Agreed. Hexbear especially is using trans people primarily as a shield against criticism. You will not find a community there.

You are simply lying, it is very easy to find a community in hexbear's trans spaces.
Their regular trans megathread is there right now if you'd like to partake instead of lying about trans people.

I’m unsure what happened here to spark this but the concern around Hexbear is genuine given they have had a longstanding history of abusive conduct towards others.

I don’t believe that Nate’s comments were in bad faith but were an attempt to warn that Hexbear isn’t all that it seems, and that appears to be the general MO which would put trans users in danger and at risk of harassment.
We may be wrong, and I do hope that the trans communities there are well-moderated, but it’s always not sat right that Hexbear admins ignore the conduct of their users.
Are you yet another cis person coming into trans spaces to fearmonger about other trans spaces and why certain trans people are 'the good ones'? Just wondering, because that would definitely be transphobia.
Rich of you fuckers to talk about brigading when you're deliberately sending other admins into this thread, likely from an admin chat. You don't even have pronouns displayed anywhere, which is the bare minimum for supporting trans people online and normalizing showing pronouns.
My pronouns are He / Him, I apologize, I don't typically use Lemmy except for moderation actions or watching subs that I follow, I've updated my profile to add them as you're right, it's incredibly useful for normalizing the use of pronouns and I proudly do so at work, on Telegram, and Discord, but forgot to here.
I didn't want to approach it except for raising the concern because I'm unsure and unaware, but I have had to address poor and toxic interactions with other Hexbear users outside of the community you mentioned. I don't want to gatekeep anyone from any communities, but I don't want to see people end up getting harassed as a result of negative interactions that seem to be readily apparent in other areas of Hexbear. I'm happy and hope to be wrong and that the community there you mentioned is safe, but I don't know, so have caution and want to present that.
Are you cis? And yes, they are safe and have done more things for trans people than you will ever do, and this concern trolling is ridiculous.

I also reached out to one of the admins for lemmy.blahaj.zone to make sure I didn't misrepresent their stance / view on Hexbear since I did mention them as well as other groups in my original comment. I don't want to fearmonger, I just don't want anyone to get hurt.
Whether you like them or not, they have very useful mutual aid groups that have funded a lot of HRT, rent, etc for trans people. One trans person got hit by a hurricane and needed assistance with rent for 2 months and it was paid in full. Without their help, that person would have been homeless.
