Manga Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion Thread

Previous Thread | Next Thread

Hope everybody is enjoying April Fool's Day! To celebrate, why not talk about manga in a new weekly general thread? Like always, feel free to ask questions, provide recommendations, or rant about manga things.

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

  • With the anime season winding down this past week, I have been able to devote more time to other things, like manga. A couple things I took note of from my manga adventures this past week:

    • My Dear Aster - The final chapter of this posted. Overall, I am a big fan of this series, but my love is definitely impacted by some personal circumstances that enabled me to relate to this series a lot. Others might not like it as much, but it was a big hit for me.
    • Monmusugo! - I wrote about this series a couple weeks back and how suspiciosly similar to Campfire Cooking it was. Well, morbid curiosity got the better of me this week and I checked out the couple most recent chapters. Our MC is getting another traveling companion! You would never be able to guess this, but it turns out it is a slime! The parallels to Campfire Cooking continue...
    • Saikyou Juzoku Tensei Cheat Majutsushi no Slow Life - This is a series that I started reading years ago, but the translators dropped it. I since read the whole WN (it is completed). Now, after a 3-year gap, somebody picked it back up. It isn't the best story, but it is fun. I recommend the WN if the manga catches your interest.
    • Boku no Ma na Musume - This one is still pretty early (3 chapters), but it is about a young girl that is part human, part devil. Outwardly, she looks human, but when she gets lonely, things get pretty eldritch-horror pretty quickly. So, the single father has to try to make sure that his daughter is content. Think Usagi Drop or Spy X Family, but with a devilish twist.
    • Moto Saikyou Yuusha no Saishuushoku - This one is also early (3 chapters), but it has been a lot of fun. Basically, the former hero who slayed the Demon King has to come out of retirement when he runs out of money. However, the world's adventuring meta has changed a lot and now he has to adapt...but also he has a thing or two to teach the young'ins.
  • I should start posting my Tachiyomi history for these threads, so you can see how insane I am. 😅

    • The way I pick out the handful of series I list in these threads is simply scrolling back through my read history in Mihon and picking out any that stood out to me in some way. I wouldn't even want to try to list everything, and I know that I don't read nearly as much as some people.

      • Fair enough. Also, I checked out of curiosity and I had to scroll 74 times (I counted) before I reached the end of just one week. 😅
