  • Deus Ex: Revision - Free Mod Suite Available on Steam!
store.steampowered.com Deus Ex: Revision on Steam

Deus Ex: Revision is a community-made overhaul of the 2000 classic. It features new environments, music, world-building detail, and bundles in some of the best modifications the fanbase has made, including Direct3D 9 rendering, high-res textures, high-detail models, and alt gameplay modes.

    Deus Ex: Revision on Steam

I thought I would call attention to "Deus Ex: Revision"; a well-tailored, free mod suite available on Steam.

I used it about a year ago and it was a great way to re-experience the classic first game on modern PC hardware with tons of optional tweaks and graphics upgrades to take advantage of.

    > New PB for Ultimate Run Single Segment. It technically isn't submissible for WR since the game minimized to desktop mid-run, knocking out the game capture, which led to me having to close the game and reopen it. I still had my quicksave and was able to continue the run with the timer intact. Also, the Helios infolink that gives the icarus/panopticon login at the end of Area51 glitched out and didn't play, so I technically never got those credentials. Either way, I now have new and better splits that were made on an otherwise pretty clean (and very fun) run that I can now run against. Next goal is sub 2:15:00.

Well, it's WR in my heart. For the record, here's the official WR (2:24:04, also by PancakeTaicho): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/202350259?t=0h0m1s

Anyways, amazing run and commentary while doing this incredibly tightly choreographed run. If you're a fan of GDQ-style commentary then you'll love this.

Here are the insane rules for the Ultimate Run:

    • Realistic Difficulty
    • Glitchless / Exploitless
    • No augmentations / weapons / inventory / consumable items.
    • No use of skill points, money, or bio-electrical energy.
    • Doors and security terminals can be used freely, although all used door codes and logins have to be acquired legitimately in-game.
    • Ultimate Run The Second adds one more rule: No use of medbots.
    • Any saves loaded during the run must have been made during the run.
    • A run has to be done in one recording continuous - loading save files is allowed, but the timer can no be reset to a previous state.

    > Surreal Engine is an ongoing project to reimplement UE1, mainly focused on Unreal Tournament v436 and Unreal Gold v226 at the moment. > > This one has been discussed in the other linux_gaming community before, more than two years ago. Since then there were numerous improvements: > * It can now run UT99 maps and Unreal Gold botmatch maps (whereas it was limited to only UT before), and boot up onto the intro flyby of Deus Ex. > * Colission handling is much better (but not perfect yet). > * Can utilize SDL2 on Linux for windowing and native Wayland support (previously it'd use pure X11, and actually still does if you don't have SDL2 installed). > * The menus mostly work now. > * Initial works for the AI (they will move around sometimes, and retaliate if attacked). > * Game detection system based on the SHA1 sum of the game executable. This allows us to detect many versions of UT and U1/UGold, as well as Deus Ex, Klingon Honor Guard, NERF Arena Blast, and more! > * A launcher has been added to select the game you want to play on startup. > And lots of other improvements! > > There is still a lot of work to do to implement everything though, and contributions are always welcome!

    Major Changes

    • Augmented Enemies thanks to Silverstrings:
      • For increased challenge, rare enemies with special abilities. See the Wiki for more details
      • (These screenshots were taken using the help of Serious Sam mode, and without helmets so you can see them better. The tough augs can't get helmets because they don't need them.)

    !!!

    !

    • Walton Ware mode: a game mode focused on quickly doing bingos and New Game+

      • Each round can be beaten in around 10 minutes or even less!
      • In order to make Walton Ware possible, we added these new options which it enables by default (you can also enable these individually on the Advanced page):
        • Random starting map
        • Bingo win at 1 line
        • Bingo Scale of 0% so all bingo goals are reduced to their lowest amount
        • Bingo Duration of 1 mission so it only selects events that can be done right away
        • 5 free spaces on the bingo board
      • We're also now over 200 bingo events!
      • This is what a Walton Ware bingo board looks like
        • !
      • See the wiki for our full list of game modes.
    • New Speedrun mode: speedrun with fewer resets while still being able to enjoy higher difficulties.

      • Reduces randomization range for skill costs and strengths
      • Uses the same doors rules as Normal difficulty
      • Some tweaks to scoring to accommodate this such as doors rules having a bigger impact on your score
    • Crowd Control online and simulated together for the average streamer that doesn't have many viewers

    • Fixes to various mirrored maps, so make sure to tell the installer to download the new mirrored maps!

    • Steam Deck fix for health display after waking up from sleep.

    • Autofill passwords even in Zero Rando mode, great for Steam Deck players!

    • We now prevent using lockpicks/multitools on doors/keypads you have the key/code for, great for people who don't read!

    • New website Mods4Ever.com

    Minor Changes

    • Installer improvements, especially for Linux and Steam Deck
    • Enemy factions: added MiBs for MJ12, and Secret Service for Police
    • Fixed items being lost in M05 jail
    • Fixed Anna's dialog in M05 UNATCO
    • Fixed possible memory leaks
    • Slightly reduced plasma ammo

Randomizer for Deus Ex. Contribute to Die4Ever/deus-ex-randomizer development by creating an account on GitHub.

    Releases · Die4Ever/deus-ex-randomizer

We’ve been really busy this year so here’s a recap of the best additions since v2.0 was released a year ago.

New in v2.5 are Mirrored Maps!

    • Play through the game with a random mix of mirrored maps, which will keep you on your toes even more than the randomizer has before!

We now have an installer program!

    • Helps with getting the game running well on modern computers for you and also handling the mirrored maps download and installation.

    New game modes:

    • Zero Rando - great for first-time Deus Ex players! Disables all randomization features but keeps all the bug fixes, QoL improvements, and balance tweaks.

    • Randomizer Lite - Great for players who haven't played Deus Ex in a long time, or those who are intimidated by the full randomizer, or if you just want to keep the original mood of the game.

    • Serious Sam mode - same as the normal Randomizer but with 10x as many enemies with difficulty tweaked to compensate.

    • All 3 of these new game modes can also be combined with other mods: Lay D Denton, GMDX, Revision, or Vanilla? Madder.

    Enemies Overhaul:

    • Randomly spawned enemies can now get randomly generated patrol routes.

    • New enemies with slightly different stats and appearances, see the wiki.

    • Randomly spawned enemies now appear as the same faction as the enemies near them. (No more Thugs with MJ12 Troopers.)

    • Enemies now have a random chance to have a helmet added or removed, and an additional chance for them to get a visor. A helmet slightly reduces damage, while a visor makes them resistant to pepper spray and gas grenades.

We're now at 56 goals with randomized locations, with 228 locations for those goals.

We're up to 177 bingo events for our built-in bingo tracker

    • And we also have an external Bingo Display program so you can keep your bingo board visible on your 2nd monitor! https://i.imgur.com/niBVyMi.png

    Accessibility improvements:

    • New spoiler buttons on the Goals screen in case you get lost:

    • Show Spoilers: shows where goals are

    • Show Nanokeys and Show Datacubes: similarly highlights the locations so you can see them through walls

    • Goal Locations: tells you the possible locations for goals without spoilers or cheating

    • Entrance Locations: Provides a list of all the possible entrances in your current map (for Entrance Rando only)

    • Entrance Spoilers: Provides a list of all the entrances in your current map as well as where they lead (for Entrance Rando only)

    • Improved Training mission

    Reduced pixel hunting

    • Datacubes/nanokeys/medbots/repairbots now glow

    • Crates that become emptied out now turn into cardboard boxes so you know from a distance

    • Improved visibility for some goals like a new in-game map of the ship and emails referencing the locations of goals.

    • Training mission improvements including explanation of some of Randomizer's features

    • Map teleporters are now visible and show text of where they will take you, especially useful if you're playing Entrance Randomizer mode or with Mirrored Maps enabled

    Music Overhaul

    • Random song chosen for each area

    • Ability to add music files from Unreal and Unreal Tournament (someone in our Discord also added in music from Red Sun with some easy config file editing!)

    • Continuous music which keeps the music playing smoothly even if you die similar to Super Meat Boy

Support for the mod Vanilla? Madder. v1.75

    • This mod adds tons of new mechanics and I think when you combine it with Randomizer you get the most in-depth Deus Ex experience possible! We've been working together so when they released their update on April 10th we were ready with support on the same day!

Choose what map to start the game

    • If you want to start in Hong Kong or Paris, for example. You’ll start with an appropriate amount of skill points, augs, and equipment. Likewise, the bingo board will be intelligently built and scaled to match your position in the game.

    Other Improvements

    • We've improved physics with enemies receiving knockback from high damage, and improved physics on gibs.

    • We've recently added a leaderboard in-game! Make sure you enable Online Features because it's disabled by default. Also check out our Mastodon bot (Twitter started banning bots, Mastodon is like an open source and community-run version of Twitter) https://botsin.space/@DXRandoActivity

    • Left clicking to use items even if you don't have inventory space for them, such as medkits, armor, and food

    • Tweaked some numbers to make the rates of enemy types, weapons, and items a bit more varied from run to run.

If you haven’t seen Deus Ex Randomizer before, here’s the trailer from v2.0 to give you a taste of the features already included:

  • Deus Ex and the federated net

One of the things that Deus Ex captured really well was the pseudonymous federated internet; interactions between random strings on different networks that could go on and on without either party learning who they were speaking to. Alex Jacobson had no idea that the Oracle he was receiving messages from was actually a self aware AI on the net.

  • Four lost Deus Ex mods, now found.

    1. Invisible War Revised (Original post by Defaultplayer001)

    Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/lkxpd3/fan_reimagining_of_deus_ex_invisible_war/

"IWR is a re-imagining of Deus Ex Invisible War. You play as the occasionally psychotic amnesiac Alex Denton as he struggles through the vast conspiracies he encounters during his dangerous career as a... delivery boy." -Best description I could come up with when pressed.

This is a mod I'm really excited is seeing the light of day, albeit in this incomplete "demo" form.

If you've browsed the Deus Ex ModDB list you may have heard of this mod before.

Announced in 2011, the last that was heard from it was a trailer being uploaded in 2013.

With a relatively large number of screenshots uploaded, and the concepts of both de-making and re-imagining Invisible War being both generally beloved by the community; it tantalized the imagination of a number of users and was often - for unreleased mods at least - talked about among those who knew of it.

    Myself included.

The particular mystery of this mod and it's creator were one me and Xen, my partner on the /r/DXArchive project often talked about.

I did do my best to reach out and see if the creator had any files they'd be willing to share with the archive, as I often do.

Unfortunately it soon became apparent that the creator had passed.

We did our best to archive what we could surrounding the project, but then moved on other projects, though he still came up in our conversations.

People often say that nothing uploaded on the internet will ever go away, people who archive data know this unfortunately isn't true.

    However miracles do happen!

One user among the very few users who downloaded a in-progress build from the creator kept it!

Not only that, they are actually a prominent member of the community!

It was under our noses the whole time!

Thankfully another user, Poke, had done research and found the now relatively ancient forum thread where the creator posted about it: http://www.offtopicproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=11429&p=101560&hilit=invisible+war+revised#p101560

They then put 2 and 2 together and noticed the one user. Veronika, who got it working was still active today!

After simply asking her about it this long lost mod was re-discovered.

However the mod was packaged in an unplayable state, and even when repackaged there were a large number of issues, including notably becoming completely unplayable near the end.

So over the past 2 weeks Poke and I have been fixing up the mod, him working on the maps and me the conversations.

It's been a lot of work, but we've finally gotten it in a state we feel is ready for general release. (Though it's far from perfect!)

Also, the soundtrack was full of pop songs.

Which I loved, but it was pretty obvious not everyone would love them.

Poke graciously spared your ears and switched out the tracks with ones from Invisible War.

Even I have to admit they fit a lot better. (Though I also still made a patch with the original songs!)

We hope you enjoy the mod, though we know it might not be to everyone's taste.

    2. DXVetery

    Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/ola8xq/dxvetery_a_short_yet_unique_deus_ex_mod_has_been/

DXVetery , while not as grand as our previous find, Invisible War Revised, was recently found!

Now this was never truly lost, in the saying that it was never properly released, it's just that the installer on the Moddb page was not a true installer at all! It instead connected to a now non-existent server to then download the files.

    Well, how was this found?

I was scrolling through the files tab on Moddb, looking for a Deus Ex mod to try out, when I came across DXVetery. The installer didn't work, so I asked around in the Deus Ex Community HQ Discord Server if anyone had it. And Lo and Behold, /u/defaultplayer001

still had it on their computer!

The mod was fully intact, though only I had problems with the exe.

The only thing I did change was fixing the very weird audio leveling going on with the intro song.

    So what's the mod about?

It's a sequel to the Helios Ending. The uniqueness of the mod comes from two things. A "God Implant" where you can code your own augmentations with LUA and a dynamic soundtrack that can detect certain actions, such as lockpicking. Oh! And you can tame Greasels!!

The LUA augmentation I think is very groundbreaking! There's a video on the Moddb page that teaches you how to use it and everything. Hell, this could be used for programming classes!

Anyways, here's the files and the Moddb page. Oh wait! There's some dev docs in the Help folder (which were taken from the now defunct website), along with a Readme if the game doesn't launch correctly.

Just put the DXVetery folder in you're DeusEx folder and you're ready to go!

    3. The Desolate Project

The Desolate Project was intended to be a fan sequel to the popular Nameless Mod. The project ended up being abandoned. A developer of the mod contacted me and sent me their beta copy. You will need TNM v1.04 installed. It's pretty broken and most maps won't work.

    https://archive.org/details/Deus-Ex-TDP

    4. Summer 101

Heh, this is one I'm working on, over 10 years since it was abandoned. I got this one from the same modder who gave me IWR. It was intended to be a Bully-like slice-of-life mod. I and a few others (but mostly me lol) have decided to complete this mod with our own original story and characters. It will be called Two Losers: A Summer 101 Story. I did take a ~1.5 year hiatus from the project to work on my youtube channel, but the project is back online.

The download to the original summer 101 is private rn, but if you dig hard in the DXHQ discord, you can find an upload. I however have uploaded a portion of the soundtrack.
