Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion Thread

Previous Thread | Next Thread

It's a new week, which means a new general discussion thread. As the summer season is under way in earnest this week, here is your chance to talk about anything you want anime-related, even if it has nothing to do with the new shows. I have mostly been on vacation this past week, so I am going to live somewhat vicariously through your comments.

As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here (also linked in the sidebar).

  • I've not properly looked at this season yet, but I've started Suicide Squad Isekai and NieR Automata. SSI is kinda meh so far (seen 3 eps). Harley is really fun, but the rest is meh. Despite the anime look, it doesn't feel like it at all. Also, way too many references to other works of WB. NieR was a great start. Very interesting and despite having played the game, I find myself wondering where it's gonna go.

I do want to watch Senpai wa Otokonoko and the new Monogatari. I liked the webcomic for the former a lot and am curious how they're gonna handle it in the anime. The latter I will need to rewatch the entire Monogatari series first, so it might not be this season that I'll pick up it

  • There was a lot of news this past week due to Anime Expo happening. It has been some time since I last went to a major anime convention of any kind (basically since I was in grad school). My local convention (Anime Boston), has grown tons over the years.

When I last went, probably 10 years ago, it was clear that it had pretty much reached the capacity of the convention center they use. However, they continue to cram everybody into that same space every year. If they ever move up to the bigger convention center in town (where PAX East happens) I might give it another shot. Part of why I haven't been back is because it was so crowded that there wasn't anywhere to have any downtime.

Anyway, diversion aside, I haven't been able to watch too much this past week. Largely because I have been on vacation and the hotel internet is truly awful. What I have been able to watch was due to me abusing some local bar/restaurant wifi while having dinner to transfer some files from a server at home to my phone, then transfer those locally to my laptop to watch after my wife is asleep (she goes to be much earlier than I do). It's a mess, but it kinda got the job partially done. I have a newfound appreciation for my fiber connection at home from this trip.

    2. Reddit Karma - Weekly Winner: Mushoku Tensei

Credit to /u/Abysswatcherbel for making the chart for reddit karma.

Due to where exactly they draw the cutoff line between weeks, Mushoku Tensei hung on to win the past week over on reddit while not being eligible for the AC chart. Of the new shows for the summer, Oshi no Ko and Alya were top two, but in a different order. Other summer shows placing well include Pseudo Harem and Days With My Stepsister.

We will see how things shake out with more summer shows getting their start over the next week. Will we all become deer?
