Hunting helps keep the deer population healthy.
Where I live, their natural predator was hunted to extinction during the coloniial days. Humans are the main source of population control for them here.

Yep. If we don’t control the deer population they overgraze which causes ecosystem collapse.
Best course of action would be to reintroduce predators but until then hunting is necessary.

It's been proposed, and shot down multiple times. Nobody seems to want wolves in their backyard.

Nope.
Hunting is ineffective because state wildlife management agencies intentionally keep the deer population high, for hunters. Contraception is far superior in controlling population.
Stop trying to justify the fact that you just enjoy killing something that doesn't fight back.

First, wrong region. I'm not in an urban region of Canada, I'm in a rural part of a red state.
2nd, the expense is negligible. We already have the equipment necessary for harvesting deer, and the skill to field strip the useful meat and preserve it.
As far as time, I can leave out on a hunting trip Saturday morning, return Sunday evening, and be at work Monday morning.
