made me sigh because it's so much at lib efforts to downplay the genocide in Gaza and now the expanded war in Lebanon. Libs continue to demand people don't trust their own eyes and trust lib rhetoric and nonsense instead. The libs are stuck because with each passing day the evidence piles up but they are heavily invested in their pretense so they sound crazier and crazier.
Bill Paxton plays a polygamist with three wives who is also named Bill. He's an expert at hiding reality. People think he has only one wife. One of his employees confides something to him. She suspects his business partner and best friend to be a polygamist. This is a dangerous situation for Bill. The future of his friend's family, his family, and their business could be at stake.
She must be convinced that what she knows to be true is wrong. They are sitting in his office. Bill calls her accurate accusations "unsavory". Then stands up to show her the conversation is over and he shuts her down.
"But I know what I saw."
"What you saw was an action. But you didn't necessarily see the label you're putting on it."
Oil companies are very angry at this bill now headed for a vote in the California assembly. There are anti-ABX2-1 advertisements all over, which seems unusual for something that isn't a proposition being put to voters, and the Chevron gas station nearest to me has big signs at every pump saying that California lawmakers are conspiring to raise prices at the pump - scan the QR code to fight back! (Or, you know, drivers could go to the gas station one block away, the one that isn't Chevron and is always at least 30 cents cheaper per gallon.)
The pressure campaign appears to be working, at least somewhat, as multiple Democratic assemblyschmucks have withdrawn support and several abstained in the State Senate committee vote that passed today. Since it's "Newom's bill" he might not veto it. Or will he? Certainly sounds like something he'd do. Stay tuned?
Palestine’s ambassador in Moscow, Abdel Hafeez Nofal, said on 26 August that Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas had received an invitation from President Vladimir Putin to attend the upcoming BRICS summit.
“We received an invitation from President Putin to President Abbas, and he was invited to participate in the BRICS summit prior to the invitation [to visit Russia] … but we will see if the prime minister will participate,” Nofal said. “The most important thing is that we [Palestinian representatives] will participate in this event,” he added.
The ambassador said Abbas and Putin have a good relationship with one another and can meet at any time.
“After our first participation in the BRICS summit, we will send a request to join this association,” Nofal revealed.
He also said that Putin promised Abbas that the upcoming BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan, scheduled for October 2024, will include a session dedicated primarily to Palestine.
Old article, but with the BRICS summit in Russia approaching (22–24 Oct), I need to hear what (if anything) my fellow newsmega heads expect will come from this.
Interesting piece on Phenomenal World: Adaptation in the Sanctioned Economy: Domestic manufacturing, overcapacity, and the limits of Iran’s economic resilience , it shows how despite the belief that sanctions resilience is entirely a matter of state capacity and state policy Iran's private sector actually invested a TON to fill the space left by foreign manufactured products, like washing machines, to the point where they're even building too much of this stuff so the government can be faulted for not influencing these sectors to allocate capital appropriately.
Also interesting is how these big private firms believe that they can actually do well in the sanctions environment, so they lobby the government AGAINST lifting import bans even if economic sanctions are also lifted, so there's another point against the american sanctions regime as a useful behavior changing tool even by its own terms.
Today marks 25th years since portuguese communist writer Jose Saramago won the Nobel prize in literature, don't know if they ever gave the award to anyone else as based as him but it's pretty cool. I've read a few of his books in audio form they're very interesting
Here's a quote from when he visited Palestine
During the Second Intifada, while visiting Ramallah in March 2002, Saramago said that "what is happening in Palestine is a crime we can put on the same plane as what happened at Auschwitz ... A sense of impunity characterizes the Israeli people and its army. They have turned into rentiers of the Holocaust." In an essay he wrote expanding on his views, Saramago wrote of Jews: "educated and trained in the idea that any suffering that has been inflicted . . . on everyone else . . . will always be inferior to that which they themselves suffered in the Holocaust, the Jews endlessly scratch their own wound to keep it bleeding, to make it incurable, and they show it to the world as if it were a banner."
I stopped paying attention to the presidential elections for obvious reasons, apparently the current story is that Trump is promising to unleash the alien and sedition act to round up foreigners. Due to American being a common law country, we may have camps by next christmas.

MiddleEastEye, a news agency which some might have mistakenly saw as pro-Resistance because of its pro-Palestine publishings have just published an exclusive article claiming this:
Esmail Qaani, the leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force, is alive and unhurt but under guard and being questioned as Iran investigates major security breaches, multiple sources have told Middle East Eye.
Qaani has not been seen in public since Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a massive air strike on Beirut on 27 September, an event that rocked the anti-Israel Axis of Resistance alliance.
Ten sources in Tehran, Beirut and Baghdad, including senior Shia figures and sources close to Hezbollah and in the IRGC, told MEE that even Qaani, one of Iran’s most senior generals, and his team are under lockdown as investigators seek answers.
This graph shows annual expenditure by the american federal government on debt interest service and how it's more than doubled since 2020. 2020 saw a good amount of additional debt for covid relief, but much more important, the interest rate has spiked since then. all this money goes somewhere, to bond holders, which tend to be the same capitalist interests that own the vast majority of shit. recall that in 2008, under obama, TARP funding was a "one time" dump of $700b. in effect, the increase in interest servicing since 2020 is an annual TARP sized amount of funding that is now baked into the system because of higher interest rates. @xiaohongshu@hexbear.net has posted about this kind of thing before I believe
The Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said the Republic of Korea (ROK) sent drones that flew into the capital Pyongyang in what it called a "political and military provocation," a statement carried by state media KCNA said on Friday.
At the direction of the President, Secretary Austin authorized the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery and associated crew of U.S. military personnel to Israel to help bolster Israel's air defenses following Iran's unprecedented attacks against Israel on April 13 and again on October 1. The THAAD Battery will augment Israel's integrated air defense system. This action underscores the United States' ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel, and to defend Americans in Israel, from any further ballistic missile attacks by Iran. It is part of the broader adjustments the U.S. military has made in recent months, to support the defense of Israel and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and Iranian-aligned militias.
Hopefully, whatever new technology Iran has been teasing accounts for this - it isnt the first time US has deployed THAAD to Israel.

Based on Islamic principles, the construction and use of nuclear weapons and WMDs are not permissible.
However, if it becomes necessary to safeguard the lives of Muslims.
And the Iranian people, the Islamic Republic of Iran would undoubtedly reconsider its stance on the development of its nuclear industry and take the required actions
So this week I've been dealing with a fucking $$ettler KKKolonialist virus that was trying to colonize my body and commit genocide on all of my body cells. Thankfully the Resistance (my immune system) fought them off. However, since I am left a coughing mess afterwards, and am still in pain, who's to say the virus really lost? Maybe causing me immense pain after the infection was the virus's true goal all along, and my immune system didn't actually win despite purging the virus from my body.
Anyways back to the point, has there been any major news since then? Are Israeli ground troops still getting torn up in Lebanon?

In US electoral politics News, a new IPSOS poll has dropped. IPSOS polls are some of the most credible and unbiased globally, they were quite accurate in the recent South African elections and correctly predicted that Jacob Zuma's MK party would take a large share of the EFF vote.
Washington, D.C., October 13, 2024— New ABC News/Ipsos polling finds Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are locked in a statistical tie among likely voters. However, among all Americans, Trump outperforms Harris on key issues, like the economy, inflation, and immigration, while Harris maintains her advantage on abortion and protecting American democracy. The majority of Americans support many of the economic policies that Harris and Trump have proposed. Lowering corporate income taxes is the only policy that a majority of Americans oppose.
Interesting notes: Harris only has an advantage on abortion, protecting democracy and looking out for middle class interests. Trump has an advantage on every other issue, and his largest advantage on immigration. Harris has her lowest positive on the conflict in the middle east, and the highest amount of neither votes is also there. Harris' largest advantage is on abortion, which is the largest advantage of all the issues.
There's been a perfect example of Pre-Privatization and liberal hypocrisy in Portugal this week.
So we got a new center-right PSD government earlier this year, this week during a "Future of Media" conference the prime minister announced that RTP, the national public broadcaster, will gradually no longer have advertising on it until the total removal of ads in 2027, which would mean it would lose 6.6 million euros in revenue in the next 3 years.
Now, in theory, this could free up the channel from commercial influence and market shit, in practice all this means is that in a few years there are gonna be EVEN MORE calls to fully privatize RTP because it's not making any money.
This is functionally the same as when Orban takes over the public broadcaster or some shit, because once RTP is sold to some media conglomerate, it's obviously going to shift right, and serve its funders' interests, but of course there's not a peep from EU institutions about this.
And it's not like RTP today is some leftist or even center-leftist institution, for example in the news segments (the "telejornal") there's been plenty of "Passive Voice" shit when reporting about Palestine, and they have some pretty shitty anchors and guests too. But at the same time there's a lot of series, documentaries (both left and right) and cultural products that just would not get funded on other channels, if RTP gets privatized we'd see even less portuguese cultural production.
Funnily enough at the same conference, the PM also asked for journalists to be "more tranquil" and then complained that journalists ask him questions that they hear in their earpieces instead of asking what they want, which he's being made fun of for (not by me though, because I genuinely hate journalists)
Should mention that on the whole the RTP has like a bunch of channels and radio stations, and also turned a profit last year while the big private media channels didn't

The Russian Federation will begin a strategic offensive along the entire front in the coming days, according to former adviser to the Ukrainian Presidential Office Alexei Arestovich.
"The Russians are building up strike groups. They will attack along the entire front, from Zaporozhye to Kupyansk. They are preparing a strategic offensive. It's a matter of days," he wrote.
It's Arestovich, so take with a big grain of salt.
Now would be a weird time to do big arrow offensives, considering the imminent muddy season. If Russia attacks, I think it will be relatively small, to shape the front line for larger offensives in 2025.
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega instructed the Foreign Ministry to comply with a National Assembly’s request calling to break diplomatic relations with Israel, according to the information provided on Friday by Vice President Rosario Murillo, Coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council.
Murillo recalled that this morning there was an important session in the Nicaraguan parliament, of repudiation of the “fascist, genocidal government of Israel”, and explained that the break is with the Israeli people, because as peoples, as a human family “we love and respect each other in all communities of the world”.
The vice president said that “Israel which is applying extermination policies against large, brave, courageous, worthy peoples, with whom we have always been fraternal, applying war crimes” so they break relations with the government but “never with the families and people of Israel.”
In this regard, Murillo highilghted that Nicaragua “do not subordinate ourselves to the imperialists of the earth, and see impassive genocide, the intention to exterminate struggling peoples, fighters for justice, for truth, for rights.”
“Policies of extreme hatred, the cruelty in sight and impatience of the whole world, policies of genocide, of unpunished extermination, how incredible! And what are these so-called international organizations for?” questioned the vice president, Rosario Murillo.
This morning the National Assembly of Nicaragua held a special session on “Solidarity with the People of Palestine” in which the President of the National Assembly, Gustavo Porras, read out a declaration of condemnation that was approved by the plenary of the Assembly asking “Respectfully to the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity to value the rupture of diplomatic relations with the Genocidal and Zionist Government of Benjamin Netanyahu”.
After facing a wave of assassinations, Hezbollah has revived its military organization. Now Hezbollah's war machine has started and difficult days are ahead for the Zionists.
Middle East Eye: a newspaper that publishes exclusively in English, operates out of the UK, (presumably) financed by Qatar, has definitely never ever spread anti-Resistance lies before (trust us we're "pro Palestine" 😉), somehow has inside IRGC sources to give reports about Ismail Qaani?
Denmark's succdem-led right-wing regime is raising military expenditure for the third time in two years. The reason cited is ever-increasinsing demands from NATO for military buildup.
In 2023 Denmark's rubber-stamp parliament voted through an extra USD 21 bln. to be spent on rearmament over the next decade. In the spring the regime added an extra DKK 6 bln. to military spending. This comes on top of regular military spending and in a decade, each of Denmark's six million citizens will have splurged USD 4500 on death and destruction.
It is not possible to tell how much military expenditure is going to rise as a result of the upcoming round of spending as the regime refuses to answer any questions on the scale of the spending plans. However, messages given by the political elite are near-unanimous in their support for fully acquiescing to every demand from their NATO overlords.
The people, lacking access to a free press, are beset by paranoia and jingoism induced by NATO propaganda and support the the policy. In a recent poll 49% of respondents expressed support for the extravagant military expenditure, only 13% expressed a desire for disarmament and de-escalation.
Seems like breakthrough news finally learned about greater israel, I recommend watching it specifically at the 1:02 mark for potential settler locations in occupied southern lebanon. I don't think Israel is going to make a lasting deal with far right maronites this time.
Danish fascist leader Morten Messerschmidt has been charged with hate speech due to a racist propaganda graphic that he posted to X, the everything app (formerly Twitter) in reaction to the Al-Aqsa Flood last year.
In 2002 Messerschmidt was given a suspended sentence for publishing the same graphic as delivery leader of a fascist youth organisation. He claims to be surprised about getting in trouble with the law for doing the same thing that got him in trouble with the law before and hints at a "political" conspiracy involving the local chief of police and nebulous actors "higher up" being behind the charges.
The graphic itself has two images next to eachother. The first image is a group of happy white girls subtitled "Denmark today". The next image features two figures with their faces hidden by black baclavas with red headbands. Each figure is holding a Qur'an in his hand. Their clothes are smeared in red paint, which is supposed to look like blood. The second image is subtitled "Denmark in ten years".
For those too slow to get the message, the point is driven home in big alarming red letters under the images: "Mass R*pes - Aggravated Assault - Insecurity - Forced Marriages - Oppression of Women - Gang Crime", and further below "This is what a multiethnic society has to offer us"
The graphic is best described as "Der Stürmer with 1990's small business flyer aesthetics". I have included it below so you can see how fucked the vibes are (I'll be happy to remove it if someone requests it), proceed with caution, it is absolutely horrible in every way imaginable.
CW: Racist dreck
Messerschmidt calls the charges an attack on freeze peach and claims that "today everyone can see that what we have written about immigration politics was true" and he goes on to postulate that he "has yet to meet someone who doesn't agree that immigration from the Middle East has led to more insecurity, oppression of women, terrorism and so on".
Messerschmidt himself and his fascist party are treated as serious and legitimate political actors by news media and all other parties in parliament. The party has had a disproportionately large influence over the construction of Danish state racism.

“Invitations were sent to 38 states,” Ushakov said during a press conference, referring to the high-level summit to be held in Kazán.
Thirty-Two countries confirm participation in the BRICS summit, that will take place in Kazan, Russia. The event aims to promote multilaterism and development among emerging economies.
Russian presidential advisor Uri Ushakov announced on Thursday that 32 nations have confirmed their participation in the upcoming BRICS summit.
This year, the event will take place in the Russian city of Kazan from October 22 to 24, under the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Global Development and Security.”
“Invitations were sent to 38 states,” Ushakov said during a press conference, referring to the high-level summit to be held in the aforementioned city.
“Of course, this includes both member countries and those wishing to cooperate with our organization. About 32 countries have already confirmed their participation,” the advisor added.
He emphasized that all member countries have confirmed their attendance at the summit. “Additionally, nine of them will be at the highest level, and one country, Saudi Arabia, will send a foreign minister.”
Ushakov also mentioned the possibility that the summit could become the largest foreign policy event held in Russia, given the interest it generates among states pursuing an independent foreign policy.
He stated that invitations were also extended to those states presiding over regional integration associations in Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Notable attendees include United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Dilma Rousseff, president of the New Development Bank of BRICS.
The summit will be divided into two segments: a meeting of BRICS member countries (October 22 and the morning of October 23) and then a BRICS+/reach meeting (afternoon of October 23 and morning of October 24), under the theme “BRICS and the Global South: Building a Better World Together.”
In August 2023, the bloc, originally composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, decided to expand and welcomed Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia.
Regarding this expansion, Ushakov clarified in the press conference that the number of countries wanting to become BRICS members or cooperate with them in various ways is growing.
Currently, the BRICS also includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. On Monday, the Director of General Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Carlos Pereira, announced that his country had requested to join BRICS+.
“Cuba has officially requested its incorporation into BRICS as a ‘partner country’ through a letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who holds the presidency of a group that is consolidating itself as a key player in global geopolitics and a hope for the Global South countries,” Pereira stated.
During an interview with the TASS agency, Russia’s ambassador to Cuba, Victor Koronelli, confirmed Cuba’s request and recalled that Cuban representatives have already participated in several multidisciplinary events within the BRICS framework over the past year.
He also mentioned that Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has been invited to participate in BRICS Plus/Outreach, a meeting that will take place during the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan.
At the 2023 BRICS Summit, Cuba was invited as the pro tempore president of the Group of 77 + China. On that occasion, Cuban representatives advocated for enhancing synergies and effective coordination between BRICS and the G77.
Additionally, Cuba also defended respect for the United Nations Charter and urged the establishment of a new, more stable, predictable, and diversified international monetary order.
Formed in 2010, BRICS is an economic cooperation group that emerged as an initiative by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Since 2024, this group has included 10 countries, among them Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
I got my first dose of 3 HPV vaccines a couple weeks ago. Body tolerated it well. Little soreness at the injection site for a few days. Got the insurance statement for it. Holy shit! I mean they covered it, but absolutely ridiculous how much they gouge. $60 to poke me and $500 for the shot itself.
They say 95% of insurance carriers cover it. So I would recommend everyone not allergic to get it. Basically a broad cancer vaccine. Totally not every thing but like half a dozen common viruses that are known to cause cancer - yes please.
Gustavo Petro denounced that the investigation into electoral expenses seeks to pave the way to a soft coup d’état.
On Wednesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her solidarity with Colombian President Gustavo Petro regarding the injustice of the National Electoral Council (CNE) opening an investigation and filing charges against his 2022 presidential campaign for alleged irregular expenses.
“I want to publicly express our solidarity with President Petro. Two years after the elections, the CNE opened an investigation into campaign expenses. He called this action a coup,” she said at the start of her morning press conference.
Previously, the Colombian electoral authorities considered that Petro, his campaign manager Ricardo Roa, and other members of his team should be held accountable for the alleged violation of campaign financing rules, as the CNE suspects they exceeded spending limits and resorted to prohibited sources.
The Mexican progressive leader supported President Petro’s argument that the CNE investigation process was opened outside of Colombian constitution and law.
“So, our solidarity with President Petro. He is practically the only progressive president Colombia has had. We always stand by our support and solidarity. Our policy is to speak out whenever there is an injustice,” the Mexican president said.
On Wednesday, Petro claimed that CNE President Cesar Lorduy set a trap for him to be removed from office using false evidence. While the CNE does not have the authority to decide whether or not the Colombian president should leave office, that institution “opened the door by formulating charges in an unconstitutional manner. It is a prevarication that seeks to unleash a parliamentary coup,” Petro stated.
Approved with seven votes in favor and two against, the resolution of the Colombian CNE marks the first time an electoral tribunal in this South American country has formally opened an investigation into a presidential campaign for exceeding spending limits.

Could someone please help me analyze this Foreign Policy article about China allegedly occupying a significant part of Bhutan? There's a lot of stones thrown in this article at China, I can't even find on usually anti-Chinese Wikipedia. Article once misleadingly mentions "Tibetans" but it seems it's talking about the few percent of "free-Tibet" crowd. China and Bhutan don't even have their borders defined, but article suggest that China is invading Bhutan, etc... Thanks.
I found this amazing piece of state propaganda that I simply have to share. It was brought as a follow-up to a story about Denmark sending a staff officer to the US Pacific Fleet as the small Nordic kingdom is being drawn into American aggression against China.
The first article mentioned a poll showing that a majority of the population is against taking part in anti-Chinese provocations. This "analysis" is intended to explain to the unwashed masses why it is a good thing.

If Russia is a small ripple on the ocean, then China is a storm on the horizon.
That is the security policy analysis of the world, seen from Washington, USA.
Americans view China, and especially its actions in the Indo-Pacific region, as a much larger, long-term challenge to American interests and the rules-based world order than Russia currently poses.
This is the power struggle between major powers that the Danish staff officer in Hawaii will be reporting on to the Danish Defense Command on Holmens Kanal.

NATO, the military alliance, largely agrees.
After recent summits, the alliance's leaders have issued statements describing China's growing military power and ambitions as something that needs to be addressed.
To do this, the U.S. will need to fully mobilize its military reserves and move nearly all its assets to the Pacific region.
This means that at some point, Europe can expect to be left more alone with Russia than it is now, as the U.S. still has a significant military presence on the continent.
Many believe that the slow pace of European military buildup is worrying for this exact reason.
Putin just has to wait patiently for the powerful U.S. to leave the scene. This will pull the rug out from under deterrence efforts, and once again, there will be room for balalaika.
That’s the analysis.
A Russian challenge, which in itself is a handful for Europe, but the abyss is even deeper than that.
Approximately 1,100 Danish soldiers are deployed. Here's where Danish soldiers are now:
Kosovo: Danish soldiers have supported the international peace effort in Kosovo since 1999 in the NATO-led KFOR operation. Currently, the Home Guard is handling the mission.
Latvia: Since August 2024, Danish soldiers have been in Latvia, contributing to securing NATO's eastern flank, with around 800 Danish troops involved in NATO's defense of the Baltic countries.
Baltic Sea: Denmark continuously contributes to NATO naval forces, which have increased their readiness and vigilance in the Baltic Sea and North Atlantic due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Danish Challenger aircraft also patrol the area.
United Kingdom: After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Denmark expanded its support to Ukraine, including training Ukrainian soldiers and pilots in the UK.
Mediterranean: Denmark contributes to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), monitoring Europe's external borders in Italy, Spain, and Greece.
Middle East: Since 1948, Danish soldiers have helped maintain the ceasefire between Israel and several of its neighbors. As the situation in the region has evolved, so have the tasks of Danish soldiers.
Iraq: Denmark contributes to NATO's advisory mission in Iraq and the international coalition that has supported Iraq in the fight against ISIL since 2014.
Other parts of the world: There are also a few Danish personnel deployed elsewhere, including in Africa, the U.S., and Korea.
'Quid Pro Quo'
The U.S. expects Denmark and other European countries to help with the Chinese challenge in the Pacific as well.
The idea is that the signal of a united Western world standing shoulder to shoulder and saying "this far and no further" is stronger than just another wagging finger from the U.S., which Russia, Iran, and North Korea already find quite lame.
The U.S. and NATO are, of course, Denmark's primary security guarantees. Two strong allies in a cold and turbulent schoolyard.
So Denmark naturally sends a staff officer to Honolulu if the U.S. wants it. Quid pro quo.
In the video below, Commander and Head of the Planning Department of the Defense Operations Staff Kristian Haumann explains the role of the staff officer in Hawaii.

Denmark Still in the Parking Lot
In the long run, it's expected that the desk-bound soldier will be replaced by more combat-ready contributions, such as a frigate, aircraft, or even special operations forces.
This leaves Denmark in an incredibly difficult position. After decades of budget cuts, the rebuilding of the military is just beginning. But the nearly 200 billion extra kroner earmarked through 2032 is almost entirely spent.
And Denmark hasn’t made significant progress on what NATO expects it to be able to do in the Baltics, the Arctic, and the North Atlantic.
If it were a DIY project, Denmark wouldn’t have gotten further than the parking lot of the hardware store by now.
On top of that, Denmark is expected to contribute to deterrence in the Indo-Pacific in the future.
This is a theater where significant demands are placed on military equipment.
Many Danes are impressed by China's electric cars and gadgets. However, China is unlikely to be impressed by a Danish frigate that can’t shoot.
The same goes for the U.S., which expects its allies to be able to participate in so-called 'multi-domain operations.'

In short, this means that everything capable of shooting, crawling, and operating in cyberspace, space, land, sea, and air must be able to communicate and work together.
Obviously, this is incredibly expensive. It’s also clear that Denmark is not yet able to play that game.
Danish Staff Officer to Hawaii
The U.S. Pacific Fleet has its headquarters in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Danish staff officer is appointed for three years, with the option for an additional year.
INDOPACOM, the Pacific Fleet, employs 375,000 personnel from all branches of the U.S. military.
The Pacific Fleet’s area of responsibility is vast—it covers about half of the Earth's surface, stretching from the U.S. West Coast all the way to the Indian Ocean.
The Danish staff officer will network and report back to Denmark but will be under U.S. leadership.
Colombia: The former magistrate of the National Electoral Council, Luis Guillermo Perez assured that the "Uribista" magistrates investigated by the Supreme Court of Justice could be condemned due to the evidence existing against them.
Far-right forces have been pushing for the destabilization of Colombia by delegitimizing President Gustavo Petro
During an interview on teleSUR on Wednesday, journalist Luis Alfonso Mena denounced that the Colombian elites are orchestrating a coup d’état against President Gustavo Petro.
“The process that the National Electoral Council (CNE) started against President Petro is not only unconstitutional and illegal but also absolutely untimely,” he said, referring to an investigation opened into alleged irregularities in the financing of the presidential campaign.
“The law sets a 30-day deadline to file complaints or claims about this type of irregularity, The far-right coup plotters have been pushing for the destabilization of Colombia by delegitimizing Petro’s administration,” Mena pointed out, recalling that over two years have passed since Petro took office.
He also recalled that the Constitutional Court has struck down numerous laws from the Petro administration aimed at addressing significant issues, such as the social emergency in the department of La Guajira.
Regarding President Petro’s options to confront the coup attempt, Colombian human rights defender Luis Emil Sanabria said there are three alternatives: resolving the dispute through legal procedures, appealing to international treaties and institutions, and mobilizing citizens in support of his administration.
Sanabria also believes that the Supreme Court should issue a ruling on the CNE investigation to prevent the Colombian elites from continuing to discredit the president’s administration. “The struggle is between the old power of the reactionary right and the new power being built by social democracy and the Colombian left,” he said.
On Tuesday, CNE President Cesar Lorduy opened a formal investigation into President Petro. The electoral authorities believe that Petro, his campaign manager Ricardo Roa, and other members of his team should be held accountable for the alleged violation of campaign financing rules, as the CNE suspects they exceeded spending limits and resorted to prohibited sources.
Lokomotiv faced off against SKA Saint Petersburg and lost 4-3 in overtime after a close run match. SKA took the lead in the first period and held it into the second, Lokomotiv managed to tie it up in the third but wasn't able to seal the deal in overtime.
Lokomotiv next plays Kunlun Red Star on Wednesday October 9th at 7:30pm Moscow Standard Time.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has denounced the country’s former vice president Germán Vargas Lleras and the former prosecutor general, Néstor Humberto Martínez, as accomplices of the coup that is being carried out against him.
“This strategy was explicitly proposed by Néstor Humberto Martínez (…) and Germán Vargas Lleras. We are facing a coup d’état based on false evidence”, the president stressed in his X account.
Petro has pointed out that the National Electoral Council of Colombia “does not have the competence to demand that he leave (his presidential functions)”, however, clarifies the president, it has been given way to formulate “unconstitutional positions”.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has also declared support for Petro.
I can think of a a few reasons they would do this. Bhutan is an Indian vassal (although less so now than in the past) so this could put pressure on India to resolve their (China's and India's) border dispute. India has repeatedly refused very advantageous (for India) solutions like the Package Deal, proposed by China multiple times since 1960, where China gets Aksai Chin (with a civilian population of 0 and an area of 38,000 km2) and India gets Arunachal Pradesh (with a population of 1.4 million and an area of 83,743 km2).
Another reason could be to pressure Bhutan directly for a number of reasons. It could be to get Bhutan to recognize China as a country, which it hasn't done since the founding of the PRC (it doesn't recognize the RoC either). It could be to get Bhutan to stop dragging it's feet (in general it seems that feet-dragging is the default mode of operation of the Bhutanese government) with actually settling the border, which it has also never done. It could also be to get Bhutan to officially give up their claims on their former enclaves inside China, of which there are many, mostly in Tibet but iirc there are a few in other provinces (India also has at least one that it hasn't given up claims on).
I wrote most of this from memory and I'm not super well read on the topic so there are probably some inaccuracies.
What a nailbiter of a game! Kunlun Red Star came out of the gates strong scoring the first goal in the first period and widening their lead early in the second with another goal! Lokomotiv wasn't deterred, scoring once late in the second and managing to tie it up in the last few minutes of the third! The railwaymen must've built up a good head of steam because they were quick to end it in overtime, scoring almost immediately to bring the final score to 3-2 in Lokomotiv's favor!
Lokomotiv next plays HC Sochi on October 12 at 5pm Moscow Standard Time
Lokomotiv beat HC Sochi 2-1 in a surprisingly close game! I actually managed to watch this one (thank you Russian bootleg streams!), Lokomotiv had really good puck control and spent much of the game in Sochi's zone but only managed 2 goals. Sochi made a good effort to tie it up at the end but wasn't quite able to tie it up!
Lokomotiv next plays Vityaz on Monday, October 14 at 7:30 pm Moscow Standard Time
Chinese equity markets have had a wild ride. Major indices surged by more than 30 per cent in the two weeks following Beijing’s September 24 economic stimulus announcement. They then fell back on fears that the stimulus might fall short.
Most likely, the markets will regain momentum once the Ministry of Finance reveals details of new fiscal spending at a press briefing on Saturday. Which sentiment is closer to the truth: euphoria or despair?
The answer is, neither. Markets were right to see the stimulus announcement as an inflection point and an opportunity to venture back into oversold Chinese assets. But they misjudged the underlying intent, which is to stabilise the economy rather than generate a major reacceleration. And they underestimated the constraints on stimulus imposed by Xi Jinping’s long-run strategy and by policymakers’ desire not to repeat past errors.
Xi’s strategic aims have not changed. He wants to shift capital from the property sector into technology-intensive manufacturing, which he sees as the basis of China’s future prosperity and power. Long-term economic growth, he believes, is driven by investment in technology, which will eventually generate high-wage jobs and rising incomes. China’s core task is not to maximise GDP growth but to create a self-sufficient, technologically powerful economy immune to efforts by the US to stunt its rise.
This programme is cogent as a national strategy, but unfriendly to financial investors. The emphasis on investment means that supply will always run ahead of demand, leading to deflationary pressure, which is bad for corporate profits. Even the favoured high-tech sectors face intense competition that will erode margins.
Xi has not retreated from this vision, but has accepted a change of tactics. The stimulus decision was driven by poor economic data including a sharp deterioration in manufacturing sales and employment, a chorus of criticism from Chinese economists, and the rising risk of protectionism against China’s exports. Short-run stabilisation is needed in order for the long-run plan to succeed. But measures will be rolled out carefully to avoid what policymakers believe were damaging mistakes in previous stimulus episodes.
One such “mistake” was the big infrastructure programme of 2008-09, which helped China recover quickly from the global financial crisis, but also began the pile-up of local-government debt, which rose from almost nothing 15 years ago to nearly 80 per cent of GDP today, including the liabilities of off-balance sheet financing vehicles. Another was Beijing’s cheerleading of a stock market bubble in 2015, which saw the CSI 300 double in a little over six months and then give up almost all its gains in two months.
Xi’s government is now determined not to overstimulate the real economy, nor to inflate another stock market bubble. The economic aims are to stabilise growth and prevent deflation from tightening its grip. The market goal is to restore enough confidence so that equity prices post steady, moderate rises. This will reopen the window for new listings and enable the stock market to resume its assigned role of financing China’s industrial policy ambitions.
This could work: Chinese policymakers have many tools, and Xi is finally allowing them to be used. But there is no evidence of a shift from the key policies undergirding Xi’s long-term vision: central control of finance and capital allocation, a tight rein on the property market, and prioritisation of investment over consumption.
Direct fiscal stimulus through the issuance of ultra long-term government bonds, if large enough, should boost growth and ward off deflation. But this new debt will refinance some local debt and subsidise households and businesses to trade in old appliances and equipment for new. Its function is to make investment more effective, not to give consumer demand a bigger role.
Similarly, the recapitalisation of the six largest state-owned banks will let them take on more risk despite record-low net interest margins. Yet it will also further entrench central control over the financial system and the allocation of capital. Mortgage deregulation will make it easier for cash-strapped families to buy houses, but does not reverse the basic decision to reduce property’s economic role.
In sum, the economy and financial returns are likely to pick up in the coming months. In the long run, though, China’s vision is unchanged: technology and self-sufficiency matter more than growth and profits.
Following up on my college football post from last week, its time for another important piece of college football news:
The time is currently 9:47 PM CST, and the University of Oklahoma still sucks!
This Saturday at 2:30 PM CST, the #1 University of Texas Longhorns will take on the #18 University of Oklahoma Sooners in the 119th Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fair in Dallas, TX. Originally called the Red River Shootout before a bunch of incel school shooters caused gatdang PC liberals to cancel that much cooler name, what many consider to be the best rivalry game in college sports will take place in a neutral stadium located almost completely equidistant between the two universities (its 9 miles closer to OU). Fans will show up Saturday morning, many still drunk from the night before, to continue drinking and eating corny dogs in front of a 55 foot tall animatronic Texan, hoping to cheer on their team to victory in a stadium split evenly down the middle between the two teams. Hopefully, the team named after the beautiful and majestic Texas Longhorn will defeat the team named after a bunch of filthy settlers who stole land from the Native Americans! The winner will get to take home the rivalry's trophy, the Golden Hat, a gold-plated 10-gallon cowboy hat, and the loser will get to throw up on the rides on the Midway after getting too drunk and filling their stomachs with some of this year's award winning foods (CW Meat) : the Dominican Fritura Dog, the Cotton Candy Bacon on a Stick, and the Texas Sugar Rush Pickles!
