It’s worth watching and it’s a highlight of the Masters of Horror series…but it’s still an episode of Masters of Horror. Like the rest of the series, the episode still feels like an early 2000s TV production, so you lose out on a lot of the atmosphere that defines the best Carpenter films.
The only episode that doesn’t feel like it’s been slightly tarnished by time or budget constraints to me is Miike’s “Imprint,” but that’s likely because Miike was so used to working within those boundaries anyway.
It is. Basically, It's a story about a film that destroys the mind of anyone who watches it, similar to the 'King in Yellow' book. It's not about curses or magic, but rather something so indescribable and beyond human comprehension that simply experiencing it causes people to lose something in the process.
It was really good, sort of meta in that it's about a film that's almost impossible to watch, and I had a hell of a time finding a way to watch this, haha. Ended up using Tubi which was a goddamned slog with all the commercials, and at exactly the wrong moments. Would love to watch it again without the breaks.
