The Ukainian team hast dropped out of this year's International Esports Federation DotA 2 World Championship in protest against the league's decision to lift it's ban on Russian players
This makes global news and puts real pressure on the International Esports Federation — the group actually capable of policing the bullies — to do their job.
This sucks, but is absolutely the correct play by the Ukrainian team.
By continuing to deny the regular Russian people the ability to participate in world events, sooner or later they start to question why and go looking for answers. Then you get a change in government.
In this very tournament there are no Russians at all, but it is important to make a mark.
I remember Virtus Pro, where in 2022 a Russian player drew a big Z on the minimap. The team was excluded, but was back in 2023 as if nothing had happened.
Sounds like that team in particular should be punished, and not an entire region of people. Counter-Strike has been getting along just fine with NaVi, Monte, Cloud9, Forze, Virtus.Pro, and a handful more all existing, and this is a game where teams can chat to each other back and forth during the game without viewers seeing it.
I root for whatever team isn't Russian nonetheless, but a blanket ban is pretty stupid tbh.
