Well, it's the new pop shell. Still based on GNOME. Not to minimize their work, which is actually amazing! I used to love pop shell. But I always come back to KDE... Anyway, just adding the fact in case anyone else was wondering what was all the fuss about, like I did.
No, it is not based on Gnome. It is a full DE environment written in rust.
It does mirror gnome design but yeah it is deff standalone DE
