This picture might as well have been in any one of the larger towns or any city.
Now days, in the USA, it could only happen in the larger cities, regardless of what the issues were about.
Bottom line is the internet online groups are no substitute for meetings at the Methodist church down the street, Willie’s pool hall, Sam’s grill, or the Pool club by 5th

Protests.
It’s my opinion anyway. I’ve seen the real world communities be less the past two generations. I know in my youth that’s how things were done to get the crowds out, and believe there is a missing mechanism in grassroots today in the USA

Can't speak as to every town, or hell, even the regularity of my own hometown, but when I was a young man (read: early 2010s), the K fucking KK decided they were going to show up for some reason or another at one of our historical buildings. I don't even remember which one, they're all clustered together. Anyway, the town went into an uproar about it on Facebook, organized a silent counterprotest. We all showed up there, deadly quiet except for the traffic backing up the tiny streets as everyone and their brother struggled to show up, and when the appointed time came, lo and behold! The KKK fuckers pussed out and didn't even show up.
So we spent the rest of the time having an impromptu grill instead, since it was a warm summer day.
It was a nice moment in a town that wasn't always all that functional.

That is a great story that inspires hope!
One of my friends had his dad killed at a rally decades ago, for protesting against them. So I am grateful they are much weaker now, almost a Boy Scout troop, far from the fear and mayhem they caused earlier.
Fortunately their replacements are as hampered by the changes in the times as anyone else
