Argentina's president says he has banned gender-affirming care for people under age 18. A presidential spokesperson said Wednesday the government was repealing a 2012 gender identity law provision allowing such practices with parental or guardian consent.

The announcement comes days after a massive mobilization of the LGBTQ+ collective in repudiation of President Javier Milei’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, during which he slammed “wokeism,” feminism and referred to homosexuals as “pedophiles.”

Just gonna force people to go through puberty before they can get help, fucked up
- Puberty blockers aren’t a permanent change. Puberty is.

  Bone density problems and weight gain can be side effects. Can also impact fertility. That said, going through puberty with gender dysmorphia seems like some body horror, and suicide is also not good for fertility.

  Suicidality is associated with barriers to gender affirming care, gender based victimisation and institutionalised cissexism. Interventions to increase social inclusion, reduce transphobia and enable timely access to gender affirming care, particularly surgical interventions, are potential areas of intervention.

  That's what my parents told me when I said I was likely to kill myself without hormones. Needless to say, I got hormones and I am still here, but I will never get back the time I lost and I will never have the childhood socialization that I missed. I will never see my parents the same.
  It haunts me a lot that I couldn't have started at 15 because my parents wanted me to be "normal" and for them to not have hard conversations. This is also the reason they didn't want me on anti-depressants even though I was massively depressed.
  All this to say that maybe you should listen to doctors and trans people about why these things are necessary. Puberty blockers aren't even permanent.
