I would say it's pretty common but not normal.
Also, it's not common in every social circle.-
I would always drink whenever I hang out with my kids. Sometimes I would bring them to the bar with me and I would let them take a sip of my whiskey.

Sadly my son doesn't speak to me anymore. I kicked him out of the house in 2016. I found out he voted for Trump and that's why I kicked him out.
