My home office gets up to 85° at minimum during the hot summer days. Having a tech come in and fix my entire HVAC setup is too rich for my blood. HOA won't allow window units... Finally caved and got the more expensive "portable" ac system that sit on the floor and have tubes that go out the window.
Room can get down to 73° during those same hot days and I am so happy with it.
Not who you replied to but I have a Whynter I'm pretty happy with. Low maintenance, reliable for the few years I've had it so far, and works reasonably well in my one bedroom apartment. The inlet and outlet hoses are a bitch to clean but other than that it's been great.
I grabbed mine while I was in Costco, so while I'm not completely positive I am like 97% sure this was the one I got!
I do like it! I was worried about having to "drain" it often like some of the comments suggest. But I only use "cool" mode and haven't had to drain it once yet. Plus I figured Costco has a good return policy in case it doesn't work out. I'm glad I liked it though, because on reflection repackaging that up would've been awful lol
