I work at a high school in a rich area in Australia. One night someone broke into a handful of lockers, no idea what they would have been hoping to find and to my knowledge none of the kids reported anything missing. Basically no harm done, and no damage to the crappy plastic lockers. The police sent a forensics team to check everything out.
A couple of months ago I got a new car and on the very first night it got broken into for an old pair of sunnies worth maybe a dollar on their best day. I had to pay for repairs and waste a week of my time getting it sorted out, during which time I had to borrow my sister's car for work. Measurable time and money wasted on my part, plus now I'm paranoid about parking at my own home, the cops barely bothered to take the time to take my report over the phone. I get that there's nothing they could really do about it anyway, but it still feels pretty shitty that literally nobody except me even pretends to care when actual crimes have been committed against me.
Where I live, if no one is injured or anything, car break ins, car thefts, stuff like that - police just tell you to fill out an online form and you’ll get your police report in a few days. They will not show up.
One of them has been taking shots at becoming PM a couple times, and couldn't even get that done. He's now resorted to starting (culture) wars instead.
